I can count quite a few things that a monogamous, stable family can provide for the country. A non monogamous, poly amorous society has only detriments. One primarily being that males have no ties towards their families. Bringing it back into game theory, if a male doesn't know what is his child, of what necessity does he have to defend his genes in the event of war? What does it matter to him, if a child dies, when he doesn't know if its even his child? Especially when humans are generally a war like species, which requires a lot of investment by the male population. If I were a male and we were running out of food, and I didn't have much of a value in family, I would probably have less of a problem with murdering my child (since he's a unnecessary burden) than risking my life and invading a nation of equal power. And history agrees with me, very little people have EVER wanted to fight in the name of people they don't even know. Vietnam had massive protests simply because it didn't effect them. Iraq war too. People generally don't see a reason for risking their lives when their country gets nothing in return.
