Silent Hill takes place at a coal mine

In hindsight…. did the fall of silent hill started because of the first silent hill movie?

I'd argue that silent hill 2 ruined it because retards didn't get it and made silent hill into theory town

Silent hill 2 was the best one. You are stupid

the first movie was top shit, you uncultured swine.
That's like one of the few good game movies.
kys

First, that's debatable. Second, he's talking about the bad influence it caused, not the quality of the game itself.

SH2 is a meme game that despite being great ended up ruining the series with the, "the town is your personal psychiatrist and EVERYTHING must have symbolism", despite 1, 3 and 4 being straight up horror games.
The funniest part are the retards retroactively pushing that shit on SH1 and in 3 and 4 where it doesn't belong, the most hilarious being the silent hill wiki page and the trivia section that is 100% asspulls and fanmade headcannons.
For fucks sake, it's just a gorilla man monster, fuck off and kill yourselves, you brain dead hipsters.

Yeah, no.

2 was built from the main character and above, 1 3 and 4 the other way around. Please tell me off the deep symbolism revolving around generic dad looking for his daughter in a nightmarish world, or what is the deeper meaning behind fat tumor monster characters in SH3 or the monkeys with lead pipes in SH4.

...

It's illegal to be this stupid.

Stay triggered, you know i am right.

Opinion discarded, buried and ignored.

It's not even the best SH game.

I've enjoyed most Silent Hill games and I've played most of them. The town's backstory and status as the real antagonist is often missed by the people who complain about the series. I tend to think about the places in the games rather than the game's story or characters, which are going through a translation and localization coming to the west.

Is the first movie actually worth watching? I've been worried especially after eventually having one of my favorite movies ruined by Terminator Genesis

When you say "most Silent Hill games"…

It's ok as far as Video Game movies go.

Silent Hill is more like a place where your worst nightmares will come true.

I mean it's a good movie but some things don't makes sense if you base it on what your knowledge from the games are. Like for example the Red Pyramid is running around being Michael Myers.

Not exactly with the movie but yeah.

There was symbolism in all games BUT it was not in the same manner as SH2, stuff on SH1 was indeed from Alessa's mind, but not because some kind of sexual subtext, it was just fear and memories, in SH3 there is the whole rape, sickness and pregnancy allegories but they are once again not from Heather's, in SH4 there is a lot of stuff but is also from Walter's, hell, Walter hates women for example, the problem is how these people really think SH is all about therapy and your inner demonz.

There was this SH1 plot summary on GameFAQs that basically boils down to "Harry is in SH because he never told Cheryl she was adopted" and stuff like that.

Nope

When I get reminded by Silent Hill fans that the game is actually about an evil pseudo satanic cult in a town on top of an indian burial ground I don't question why the series is dead.

So you didn't like the original games.

I can appreciate the artistry and the atmosphere around the games but I don't think the story, which gets brought up a lot, is really that good. I don't really care overall I just wanted to jab a bit but I immediately lost the motivation to continue.

Man At Arms go fucking ruined. Now it's mostly shitty buzzfeed-tier clickbait videos.

When will this meme die?

*got

So, if the game was about your inner demonz you would have cared for the story?

Right. Because other classic series have such brilliantly original premises.

The fuck are you talking about? That user is talking about the shitty hollywood adaptation of the game.

Could I provide an outside perspective?
Yes, Silent Hill became a meme series beginning with 2 because it resulted in a bunch of autistic faggots running around shouting about "It's the best game EVARZ" and how "The game has psychological meanings and symbols discussing James' sexual personality. You must be able to see it to otherwise you're retarded." Meanwhile, in reality, the story of 2 is about a guy have a moral struggle over the fact that he killed his dying wife. Yes, there is symbolism present throughout the original 4 games, but that symbolism is meant to design a HELL for the characters. The town is not a therapist, is it the Joker from Batman who intends to torture every single character it comes in contact by throwing every dirty thing it can toward the player with no remorse and just doing it for shits and giggles. It doesn't want anyone to live, it wants them to die, and it wants the characters to go through a song and dance that leads them to that death.

