Get a mid-2000s toyota corolla and treat it as well as you can, change fluids yourself if you feel like you could do it to save extra money. It's really boring but if you find one that's been taken care of well it'll last for a decade or two more.

There were relatively few roads in the United States and most long-distance travel was done by train up until the 1950s. After WW2, Einsenhower, having seen how agile and efficient the German Autobahn had made the Nazi war machine, sought to make an American equivalent in the Interstate Highway System.

Which is the primary point. Cars on tarmac roads have never been the most efficient form of mass and/or long distance transit. This was chosen primarily for its military application.

Second, this fit in neatly with the then-booming American automobile industry, making cars more practical than they ever were in era previous, coupled nicely with the consumer culture that was growing in the 1950s. Chevrolet pushed the idea of cars as status symbols among the middle class, and soon they were a fixture in American culture.

Just remember that cars didn't have the high status they now enjoy until around the 50s. its not something written in stone.

Its an o-k bike that usually costs 300 but I got it for 40. Everything else at 40 was a hunk of shit, it has pretty aggressive frame geometry anyway cos its technically for light mountain use so its really not very much different at all
