I don't think it will be quite as bad as Mei's freeze since it breaks on any damage at all and it knocks the person to the ground while they're stunned. Depending on what direction they fall at anything but point blank it's going to probably be hard to line up headshots on people lying flat on the ground and teammates are going to break the stun nearly instantly with spam 9/10 times.

MGO3 was as good as it could've been translating the core game's more action focused controls and mechanics into a multiplayer shooter. Sadly that doesn't mesh well with the stealth elements unless you really were a master of stealth in the main game.

well I tested and it seems that holding and spamming left click you get about the same spread. You do have a second or two of perfect accuracy regardless of hold or spam, but that is on a cooldown.

Except Torbjorns turret which has no wind up, instantly starts firing again at the next target in any direction and can attack in different directions faster than any player bar maybe a really good tracer and that damage aint nearly comparable.
They nerfed its damage but honestly they should have made it a forward cone with insane range or move at some speed between targets, not an instant shot north than a half second later shoot south.

Aiming with a controller is shit. You always rotate at the same speed and the fastest you can spin is still too slow to track people or examine your surroundings accurately but increase that speed and you can't aim at all.
Technically this could be solved with a very high turn speed and players not completely tilting the stick, just nudge it a bit for regular turns.

However, it's still always inferior to mouse&keyboard, ence why many games either have heavy aim-assist (like CoD) or some lock-on system.

There was once a competition between Halo players from PC and consoles. Complete noobs from PC and pros from the consoles, try and guess who won. I'll give you a clue: there's no cross server at all between platforms for that game because of this.

Hanzo's hitboxes are no longer the size of the fucking Titanic.

Widowmaker's traps now deal 25% more damage, considering that theyre bright fucking blue and offer no secondary bonus beyond damage unlike Junkrat's.

Junkrat's basic attacks now deal 33% of their current damage, considering that they are guaranteed to hit something if you can just manage to throw them in the same time zone as your opponents. In addition, the radius and damage of RIP-Tire have both been reduced by 50%. However, it now applies a 10 meter knockback to affected targets. Junkrat is a disruption-based zoning hero, not an autowin Pharah. That's why he's on the "defense" list.

Torbjorn's "turret range" is now 25 yards, down from 40, so that it is no longer an unfunny meme. There's still no safe way to kill them if he puts them inside certain buildings.

Zenyatta's shield has been increased by 25, bringing his total health to 175. In addition, his orbs of harmony and discord now last for 4 seconds out of LoS, up from 3. He and his allies can also no longer be knocked back while under the effect of Transcendence, creating a reason to pick him over Lucio.

Mercy now receives 35% less ultimate power generation from healing and damage boosting.

I don't know what's more annoying to deal with, Genji or Mei. Both are just difficult to hit for some odd reason(Mei slowing your movespeed, which hampers your ability to aim at her, and Ganji's mobility and size in general).

Somehow I've gotten WORSE at hitting both characters.

It's not "the game is so not fun after a week" I'm worried about, it's a plasma cannon tier update or the hype dying down(see every recent MMO) within a few months causing player droughts and wasting the 40 dollars I'm more worried about. Also as previously mentioned I'm not a big fan of Blizzard especially with SC2 being one step above Command and Conquer 4 in my opinion.

I suppose I could wait a year or so on it and see if it goes on a sale if none of my concerns ever happen to the game

God damnit. Life as support is suffering. I´m pretty sure every player who doesn´t play support in this game suffers from some sort of mental defficiency. I have never seen such a shitty annoying team, and i climbed up from the lower thirties to almost sixty now.

It makes that ability more versatile. The enemy team can't just wait it out like Genji's reflect and then murder her, they gotta expend it first or flank her, with the tradeoff that she can't fire while using it.

It's a very smart idea, really. She actually does do the job a tank is supposed to do (eat damage, literally in this case) and force people to engage her while not causing damage.
This makes her Defense Matrix closer to Reinhart's Barrier or Winstons Shield than Genji's Reflect, cementing her place as a Tank.

The fact that her Ulti doesn't kill her anymore also means she's free to engage people while it's going off. She can drop it in a point and chase or bully people with her gun while it explodes, usually the ones that hide behind small obstacles. She either kills them or forces them in the open.

The amazing thing about the update is that it did not made her better at killing people but rather actually increase her defense capabilities and made her Ulti more usefull to deny points. It's pretty great.

Competitive is like a barrel of shit. I was doing so well as a Tracer one match that the enemy team started going Tracer because obviously it's the class and not just me, right?
Then my own team goes all Tracer. It turned into a 12v12 Tracer battle for the remaining rounds.
I was so disgusted that the victory 10 minutes later felt hollow as fuck.