Actually, this makes me want to know something, how many "good" endings are there in the Silent Hill series (I mean in all of the games, not just the original 4)?

Are you talking about Downpour?

It's not that retards didn't understand, it's that every game after Silent Hill 2 tried to recreate the symbolism present in it and made it a core part of the series as a result. Now every enemy and Otherworld instance has to have characteristics based on a characters feelings or emotions, otherwise it's a bad Silent Hill game.

Tom Hewlitt please go

Wll, every western game that came after SH2, because the other two had their own stuff.

You mean every game after SH4, right?

SH1, 3, & 4 were about the cult and had nothing to do with a protagonist dealing with amnesia/guilt.

I remember there was always a dislike in the SH fandom, though i hate the term in its modern usage, over how the series attracted proto emo kids who were armchair psychologists where EVERYTHING was "a representation of the protagonists sexual frustration" and these fags overlooked everything that wasn't "but perhaps" shit but clear cut and in your face.

I would say the movie had a hand but really it just influenced Climaxes pitch for homecoming. The movie was its own fucked headcanon because the fruity french guy in charge on record went full lucas and said "and zo i wuz reeding ze script and zaid my god, zis is a story about matriarchy, witches and duppelgangas!" and its like a big budget version of those italian knock offs from the 70's where the crew didnt speak english and had to interpret through a cultural lense what they were ripping off and didnt get it quite right.

Nice looking movie, okay movie in a vaccuum but it didn't ruin silent hill, tom hullet being one of those kids that grew up to get control did.

I recognize those wrinkles

>Shitpost at my friend about how "the themes of the movie were clearly about the mother/daughter role"

Silent Hill 2's ending thing is neat, but it basically means I've only ever seen the best ending because of how I play, which is more about being an optimal player than taking care of myself.

hahaha, i still can't believe people as stupid as you are able to get on the internet in the first place

I don't know about silent hill games beyond what people say about silent hill 2 but here is my pitch

I think if they ever brought Silent Hill back they just need to do something beyond retreads. Like make a game where its about a character who lives there instead of rolling into town.
The biggest question Team Silent kept being asked was "if its a literal nightmare and not an otherworld where did the townsfolk go?"

We know most just left because the former boomtown resort was dying off and the cult was peddling White Claudia as drug dealers to keep businesses alive. Most left but some stayed.

Just think about the film version of 30 days of night. Most died instantly but some didnt. Imagine the innocent townsfolk of silent hill. You are some girl who went away to college and comes home but shit seems off. The old galespie house is still a ruin and not pulled down, more empty homes and your family all looks tired and scared.

You bleed in the horror and show the effects of the cults work instead of just 'fuck i dunno, therapy?' or something like that.

We know the events of 1 were not in some pocket universe so what happened in town at the time.
I realise this is basically Silent Hill Outbreak but whatevs.

By the time SH1 rolls barely anyone is there, people left, some died and probably only the cultists are left there stalking Harry from the shadows.

Christoph Gans can create good atmospheric, ambient, and taboo themed movies, but in-hindsight, he should have followed what the devs did for between Silent Hill 1 and 2. Make their own fucking story that is self-contained, that movie's dialogue and writing was awkward and shit.

I was going to suggest that the protagonist was part of the cult but I have literally never heard about the cult stuff before this thread because I only know about what people say about SH2 so I didn't feel confident suggesting that.
I assuming it was a cult that was never really mentioned but it sounds like it was a pretty present plot point, so

Didn't Homecoming do that (Except the guy was from the town across the lake)?

I wouldn't know I have never played a silent hill game in my life

Man you want to know some real shit?
I actually know one of the fucking writers of this game
A year or two before it came out i ran into Patrick Doody at a media event for people working in film at a low level. I was working on a horror webseries for a company and he was making a supernatural webisode spin off so we got talking.
Something lead to games and i mentioned how i loved silent hill.
He went on to tell me how Konami wanted a saw/hostel knock off but he was going in next week to tell them he wanted something focussed more on mystery and puzzle solving.
Didnt hear from him again till long after the downcoming released, i played 'silent hill V' on release and sure enough it lifts entire cutscenes from saw and hostel.

