nice dolphins

Alright. Who's ripping the audio? Let's see how badly we're disappointed.

mega.nz/#!B2wUgIgJ!3WO0UxLJ3Ah3H1yTH8U3CN-Dzn47vg_UHG4i05I1WdY
Found the "soundtrack."

I don't understand why they would remake a game that holds up just fine. Anyways, I used to love this series before the butchering, the brotherly relationship between Mario and Luigi always seemed pretty charming to me.

Someone check its not dolphin porn

I stopped caring after Bowser's Inside Story. I couldn't afford a 3DS at the time, but even then I just didn't care enough about dream team to complete, let alone superstar saga. Why can't they go to the trailer animation style, or even an inkblot/tezuka type deal where everything is super fucking cartoony.

Alright niggers, I got the music. What songs do you want to hear from it? I'm making WEBMS.

I ain't clicking that shit. I learnt my lesson not to trust anons.

Would have sounded better with a harpsicord added tbh.

Especially to add such a pointless gimmick and butchering character designs.

Wow. The music isn't that bad at all.

Except Star Fields Base. It sounds like shit, absolutely no bassey "OOMPH" the GBA one had. It's all mostly orchestral. Give me a sec, webms soon.

I've started replaying the series, currently going through Dream Team on Hard Mode. I fucking hate that they felt the need to include Starlow for some fucking reason and her defining character trait is annoying flying twat. Dreambert on the other hand makes a pretty neat companion since he's grateful for how you're helping him but also still a snobbish prince. Soundtrack is really good, and I'm honestly a bit disappointed that they blew the penultimate final bosses theme in the very first encounter for no reason other than real bad foreshadowing.

The cancer that ruins dream team is just the sheer number of tutorials they force you through, and for some of them even if you say no they still make you sit through an explanation. Even in hard mode where you can only unlock it through beating the game once and had to sit through them once already.
So I guess in the end I'd give the game a 7\10, good OST and level design but bogged down by a load of shit outside of the fights and the badge system really holding your hand.

Man… they made Popples theme sound so wimpy.

Oh fuck, they BROUGHT BACK the option to use the GBA music. Too bad they didn't do the same with the GBA graphics, or so I think.

There we go, it begins.

I'm a fag and can not play BCSTM files.

who gives a literal shit

Oh shit, no fucking way. They actually did something other Nintendo devs rarely do! They cleaned up the music, it's not using GBA hardware to play the music!!

Foobar + VGMSTREAM, there you go.
foobar2000.org/components/view/foo_input_vgmstream

Nobody, I'm only here for the music, and so far I'm at least happy with how good they treated the GBA renditions.

Of course, just because it's no longer using the GBA hardware doesn't mean it's NOT using the same samples it originally. It just sounds cleaner and less static-like is all.
Anyways, compare.

I'm liking the GBA original, the remaster strays too far from the feeling its predecessor had set up, even fan reduxes sound better, but hey, it's still nice music, just nothing I'd scream for.

It bothers me a bit that some tracks hit that feeling closer than others and shows that whoever remade it (If it's even Yoko herself) had that style lost in translation, but could have done better.
Good Examples
Teehee Valley
Beanbean Castle
Beanbean Town
Fawfuls Theme
Imminent Danger

In-Between
Oho Ocean
Chucklehuck Woods
Bowletta Phase 1
Main Battle theme (The Silly Toony Squash'n'Stretch feeling is kind of lost)
Underground

Shit tier.
Cackletta Final Battle
Star Fields
Boss Battle (What have they done to you!?)
Popple

I'm blaming the mixing, a lot of this shit sounds too fucking echoy. The EXACT same problem I had with Pokemon ORAS.

Bowser's Castle is a good example of how they should at least approach mixing, this track sounds wonderful and the instrumentation is placed in all the right places, kind of. It still definitely gives away the fact that's it's being done in that one Apple program I can't for the life of me name, which has been used by A Link Between Worlds, Pokemon and about 4-5 other big IPS.
Tracks are either too strong in the middle, or have some sort of panning issue which causes the mid-bass and some upper treble to sound anemic.
The regular battle theme has also had some samples from the Sound Canvas SC-88 Pro, which isn't a bad thing! It's better than what Pokemon did, ditching the majority of the original samples and instruments in favor of the newer hollow-sounding fucking instruments.

