Splatoon Comic

Would you like an officially licensed Splatoon comic? I would. I mean, it doesn't seem like we're getting an anime, and thank whatever god is out there a western cartoon is unlikely, but why not a comic?
Huh? I mean, the world is cool in every sense, the characters are super fun, and it's colourful and nice.
Plus I'm biased because I love the games, but even if you don't like the games or you don't know about them, you gotta admit these are cool designs and characters. The lore is also fun, if unnecessary, and the more I think about it the more I realise this could be a nice idea.
But the writing is key. If you were to design a Splatoon comic, from what angle would you approach it?
Comedy, of course, but I mean the characters. Would the main character be the typical noob with talent that struggles to go pro?
Would it be a good idea to make it about the sport? Or it would be better to do it in a different way, with adventures outside the sport?

My bad, just checked and they're making an anime.
I hope it doesn't suck. Anyway, my question stands: what's the best angle to approach this thing?

The anime is based on a comic to begin with.

What's the comic about?

Not Holla Forums.

Make it adventures, not just splatting.

There's actually several fan comics, quasi webcomics, doujins, and manga type things for Splatoon, and that's exactly where I'd want to leave it. An official series would be beholden to rankings and popularity and worst of all.. editors. You may like the idea of a cute, funny, occasionally tense and actiony Splatoon comic, but some shitty weekly manga editor may insist that they add power levels, transformations, special techniques, and so on.

Now, assuming we could do this in a vacuum, I'd say to lockdown a couple things: Firstly, a singular consistent art and writing team for the entire thing. The worst fucking thing that can happen to a comic is for it to drastically change in quality between issues because they brought in some tumblr scumfuck who wants to fill it with virtue signalling and gaudy, repulsive Squirrel Girl-tier art.

Secondly, lock dock what makes Splatoon fun: Stylish and fun characters, vibrant setting with lots of possibilities, and fast-paced action. Focus on the characters and their day to day lives, occasionally breaking it up with fun action sequences that highlight interesting moments of play, and maybe occasionally stray into story territory where you can dip your toes in some lore and arcing plotlines.

It's just a semi-official voice dub of the Corocoro comic with limited animation, don't bother.

Thanks for ruining the joke with your shit filename, faggot.

Don't feed him.

Sounds good, but it wouldn't work in this current climate.

Webcomics. Pretty much the only viable route for anyone who wants to make comics, but doesn't want to suck the dick of the big 2 and have their career ruined by tying it to a sinking ship.

There isn't already a manga? Not even in Corocoro? I'm almost tempted to go and but Corocoro just to make sure, but it's about ¥750 and always comes with a fuckton of extra trading cards and books I have to get rid of.

If it ever gets finished or updates, webcomics are not a stable system for income and eventually the artist will get tired.

Don't feed him.

With patreon, digital storefronts, print on demand publishers and overnight t-shirt makers, it's actually far more lucrative than trying to break into the professional industry. Not to mention that the easier distribution model and constant supply of ad revenue from having your back issues always available for reading can help even further.

Fact of the matter is that a moderately talented artist with the work ethic to stick to an update schedule and maintain a social media presence can do better than a Marvel Comics employee ever would, and all without being beholden to corporate faggotry, crossover events, or annual retcon and reboot attempts.

I don't get this meme.

Its more profitable drawing porn than a webcomic, plus its 2017 if these things are so viable how come they haven't been realized yet?
Patreon is corrupt as hell, digital storefronts are near non-existent and are subject to intense piracy, print on demand publishers will always go for the lowest bidder, and T-shirts are nothing more than pocket change.

There's stuff like Lackadaisy and Ava's Demon, that are great and do the exact same thing you're talking about but they burn themselves too quickly because its mostly a one man team. Then you have fuckers like Dresden Codak, that constantly shits on his fans and holds updates hostage while pushing an overly barring agenda into is work, at the same time being a massive egotistical dick.

Have you looked at their patreons lately? Even though all 3 of them are deeply, deeply lazy and churn out maybe one page a month, they are raking in salaries better than I was making with a full time, 15/hr job. Some porn artists do better, but a lot do worse.

Sure, they burn themselves out, and in Diaz's case, he's just riding a wave of reddit and tumblr dicksucking because he spends most of his time whining about sexism and misogyny, but their pay to work ratio is astronomically better than what "pros" working for Marvel and DC make, and they don't have to worry about deadlines or print quality or delivering their work to a distributor who will then fuck up selling it to brick and mortar stores.

Nigger are you seriously complaining about Butler, whos got the best art in the game, getting too much money for it?

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with her art, just that she produces maybe a dozen or so pages in a year. People are free to give her as much money as they want, but that doesn't mean she's producing work at a reasonable pace.

They still have to pay taxes, so it’s not like they spend all the money upfront, unless they’re betting that the IRS won’t rape them.

Might also want to add that they also OWN the work they create unlike working for Marvel/DC/etc.

Now for some math (before tax)
New York current minimum wage: $9.70 per hour * 8 hour work day * 20 days (4 work weeks) = $1552 monthly
MC patron wage: $15.05 per hour
AD patron wage: $27.26 per hour
TB patron wage $33.26 per hour
Anyone got Jeph Jacques? I checked his page and can't see how much money he makes but in the past it was HUGE.

While Marvel probably isn't paying anyone NY minimal wage it does show that getting money from patron can sustain you on a 8 hour day/5 day work week/4 weeks/20 work days per month basis. Though in 2018 the NY minimum wage will go up to $15 so it will be interesting to see what Marvel will do when that happens

Don't forget to factor in health expenses, taxes that need to be done, and any other benefits given to employees by corporations like Disney not available to people solely on Patreon.

If they were smart, they'd move to a city in Texas or Oregon and save millions but nope, gotta stay in a meme city.

There's been discussion of this nature before.

Also, Splatoon is either getting, or already has, a yonkoma manga in CoroCoro.

Now that ARMS is getting a Graphic Novel from Dark Horse, I am even more evasive of this being an idea. I have little faith in Nintendo partnering with a comic creator that can create quality books.

Fuck I like Arms
How bad is darkhorse now compared to the big two, or image, or dynamite, or oni press, or archie, or valient, or blue wave, or avatar…
