A catfish and Iguana are test subjects for an illegal genetic laboratory. Subject to inhumane gene splicing, they are mutated into humanoid monsters with incredible powers. The laboratory manages to keep the two contained, hoping to replicate their success and make an army of mutants. However, one of the researchers (we'll call her Dr. Lamarck) is overcome by her own guilty conscience and decides to go public about the illegal activities going on, but while trying to escape, she is found out and the lab is put on lock down until they can make sure she never speaks again.
One of the scientists makes a mistake during the lock down of the test subjects, and Inguanoid and Whiskers (placeholder names of the mutants) manage to escape. While fighting off security and trying to escape, they save the scientist who wanted to come clean. The three decide to work together and escape in order to let the world know of the horrors that the lab is responsible for.
After a long battle, the three manage to escape and let the world know, with the government shutting down the laboratory. The three are taken into custody, the scientist being charged with her participation in the illegal activities, and the government debating what to do with the mutants.
However, it is soon revealed that before the lab had been shut down, several of its other experiments had escaped, and are running amok around the world. The intergovernmental body decides to form a task force to deal with the rouge mutants
Iguanoid, Whiskers, and Dr. Lamarck are recruited as the first member of this task force, as Dr. Lamarck can be trusted due to her willingness to put herself in danger to reveal the existence of the lab in the first place. She agrees to work with the task force, on the condition that Iguanoid and Whiskers be released and employed as her body guards. Together the three travel the world, seeking out the mutants, and capturing them.
Iguanoid and Whiskers learn more about the outside world, at first they are seen as monsters, but as they display their heroism and strength of character, many begin to warm up to them.
However, unbeknownst to our protagonists, a shadowy organization, which had been funding the laboratory, is not pleased that their investment did not pay off. They too seek to capture the escaped mutants, along with Iguanoid and Whiskers, make sure their investment pays off. They send out, a variety of agents, each with unique skills, to capture all the mutants and destroy any who get in their way.
