On release day, the "vanilla" version of a game comes out. Then, years later, rereleases and other "Editions" may come out with even more content than the original did.
What were some good rereleases out there, Holla Forums?

That's a funny way of saying "unfinished"
I agree with OP. The Skyrim rereleases are so amazing. I can't wait to play Link in Skyrim on the Switch.
Skyrim vr with a million graphical mods would be pretty mlg.
first of all, checked
second, "vanilla" games are purposely left unfinished so they can sell you the pieces of the pie later, then about a year or so after all of those pieces have been released the companies just bundle all the expansions and dlc into one package and make you pay the price of one game.
there are some exceptions to your statement where rereleases and X editions are actually worse than the vanilla game, State of Decay when they released their YOSE which supported 1080p was more graphically broken than vanilla whose version was then made unbuyable forcing you to buy a more broken game than before
Duke Nukem 20th anneversary edition, another rerelease of Duke but with no effort put into it. Only Duke's sounds and lines were re-recorded also added Duke saying Bazinga for no logical reason, every other sound was left alone. Gearbox went back to some older textures and replaced them with some bullshit about xenophobia. Gearbox also removed to purchase any and all all digitally released versions of Duke Nukem except the 20th anneversary edition.
Dark Souls 2 Scholar of the First Sin, it's not true to the vanilla layout of the game as they rearranged all enemy placements, also SOTFS multiplayer servers are separate from the vanilla DS2 servers so there's no crossplay and caused a divide in the playerbase.
Day of Defeat: Source had less content than goldsource DoD.
Unfortunately true. Whenever I buy older games these days, I usually just look for the version that has the most content within it. The vanilla version is almost always obsolete by comparison, making it hard for me to buy new games on launch.
That's why I made this thread. To look for the rereleases that (compared to its vanilla predecessor) added a substantial amount of content.
Fix your fucking formatting holy shit.
What's the difference between the special edition and the normal one? I honestly god skyrim ages ago, played it a little and then uninstalled it because it bored me. Even with sex mods it sucks.
UT3 got updated hard, but….
…UT3 was unfinished too when it got released back then. But it went from "basically unplayable" to a decent game. I think it got like 2GB of new content or something like that. So I guess in a way you could say that UT3 had a "re-release" with more content.
Whether the changes were any good or not is a debate for another time
I think the Deus Ex GOTY version has some minute differences compared to a fully patched vanilla release
They added shaders and the paid mod framework
At worst gold missions were tedious. It's also easy to just skip levels, but I never liked doing that. Except in T2X, eventually I just got fed up with that shitty FM.
I wouldn't know. I never played Skyrim before. I'm currently debating on whether to get the "special edition" or the "legendary edition". I hear that both have those 3 major add-ons that everyone keeps raving about (dawnguard, hearthfire, dragonborn).
CDProjekt Red really went out of their way to enhance the original Witcher with its re-release. This is when they were making PC only games and before they started chasing console dollars and shit. They redid entire character voice overs, added new quests, a whole bunch of bug fixes and shit, and some nice QoL tweaks (like the alchemy pouch). And they included physical goodies too, including an actual copy of the short story that the game revolves around.
Now CDPR have gone to shit and we await some new slav indie to deliver quality content without the bullshit.
...
You mean "towns" don't have populations of 6 people?
Playing this after the original release was like a completely different game, this is how enhanced editions should be, not shit with just extra bloom on top like Skyrim or the Neverwinter Nights bullshit beamdog is preparing.
I'm pretty sure they still do as having too many NPCs with more than one behavior package causes them to fuck up very often in gamebryo, and start chimping out. But I haven't played the Toddmastered Edition of Skyrim.
user, he was being coy.
he's playing the fool for amusement.
I don't know what they do, but I know that some of them are needed because some mods are based on it, e.g. use content from those mods. If I remember correctly dawnguard is just the vampire campaign. Not very fun or anything.
The only above mediocre expansion was Dragonborn, and that's only because of the ties it has to Morrowind and Bloodmoon.
Hearthfire is literally building a house using busywork MMO grinding.
It breaks compatibility with mods and engine extensions and water has a different texture in select parts of the game world.
thank you for explaining my joke, user. it's sad, but on 8ch, it needs to be done from time to time
How's Witcher 3? I seem to recall a lot of hype and then anons having gripes, but is it worth playing?
Batman vision makes some (almost all of them) quests feel like absolute chores. But it's alright.
Bethesda games sure ain't "good" releases.
Quite good. Make sure to install the Ghost mode mod.
Do NOT buy the Special Edition. As mentioned it breaks mod compatibility, but it's also a buggy piece of shit, its renderer despite being a newer version of DirectX is worse than the original renderer, and they attach a new DRM mod system to it, so that modders can charge you for their shit mods that you wouldn't pay for in a million years.