This at least has some center, but the issue of echo remains prominent for some tracks, not including webm related.
Really wish I had the time to get knuckle-deep into music so I could be more precise. I'm being lenient of it if I'm being honest, I know it's not what I want at all, but the GBA clean up makes me one happy bean.

I'm taking a break, I'm going into this too hard. I'll just make it an album and be done with it.

kill yourself

I'm already dead fam.
Don't listen to the Cackletta battle theme. It sounds like a .midi file being played with the default instruments, you'll save yourself the pain.

You're a cool guy user, thanks for all the uploads so far.

The original holds up perfect, having seen the remake, I can tell that I like the original's off-kilter sprite work better. Music sounds pretty nice, but the original is great too. The original has an overall really great, cohesive atmosphere that feels a bit edgier than traditional Mario. The only reason for me to be really against this game is knowing that people will play an inferior version instead of the better one I played, which is disappointing. Beyond that I don't see why you'd be angry about this remake in anyhow.

No problem, I just need a good cover art and the track names for the "Bowser's Minions" section, if I don't get them then I'll continue but it will take me a bit more time to get everything just right.

Reminder that this game is probably gonna get the Sticker Star treatment regarding NPCs and enemies.

you should see the nintendrones on YT defending this. Go to any GameXplain vid about this game to find it

So have they dropped 3d support or is the leak broken?

Disgusting

Why does the goofy sidekick minon get an serious orchestra-type thing as his theme song.

and why does the battle remix sound like cheap midi trash.

WAIT. THAT'S THE SAME SHITTY GUITAR SAMPLE FROM SONIC BATTLE. LMAOOOOOOOOOOO

Dropped

No 3D because Nintendo is lazy and/or they're trying to push the 2DS XL. But there's amiibo support!

Looks like Miyamoto made the developers his cumsluts again.

Jesus Christ the production values for this fucking thing are all over the place. It's almost like they didn't want to remake this game, but jewtendo has them by the balls.

least sonic battle can pull off a decent song with them.

Why does this bring me more pain than it should?

It does, I really feel like they said "Fuck it, they'll eat up ANYTHING anyways." and exported the media file "As Is", also, I don't think this specific song uses it. The Main theme and garage song is the one that uses it iirc. Still a good song.

Imagine super mario world gets remade but it's a New Super Mario Engine. It's like that. Nintendo is creatively bankrupt and have blind fanboys on a leash.

Add me to the LONG LIST of lost sales for this game. Add this abomination to the GROWING LIST of hundreds of thousands of sales of Mario RPGs lost due to MIYAMOTO being a fucking boring soulless Jap piece of shit. "Why have interesting designs? Standard toads for everything, no new characters, and every unique enemy needs to be remade to the bland SMB1 design from THIRTY FUCKING YEARS AGO.

FUCK YOU MIYAMOTO

Seeing how this and the Metroid remake came completely out of nowhere and that they haven't remade many of their 2D games, I STRONGLY feel that Nintendo is going to start doing a slew of GBA/SNES remakes. Expect them to release Mother 3 as a Phillips CDI-looking Switch game in the next 2 years, with treehouse doublethink and without the tranny paedo buttsex scene. Cap plz.

I just want my childhood to die in peace, already, remakes are getting too painful.

How do you fuck up Cackletta's battle theme that badly? The obvious choice should've been an accordion + organ or something similar sounding to match the original. I can't possibly understand what the fuck they were thinking or going for.

What are you talking about, they do remakes ALL THE TIME. Hell, the original version of this game came with a remake of a mario arcade game
I'm not sure whether to doubt it or agree with you

The new style looks more zoomed out. As in they made the characters small enough that you can't pick out details as easily.
It wouldn't look so bad if they brought the camera in a bit, made it less blurry and kept the character designs like the originals but in the new style.

Honestly I could see them including it but only because they believe it could 'normalize' pedophilia and trannies.

I'm sick of this shit. And I'm even more sick that people will eat it up, just like they're eating up Samus Returns.
What's with nintendrones and thinking that remakes in particular are such a big deal?
This is a fucking cash grab, wearing the skin of Super Star Saga's corpse.

That's really fucked up. It looks way worse than the original. They took the soul out of the game.

So as I'm compiling, I noticed they didn't bother remaking some songs all together. I wonder why that is.

Fuck.

Why there's a Zelda jingle here is beyond me as well.

Jesus fucking christ they majorly fucked up with the soundtrack on this one.