It makes her Matrix more controllable and thus more usable. I wish that they made the self-induced slow while firing in her mech a gradual effect, rather than immediate.

What the fuck? Unless they have a Symetra there, they take so fucking long to get there the first point is basically always taken.
Only teams I've seen not capping it where absolutely terrible. No tank and no healer terrible. "let's chase that Symetra inside that microwave" terrible.

That's also one of the reasons I would prefer Guardian Angel to not have a target. If your teammates aren't giving you LOS to them, it's not gonna be used at all. You can be a pretty good Mercy but it doesn't show because the rest of the team doesn't cooperate.

But quite honestly, you should have just said "fuck it" and pick Genji. If you're gonna lose, might as well get some practice with the weeb.

Like I said, good strategy. Either deal with it or if that isn't possible the heroes need to be adjusted. Winston already was nerfed in beta specifically because double winston barriers were too hard to deal with.

Aside from SEVERELY limiting the possible strategy, a single hero limit also makes swapping extremely difficult, since you can't swap to something one of your teammates has until they swap off of it. Imagine trying to pick up the reinhardt or lucio slot, you have to play without one of those heroes for nearly a minute while the other person goes back and switches first.

On top of that there's instalock shitters who will permanently take up the genji or reaper or whathaveyou and be useless while your team needs that hero to get anything done. Not to mention what this does to people who main a hero and can't pick it and are therefor (even more) useless to the team, probably even ragequitting/afking.

the only thing i dont like about it is all the salt it will cause between teammates. that and i wont be able to switch to who i want when our *insert important character that a player is completely failing at* isnt doing their job.

Most of my experience with competitive FPS games has been limited to Doom, Quake/QTF and Tribes: Ascend. It looks like there's no skill-based movement, but it at least looks fast enough to not be dull as a compensation. Is it worth forking over sixty fucking buckaroos to Actiblizzard, or should I just stick to hoarding D.Va images? Sure wish there was a trial, but nope, gotta grab as many shekels as humanly possible.

Anything that makes it "easier to balance" almost inevitably makes the game less interesting, more homogenized.

In this case a perfectly mixed and balanced team is boring to fight against. There's no counterplay, very little variance. The teams just feel the same every time. Most cases 4/6 characters ARE the same.

It's only $40. The $60 version is paying for extra cosmetics.

I like Arena Shooters. Does it play similarly to classic arena shooters to be palatable, or is it a different beast altogether and I'm just misinterpreting what I'm seeing?

its nothing like an arena shooter. it combines elements of TF2 and ASSFAGGOTS like LoL and Dota

It's ALL matchmaking-based. You might want to stay out of competitive, but no matter what your skill level you can expect to be mached with similar players, at least once you've been through your requisite beginner curbstomps for the system to catch up. Expect your team to suck as bad as you do though.

There's a practice range to test heroes and a VS AI mode if you really lack confidence.

Lots of skill with some easy heroes. Keep in mind there are different kind of skills, move and shoot is only part of it. Teamwork and communication is important too.

There are characters in overwatch that require exactly 0 aim, hitting literally everything in front of them (winston has a cone, reinhardt melees almost a 180 degree arc). There are characters that, if you have godlike accuracy and attention to your movement and positioning you can be pretty much unstoppable, like genji or windowmaker.

All FPS. There are no non-player mobs (except VS ai mode, which is the same as normal but one team is bots). Last I checked assfaggots didn't have ultimates you built up by killing/damaging players either, that's more of a COD killstreak thing (not as bad though).

It rewards skill, but only up to a certain point. This is because there is a lot of emphasis on teamwork and team composition instead of individual skill. Don't get me wrong, being gud still helps you stand out, but if you're playing character X, you're likely to frequently get curbstomped by character Y if you don't have the appropriate backup and strategy, because they're simply designed to counter you. In that sense, you have to pick your battles carefully, as you can't easily, as you can in other FPSes, simply carry the shit out of your team with a single character if they suck. That fact tends to trigger the shit out of FPS autists, as they often want to carry, but I think it forces the gameplay to take on a more team-centric "for the greater good" mentality that's unique and interesting.

its hard for me to answer im not fantastic. it seems to depend on the character though, widowmaker is a snipers wet dream but pharah probably wont live up to your quake experience. a lot of them are also very reliant on team work. its a shame but characters like that tend to feel underpowered. for example for all the memes you see surrounding bastion and his godly chain gun hes kind of a joke character.
more than anything i think the map design is where a skill plateau comes in to play.
when people compare it to an assfaggots they do it for all the wrong reasons. the things that are comparable to assfaggots are the developing metagame and the cancer that comes with that as well as the absolutely god awful matchmaking that youll have to put up with unless you do private matches. no server browser.
ive never played quake team fortress, but i have played team fortress classic. people knock overwatch for the ultsim not super fond of them myself, its rare that a character has an ult that defines them, but the super powerful grenades get a free pass for some reason.
its going to feel a bit less like team fortress if that no duplicate heros thing goes live, for the worse i think, but it might sting less as the game develops and tons more heroes are added.
there is "quick match" which is the non competitive game mode where youre expected to learn characters in. theres also a nifty practice map with a variety of training dummies
personally, i got 40 hours in the open beta easily. but i also have friends to play it with which was the deciding factor for the purchase.