Do tell user, any other juicy details?

As far as i know he never touched videogames again. Working for Konami: not even once.

Also unrelated but we both knew a guy that made a zombie movie, starring himself of course, and spent $130,000 printing copies that all read on the cover "THE WORLD AS WE KNOW IT IS COMING TO AN" and i still look at the copy he gave me and laugh every time.

pics or it didn't happen

I wish i had my copy. He fixed it later but fuck what a waste of money on a fucking typo error

The movie nailed the look and the atmosphere even the camera at times especially in the beginning but the writing was just abject garbage. It's really bad. Literally "alright heres what the movie was about it was all a test BAZOOER" at the very end.

user, I found your friends movie.

...

...

Also you think thats bad?
I WENT TO UNIVERSITY WITH A GUY WHO MADE AN UNDERTAKER FAN FILM

It became a 'so bad its good' legend at school because of the fat guy that played paul bearer who actually went on to become a bit character actor.

The series really did go to shit. I don't really harbor any ill will to any of the development teams themselves I'm sure they did the best with what the had to work with. Besides Hijinx. What they did to two of the best games in the series was horrible.

I stopped paying attention to the community sometime around "if you don't like Homecoming you are racist".

wut?

SH4 was the best one, get on my level scrubs

Walter Sullivan pls go and stay go.

There's only one black guy in that game and every single character talked too much and every VA was some generic voice. If I recall correctly, the argument of those turd shill sites was "If you don't like and buy this game, we won't get any more Silent Hill games!" or "You aren't a true fan!" Where the fuck did racism get into this equation?

because americans made it.
bare in mind this was a time when microsoft and ea paid of journos to push a very anti japan sentiment in normalfag media to get a good 'panic year' on asia as they started to overtake the west again.

Did you notice all the woman hate imagery on SH4? I would have expected a feminazi to cling on that game among others.

The story is fantastic. "You are in a cursed/haunted/whatever town and you need to find your sister. Now go play the videogame". I don't know why people want videogames to have a convoluted novel-length story. I'm perfectly content with something like Zelda or Banjo Kazooie since the story/adventure comes in the form of the gameplay.

It can help to spice up the gameplay when used right.

THANK
YOU

I don't understand.

Because liking the original games makes you a weaboo.

I kind of like the games that take place outside of the cult storyline. So long as they don't fuck with the story of the town and focus on a character driven story.

Origins was also about the cult.

And people learned the hard way when franchises made by the nips are given to foreigners, goddamn shame what happened to Lost Planet 3, Front Mission Evolved, Dead Rising, and more. It isn't fucking racism when you make a shit game.

Origins and Homecoming, and despite that they screwed a lot.

First game had the cult story, which is very japanese but also very stupid. The city itself should be the ultimate enemy of Silent Hill, not some dudes in robes.

The town itself turned out that way thanks to the cult messing with the sacred land though.

Japs have the bad habit of over-explaining mystery, to the point it becomes mundane or scientific. Few explanations and loose casuality keep the imagination wondering.

In short, you like it better when your headcanon is easier to insert.

Yeah, 2 is the point where "You need a high IQ to understand Silent Hill" faggots latched onto the game.
Also that second image explains nicely the difference between "open world" games and REAL open world games

Not just Japs though, it's a modern trend present everywhere. Every modern franchise seems to have this autistic need to explain every last bit of lore, usually ruining the suspense in the process.

I hope you're underage, if you can't get that the appeal of mystery is precisely that it defies knowledge and understanding.

It's more normalfag than autistic. They want hard cash explanations, not uncertainties.

And, did anyone tell them that overexplaining shit is what killed horror movies (Well, that and the overusage of the "jump scare")?

Burn the coal, pay the toll, I guess?

Maisie is doing porn now?

re4 was the best one and it ruined resident evil

It's a perfect neet simulator, i kinda understand why Holla Forums hates it. It's too close to home.

No even fucking max Payne was better Thant that filthy shit that was SH

kys

...

You are correct.