Maybe it's just me, but those no incarnations just scream laziness with how little difference there is between them and the standard "Mushroom Kingdom" versions. Granted, foes in Beanbean Kingdom were kind of intentional knockoffs of Mushroom Kingdom enemies anyhow, but even then, they still had a certain charm about them, and in a number of cases enough difference you could say that even if they were related, they were more "divergent species" than outright clones or series-scale "palette swaps".

Here though, looking at those, you go from what looks like a riff on a classic shellcreeper with a leaf sticking out of its head to a modern incarnation koopa with a leaf on its head, and some douchebag glaring out from a viney, faceless cloud is replaced with what is clearly a Lakitu, faced cloud and all with a leaf sticking out of its head (at least the cloud is also viney, but still). And while a hammer bro is a hammer bro, the GBA one has a surprisingly intimidating, squat look to it that makes it stand out, while the remake "updates" it to a run of the mill modern-era hammer bro. It feels like someone opted to strip out the "divergent species" feeling in favor of making them look more "standard" for modern audiences. Fuck, having replayed SPM recently, the way they've got those 3D redos of the Beanbean enemies rendered just make me think of those mindjacking sprouts from the Cragnon chapter that rendered said Cragnons they were parasitizing into soulless, pitiable husks of characters. It's also a vibe I DON'T get from the original GBA incarnations in comparison.

Hell, they didn't even get the leaf number right on the Lakitu-redo, where Beanbean-Cloud-Dickhead only has one compared to the revamp having two. To anyone that is actually playing this shit, do ALL the redone Beanbean enemies use a standard two-leaf design, or is there variety to it?

I don't understand why they want to make the Beanbean enemies 'standard' in the first place. I always thought the reason for M&L's existence was so the devs could do something slightly different with the established characters. What the fuck is the point of it being in a different kingdom and all that if the enemies are going to be exactly like the mainline ones?

That really is an amazing goddamn comparison, hard to not find this to be meta in a self-desparaging sort of way. If a disgruntled employee made sure to give the lakitu two leaves explicitly for the purpose then props to him.

what did Nintendo mean by this?

More than a bit telling when a game doesn't really need a remake in the first place and gets one anyhow that it's a cashgrab attempt.

Well, we went from Paper Mario having a variety of characters across a number of races, both from prior games and original races specifically for the games to generic toads out the ass in the games after SPM. The way I see it it could well be more of that whole "no no, everything has to clearly be the same" mentality. Before they were at least tongue-in-cheek knock-offs (as if the Mario Bros were canonically visiting a Chinese bootleg of Mushroom Kingdom), even at points being shoutouts to enemies/enemy subforms that don't appear that often in the main games anymore (such as how shellcreepers got phased out for upright koopas). Now it's got to CLEARLY be a koopa, CLEARLY be a Lakitu, etc, and modernized too, with the only thing setting them apart being the sprout. With the GBA sprites you could also get a clear sense that the game was being cheeky but had its own style. That hammer bro looks like an asshole who woke up on the wrong side of the bed who I don't want to piss off. Shellchinker looks kind of dopey, but in a way that makes him seem more like natural wildlife than a modern koopa ever does. Cloudcunt's sprite seems like he gets off on making you miserable and is hiding his face just enough so you don't see his shiteating grin as he watches Luigi take a spike through the foot. The style of the sprites gives them a personality, something that I think the generic feeling 3d models lack in comparison.

No, it's reality, it's just shit.

That's exactly how I feel. There's no reason to have 3D models if you're going to strip all the character from the game doing so.

I kind of want to pirate the game to see how much I could suffer before I just make a injected rom of the original, but I'd rather not since the artstyle has that terrible post-Dream Team style that really bothers me for some unknown reason.

Well, this isn't my proudest work.

GBA (better) version coming up in a bit.

Fuck it, made a little something if people want something to drop it elsewhere. If someone a bit better with typography wants to revamp it to read in a more visually interesting way, by all means feel free.

its ok if nintendo does it

just wow its like they literally sucked out all life from all the music. Like ALL OF IT

said literally nobody in this thread

Here, the clean GBA 'Soundtrack'
Right now it's empty, unless you're 4 hours into the future, then it's uploaded. Enjoy!

Superstar Saga was too easy to introduce the double jump. It feels like the numbers are faithful to the original but now I’m doing double damage thanks to this. Can anybody else attest?

