The necessary counter messages to "violence is acceptable against speech I don't like" already exists, it just doesn't have the reach needed to bring those numbers back down. It's going to take more high profile cases. People need to be caught doing despicable things that also aren't too extreme to feel irrelevant to today's youth. For example: throwing stuff, pepper spray, and even pushing/hitting could result in very strict punishment under the right circumstances. But the right victims and the right unequivocal evidence matters. The right assailant matters (leaders/representatives). Having documented motivation and affiliations (social media, etc) matters. When it happens, the necessary counter message will have a large reach again.

It's only been about a month since Police Departments/Mayors stopped completely stonewalling over Antifa enforcement, and you don't get nearly as much doublespeak, etc. Hopefully things are improving.

Eh, as bad as usual. Family-wise we're trying to come up with a solution what with being a family of art-type people (and thus which was always both kind of dysfunctional but also in theory has enough skill altogether that we should be able to form a studio) but since basically every adult in this group is stressing out from money, it becomes a loop of "too stressed and forced to do other stuff to manage to do the thing that might save us from being stressed and forced to do other stuff".

Still, in an immediate sense, this will help pay for the internet bills so my internet won't get cut, and I'm trying to get a webcomic done on the next few months to get a backlog of pages ready for December or January, and finally give that Patreon some justified use in my head.

Art jobs can pay relatively well, in my experience. Not as much as programmers but if you have a good portfolio and multiple art skills (2d, 3d, animation, etc) you can get paid decently. There's just so few vacancies, you get a ton of applicants for one job (half of which don't even seem to read the job specs and applied anyway), and the universities and colleges jump keep pumping out more hopefuls. Even when it comes down to a handful of the best applicants, you're still not guaranteed. Sometimes it comes down to who gives the best interview. Yes, even as an artist, you need to have great social skills.
My advice is to make friends with people.
Even if you get the job, there's no guarantee that, even if you're a permanent employee, the company can always go bust.
Anyway, art can pay, you just gotta be real good, real lucky, or both. It's a cutthroat job market.

The UK animation industry practically died back around '99. Most of what got made was ads, or toddler animations. It's gotten better since then.
And yeah, I've been told freelance is less stressful, but the lack of security when it comes to a paycheck is a downside.