Based on your "level" which is really just your time played. They should get better with you, but always expect a retarded player to get mixed in. Bailing from matches too often hurts your XP and, more importantly, seems to knock you down to lower level matches. Some heros are easier than others. I shit on him, but a good genji can be a horror to deal with, while a bad one is almost relaxing because it's like a -1 to their team. As always it's ideal to git gud.

There's no ASSFAGGOTS in there. That's just shitposting in the threads. Plays like TF2's Payload(Escort a thing to a point or stop them from escorting it) and Control Point(Guard a point or points against the opponents or defend the point against opponents) modes.

As your level goes up, it slowly goes from one to the other. You'll get teammates that want to win and know how things work as you get a higher level, but starting out if you are already good with FPS you'll do fine.

There's a training mode, and a "your team vs bots" mode. Both are good for learning new characters or trying stupid ideas out. Also, while I haven't tried it yet, setting up custom games can help learn maps and all the neat trick paths.

Can somebody explain armor to me? I know it reduces damage by half (up to 10 points, after which it just cuts 5 points off), but how much of that damage does the armor actually take? I do 70 damage to a dude with 100 armor. Does that just do 5 damage to his armor and 65 to him? Or does it do 65 damage, but all to his armor? Nobody can seem to get this straight.

armor is just fancy hit points. you did 65 damage to his armor.
heres another fun thing about armor. if you have shields on top of the armor thanks to torbjorns armor pack, or symmetras lame ass shields then the armor bonus applies to that shield before the armor is even scratched.

Double Zarya is better imo. Takes some coordination, but really fun to pull off right. I also like Zarya+Winston. Winston's a more aggressive tank so that shield is almost guaranteed to give you 50 charge AND probably keep the winston alive long enough to leap out.

Just don't play Zarya as the only tank. That is hell.

The idea of Armor is to count rapidfire with loads of low damage projectiles. Reaper's shotguns? Armor applies to all pellets, giving you a very large amount of damage reduced. Same for Tracer and Soldier to some extent. However, Widowmaker's shot is a single bullet with high damage, shaving off 5 points from 300 headshot damage doesn't really save your skin.

Basically, it's HP that denies the work of harassment.

Armor only applies once per shot as counted by ammo. it does NOT count per pellet.

also it caps at 50% reduction, and it works through shields as long as you have even 1 point of armor

You're right I just tested and armor DOES reduce shotgun weapons by half. Tested with reaper and DVA vs reinhardt, both did half damage to his armor (12 for DVa, 70 for reaper).

Once he was down to a sliver of armor the damage was inconsistent, meaning that the pellets are being calculated individually, some hitting pure health some hitting armor.

You might have been using outdated information since that was indeed how it worked somewhere during the beta.
I guessed they figured shotguns should be added to the list of guns that are "countered" with armor and fixed this.

It doesn't really leave many options left that counter armor though. Junkrat, Pharah, Hanzo, Widowmaker. That's pretty much it. Everyone else is reduced by AT LEAST 25% if not the full 50.

It's extremely effective against tracer, soldier, reaper, torbjorn, bastion, dva, roadhog, winston, zarya, symmetra, lucio, and mercy. Some of those still go over the "cap", but when you are talking about 25-30% damage reduction for their main methods of dealing damage it's still a lot. Genji is on the edge of that too,

Zarya does a lot of damage both with the grenades and the ray. 5 damage reduced is nothing to her.
Symetra's in the same boat with 120 DPS at full charge.

Well, I don't rightly know how Armor interacts with beam weapons like Mei, Symetra and Zarya or Winston.

Armor's effect is the same on those weapons, and greatly hinders their damage.

yeah, I went to check that again and beam weapons are basically rapid-fire pistols. They apply their effect multiple times per second and Armor reducing is applied to all of them.

Winston's Tesla Cannon fires 20 rounds per second with 3 damage each for 60 DPS. Applying that to armor means only 1,5 damage each time for a total of 30 DPS only, which means that in an ironic turn of events, Dva's the one doing the raping to the monkey.