No idea
Everything is uploaded now btw

I'm thoroughly disappointed in this remake

Tell me, at least, that the combat looks good.

Wasn't the whole gimmick of Superstar Saga being that you're in a different country and everything looks different from the norm as a result?

Like the koopa analouge being actual turtles and all that?

I'm curious to know if the character designs were all they changed. I hope they didn't mess with the gameplay in any way.

Thanks, user.

The worst part is that it isn't even consistent. Take this Chuck Guy for example: he looks actually accurate to how he was back in GBA, but the Troopeas, Lakipeas, and all the others get NSMB'd? I don't get it.

Fuck, forgot my image.

what the fuck is Bowser's minions?

Burn it in shit. Fucking worthless.

BANANA?
Some shitty after-game where you learn the "Backstory" about bowser and bowletta, but what is there to say?

FUCKING
DROPPED

Oh god, that guitar sounds Digimon World 1-tier. I mean, I loved the music in that game, but you can't just rip off the scratchy guitar and expect things to work right.

Are you fucking with me, user?

See

The saddest thing is that I got shit from Nintendo fanboys for calling them out on Jewtube. I wasn't even that aggressive about it, mainly because the absolutely abysmal OST was not out yet, and still "take your nostalgia glasses off" and "always the one asshole who has to complain". Fuck you. I wanted this to be good more than any of you cunts. The series has been getting worse ever since SS. All they had to do was copy what someone else had done, and still they fucked it up somehow. That's incompetence on a level that I will never understand.

Then again, it's youtube, what the fuck did I expect.

Goddammit. So many of the remixed songs feel like they lack punch, lack instruments, or use shitty midis like fan creators. I wanted a remake of Popple's theme since my lad years and the main instrument sounds garbage.

Speaking of the OST, have you niggers heard of the new "Bowser's Minions" songs? I swear, it sounds like the most generic fucking shit I've heard in a long time.

Youtube is filled with the absolutely worst retards on the internet.

It's Mario & Luigi, not Luigi & Mario :^)

YouTube is underage central, "what were you expecting" is all I can really say.

It sounds like the other 2 M&L games honestly

Also, while i'm at it, the regular battle theme sounds like they just recycled the remix from the last game, only with a bit of the song changed so people wouldn't notice.

I guarantee you there's some corporate politics involved with a dash of legacy defilement. You have no idea just how petty some of these assholes can be and how much money and time they're willing to piss away on a whim.

The 3DS is on it's way out, and they wanted to make a few extra shekels off of the engine they made for Dream Team and Paper Jam before retiring it.

Ever since Fire Emblem Awakening, Nintendo has been co-opted by the tumblr/twitter side of youtube who make Wiifags look like fucking nam vets in comparison.

url is dead give new one please

url is dead give new one please

oh boy that hasn't happened in a while

Calm down negrito

Why do this why remake a game and make it worse and give everything less detail. I mean I can already play Superstar saga on my 3DS why would I buy it again and have it worse. This shit is so disgusting it's just lazy garbage shoved out on a dead platform.

Geno's cameo is gone, so are the other Nintendo game cameos.

...

k this seems to work

drive.google.com/file/d/0BzFSQ3cgAfqhSVFYU1VndjBUU0k/view?usp=drive_web

OH GOD MY EARS

Kinda sad when some random person knows how to properly compose a theme more than some supposedly experienced musician.

What about the coffee shop special items. Are beans still mixed the same way, or is it simplified? Does E. Gadd still come in and give them all to you? Are there still hidden blocks and bean spots? Are there still unique items exclusive to Game Boy Horror SP and Advanced Swing Bros? Do all bosses/minibosses same to have a 100% item drop of new equipment like Hoohooros now does? Is the equipment system like Paper Jam or the original? Any changes/simplifications to minigames or any new ones?

...

I'm not playing the game, I'm just sharing things I've seen online

I can maybe understand the Geno one IF Square got on their case about it or something back in the day about reusing him, or something, but why take out shout outs to Kirby, Wario, and Stafy? Nintendo outright owns all of those, right? For fuck's sake, at least leave Wario alone, given how he's got a direct connection to Mario's series.

It's sad when even fans using similar instruments can make them at least work out somehow.

