Am I alone in my gaming experiences where the "girly" girl characters are usually real girls?
I've played mmos for years, and the men in my guilds who play female characters almost always turn them into fucking starcraft marines or axe-wielding armored warrior queens, whereas the girls in my guilds almost always make them "pretty", with flowing dress and "transcendant robes of starlight", etc.

Yes, they're guildies I've spoken to. Multuiple guilds over the years, and the girls always wantr to be slender elves, while the guys are almost always orc warrior women with shoulderpads that weigh more than the elf.

In my experience females tend to play male characters, or if they do play female characters it's always the 'ugly' races - the majority of the women I know of from my time spent playing on Horde in my WoW days played female Tauren, Orcs, Undead or Trolls (in other words they basically avoided the one 'attractive' Horde race for some reason). I only ever came across one female Blood Elf that was actually a woman, while female Tauren actually seemed more likely to be played by women than men, oddly enough. Not sure how it is on the Alliance side since I stopped playing the game even remotely seriously by the time I bothered rolling Alliance characters.
The way the character looks doesn't matter usually.
It's all in the name. Guys playing female characters usually name them something silly, or overly edgy, while women name them shit like "ElaKitty", or similar shit that's trying to sound cute.

More or less. But I think OP was talking more about girl's tendency to dress female characters much more femininely than guys dress them. But there is nothing particularly odd about that. It seems perfectly natural to me.
MMO's aren't typically that kind of game though. You don't usually GET to pick what kind of clothes or armor you wear. If the game puts shoulder pads on all the high rank armor, shoulder pads is what you get. Maybe OP is confused and thinks that people playing Warrior classes are males and people playing Caster classes are females because casters get robes?
Modern MMOs have a LOT of purely cosmetic stuff. Many have features that allow you to reskin things to appear any way you want. It brings in extra sales from people who want to play dress up. I do not think the OP is confused at all.
You do bring up another valid point, though. Girls tend to play roles that are more supportive and require less leadership. Like healers or dps. They rarely play tanks, who are expected to lead the way in dungeons.
And I say, GOOD! We all know of several games where end game armor and weapons look like dogshit and you'd rather have a better looking appearance but don't want to drop several armor tiers. I'd pay $10 to do so in an MMO.

I'm talking more about how many F2P MMORPGs make a lot of their money from allowing players to use good armor for their armor score but to use whatever armor they want for their visual appearance. It's a practice I don't mind and would buy into, if there was any MMORPG I wanted to play right now.

And every armor slot can be replaced with a glamour of some other item. They also sell outfits in their shop. It's the best of all worlds, as far as their cosmetic options go.

I'm a straight guy who typically rolls a female character in fantasy settings. I like my characters to be at least as feminine as they are capable, images related. Not sure how that fits into your rubric, but the image in the OP seems to imply that guys make women who look and act like men or something, and I much prefer elves to orcs.
You know I don't think I ever thought, in all my life, that I need to have a character "act like a man" or "act like a woman". I've been playing RPGs for decades and shoehorning in gender to my character just isn't something that happens. It's not INTERESTING to me. Alignment, religion, class, personal motivations, backstories, skills, past choices – these things matter. Sex isn't even a part of the equation.
Apart from me exclusively playing female characters because they're cute anyways.
I generally roll female characters but make them adorable grandmas or wretched witches (first for healer/support, second for mage/dps). If a game doesn't let you be old I just play as a weird creepy bald dude.
I don't think it is really shoe horning it in or anything, but it just seems natural when you are playing as a cute character to have it do cute things from time to time. It also does have a bit of an effect in terms of crafting a back story or thinking about motivations, to some degree at least, but its certainly not a major mental occupation while playing. It just naturally arises.
The vidya waifu is just a projection of the anima, anyways, so it will naturally conform in some way to the natural internal ideals and shortfalls of the anima of the individual who is playing. Once you learn how to channel and externalize it, which comes naturally to the waifuist, it isn't something you really think about. It just happens. You know how the ideal woman would act and think, because you possess the model of the ideal in your own psyche and are merely projecting it, and if you are a little bit more thoughtful about it, you can also see the shortcomings of that ideal if actualized, which provides the character with natural faults. No single created waifu will be able to fully encompass all aspects of the anima, and the anima is ever-changing, so each character can embody different traits and be unique.
I hate it when games don't have a playable male character, or if the game is story based yet you are a female because you'll always end up at the mary sue ultra women that leftists love. Saying that, given the choice I always pick the girl because cute things are cute
I generally play male characters, but female characters generally have three or four times the amount of customization options as males. Plus, some games have lewd outfits that you can only put on characters that are party members or your main.

The fact is no one really likes playing as the ugly brutish woman. When women play MMOs they make their character what they wished they looked like. When men play as female characters they're doing it either because they secretly wish to be a pretty girl too or they just want to look at a cute girl rather than a guy for the entire game. No one in reality wants to play as an ugly woman. If a girl was fat and ugly in reality she might cry about how "everyone is beautiful" and "healthy at every size" but given the chance she would always choose to be the slim and beautiful girl in a videogame.
