Well I'm not a old fag exactly but I started posting on 4chan in 2012 and was lurking there and on similar sites since around 2008 so I've seen my fair share of the internet since then. It's still pretty much the same it's just more regulated then back then which can lower the fun. And the community is definitely different although it still has the sekret klub feel to it. Alot of the real old fags that really made places like this fun have either moved on, offed themselves or just lurk and only post occasionally.

This kind of stuff was just momentary trolling, organized mayhem. And though I was never a art of it and was too busy having a 3D social life and being 12 or 13 I never had the opportunity.

But what was it like? It has always been evolving and changing - far be it from me to tell you there should be some Encyclopedia Drammatica article about its history. And what tit was like is what it was like to those select number of users who still happen to visit today, who were on long enough to measure the differences in changes and say, "Well, you had this, this never happened, people didn't care, etc. blah blah blah." There was a lot of variety, stories of crazy shit you couldnt imagine then that are common now like what happened to an user who shaved his ass, random images from all over the place because there were no other sites as good, humor of all sorts both morbid to cute. It was like socializing in a party of a hundred people who were all fucking cool but not kosher for normies so their popularity was based on personality instead of physcial popularity. The meme level was nacient but very strong. People would just do it natually because there were a ton of good storytellers. When people posted shit it was awesome to read.

Many of those anons are probably on other sites doing shit like 9gag and others that sucks because they are just focused on their brand of humor in their niche, or on plebbit because they like to tell their stories in that medium, or youtube, instagram, and etc. Anons that made 4chan great spread out and they lost the magic the more they spread out.
