I believe that there is still many anarchists or just leftists in general, but they just lost their enthusiasm and they don't organize that much, or maybe some of them have social anxiety which prevents them from meeting others and organizing.. Australia isn't reactionary, but it is conservative compared to the developed world (not even the left wing party supports gay marriage for example) and most of all everyone is pretty "lazy" and "apolitical".

Problem with Australia is that it went through a mining boom that allowed Australia to stay afloat then kind of has just costed along with fiddled monetary policy with nothing getting bad or good. Australia's political environment is one where everyone strives for absolute status quo mediocrity.

In that way, Australia is actually probably one of the most "conservative" countries on the planet because literally, the entire political spectrum is "never rock the boat, keep the status quo always". Last time we had a Government that for the first time in decades, tried to do anything, even though everything they did was fucking good, their Government collapsed within like 3 years due to record low approval ratings. Fiber to the Home network, Taxing mining companies, Fixing the rail network, Disability insurance scheme, ETS, education reform… way too much rocking the boat for your ordinary Aussie. Instead, the Tories got in during the 2013 election and literally tore apart and scrapped every single major policy of Labor at insane cost and were given a majority for it in the 2016 election.