What's the ghost mod do?
Makes combat not so boring.
It's general overhaul mod and very well-made. Fixing bugs and little rebalance while not completely changing the game.
So special edition doesn't actually have new content of any kind?
Personally, I love it. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it. Its not perfect, the combat gets very stale in a 100 hour+ game, the leveling system is very underwhelming, the main quest should definitely end at the second act instead of carrying on. Witcher senses (Hold X to see quest vision) sucks, but the alternative would be hair pulling monotony of scouring the ground for slightly different shaded clues. Few bugs that keep breaking immersion, like NPCs walking through you during dialogue, general physics glitches. Oh and a mandatory fast travel system.
That said, the side quests and Witcher contracts are the stars of the game and the expansions are the best of that rolled into two big, great packages.
If you absolutely HAVE to (like you're that desperate for Vidya or porn), pirate the legendary edition. It has more mod support, the script extender, less obvious jewery from Bethesda, and the most working fan patches and shit.
As for the addons, they aren't spectacular and are best just used as texture packs for other mods (since some better mods take textures from the DLC). Dawnguard has a pretty meh story and gameplay that only really does anything if you choose to become a vampire lord (where if you take that choice right out the gate, the shitty story gets 10 times shittier) and only really fun when it comes to a couple of sidequests added that don't hold your hand. Hearthfire is LITERALLY just a bunch of shit to build your own house for the fags that complained about the mountains of gold the game gives you naturally and for the roleplayingfags, with nothing really meaty to sink your teeth into if you have no interest in that shit. Then there's Dragonborn, which adds a new area and is actually kinda alright I guess compared to the rest of the game.
Like I said, this game really isn't worth a lot of time take it from someone who spent autistically too much time with it because without mods, there's almost nothing to be enjoyed, even in the DLCs.
Why's everyone spoilering the pirate word now, that's the 5th time I've seen it today
This isnt cuckchan, just fyi
Duly noted. I guess I'll go for the legendary edition then.
Hello, newfag.
No
No, Spec Ed has no new content, it's the same as Legendary as far as content goes, it's just a new DirectX renderer and a DRM-based mod store.
Leave the internet, Todd.
We are tired of your shit.
IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT AGAIN, YOU FUCKED UP THE FIRST TIME AND PROBABLY FUCKED UP THE SECOND TIME TOO
Quests and combat suck.
I get it .. Todd meme, but all the same, Skyrim is really not the worst fucking purchase you could make. Consider the poor controls of Devil May Cry 3's port, the poor performance of Dark Souls (because they recreated every single bug .. intentionally or not), or the poor graphics of Final Fantasy games on Steam. Skyrim doesn't have poor graphics, controls, or performance. It just doesn't have much in the way of content, unless your idea of content is wandering the wilderness for 30 minutes at a time and defeating a randomly generated monster. Boring as fuck, but not the worst purchase you could make.
Stupidity on this level should be a crime. Skyrim Legendary Edition, for example, was a re-release in the sense that Morrowind GOTY is a rerelease. They took all the expansions, put them together into a bundle and sold it to ya. That's fucking it. And to boot, they discounted it and sell it on sale during sales.
Special Edition is a rerelease in the sense that they made a version that only runs on Windows 10 and uses the latest version of DirectX, and has the inclusion of the new mod system that they want to roll out in future TES games. They didn't rerelease it because they "fucked up," but because companies see this as time they could have spent making money, so they want money for their time spent. You want to spend 2 years of company time updating the game to be future proof? What the fuck for? What does the company benefit?
It's not like the Japanese haven't been seen doing the same thing, look at Scholar of the first Sin. Even FromSoft have done it. It's hard to justify spending company time with your primary developer team to update a game, so they justify it by making it a value for the company.
But it does have a nice soundtrack, even if it's just Russian folk music.
It has some of the best quests in RPGs.
Don't you know that pirating something on the internet is illegal?
Don't you know that being off by one is a surefire sign of faggotry even if you don't fuck up your related?
Fuck off back to >>>Holla Forums
...
But user, you're not credible enough to wipe your own ass.
But anons, I don't live in shithole Eurasia so why would I fucking care?
So you don't look like a moron? checked
If it's a Bulgarian, Polish, Serbian or Slav song .. I just don't really care, because it doesn't mean fuck all to me. They're all part of a dirty area of the world.
Educate yourself.
Nah. Also get on topic or go make a new thread.
Honestly, one containment thread for your cancer is more than enough.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe probably counts, right?
God dammit user
I seriously hate the GPS in every game shit. It's not fun.