I guess Alpha Dream thinks people will cream their pants if they reference past Mario RPGS in the Mario & Luigi Franchise rather than implement new bosses like Bowsers Inside Story did with the shroobs.
It's a bit lazy stripping one cameo that clicks with fans of different franchises and replace them with in-universe posters, makes the whole canon seem less open and give way to less ideas and imaginative speculation (Oh, those guys are movie stars in THIS universe!?, how does this work, etc)
If you're gonna remove the references due to them being dated and make them modern, at least use newer Nintendo IP's like Splatoon, Arms, and Mario Odyssey as movie posters.

Hell, why not go and reference the Magnum Opus of Mario Turn Based Games, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars? So many nice little new ideas, fun secrets, easter eggs, gimmicks and cameos could have been implemented. No soul man, no soul.

...

Because Square made that game, and they seem to have some control over the rights to that.

I swear, I would have honestly preferred this game to be as a sort of anniversary game than a remake.
You could stretch it a little and have the universe tear itself into pieces with different variations of Mario trying to piece themselves together and have Luigi take over for a good chunk of the game as he travels through remixed parts of the "Mario & Luigi" franchise.
Except make the overall artstyle as the one we saw in the first trailer, thick lines, expressive stretchy faces and actual effort in the music.

If they don't do something like that for the Switch and keep the shitty psuedo-3D clay-like sprite work, then I'll be pretty fucking bummed.

Strange that they would have control over a Nintendo property. I think geno is fair game to them, but a cover of RPG Mario without any other secondary Square owned characters wouldn't do much harm.
Unless Nintendo did something stupid and cucked themselves out in a contract and now Square completely owns the game in its entirety, including that rendition of Mario in it's absolute.
I need to look into it.

Who thought this was a good idea?

I don't know, but they seem to have enough power over the rights to stop nintendo from making a sequel.

Whoops, forgot the link
unseen64.net/2008/04/04/super-mario-rpg-2-paper-mario-beta/

For one, as mentions, Square developed Super Mario RPG, and while they seem fine letting Nintendo rerelease it digitally, Nintendo hasn't been able to make sequels after their falling out, hence both Paper Mario, and Mario and Luigi as well, being successors to it after Nintendo had a falling out with most third party support during fifth gen (resulting in Square abandoning Nintendo until the Gamecube/GBA, and even then, Nintendo's never gotten another original main-series Final Fantasy title, only remakes, ports, and spinoffs).

In regard to Geno, and the other original characters, I think Square might hold the rights to them, while the Nintendo characters are obviously owned by Nintendo still. Essentially, I'd wager Nintendo licensed characters out to them to borrow, and probably had to approve of how Square used them, but the Original the Characters they left in Square's hands. And even with AlphaDream being former Square to some degree, I'm sure they can't just reuse former Square characters/titles the individuals there may have worked on (in similar fashion as to the way MonolithSoft can't reuse characters or make true sequels to Xenogears). But I could just as well be wrong; I wasn't big into vidya back then, so it's not like I followed development of the game as it was coming out and I still haven't gotten around to Super Mario RPG yet myself.

which one of you made the mistake of posting in the youtube comments of a nintendo video?

Not me, i'd be screaming at those retards if it was, especially the faggot saying it was "changed a bit"

I wanna fucking vomit

I'd hope I don't have to say this to anyone here, but reminder to keep greentexting to imageboards.

Fawful was such a great villain honestly wish they didn't completely kill him off.

Thank you.

But why does the original GBA soundtrack have two Luigi Mansion themes ("Luigi's Haunted Brew" & "Bean Tester // Proffesor E. Gadd") but Bowser's Minions only has one ("Spectral Specialist // Professor E. Gadd"? What happened to the other one?

They probably took out the game boy horror sp and all the cameos, including the hidden unused ones in the code.

Certain events were removed, unfortunately. Though, I think you can still trigger events with only GBA music playing.
Sorry for the harsh news user.

It actually looks worse than the original. I can't wait for remake cancer to go away.

Do these retards not grasp the concept of a 40-hour work week? Or that things like this aren't usually done by just a single person.

I keep finding these mixtape items that let me listen to the old OST, but is there ANY way to play the original OST instead of the new one? It would make everything so much better

Any idea on what was all removed? Doesn't look like the mario wiki is up to date.

But user, the original koopas were actual turtles

Yeah
Play the original

That was a joke about the shit quality, notice he still refers to it as sounding like a midi conversion.

Just fuck my shit up

I refuse to believe that last comment isn't satire. How could someone try to EXCUSE a shitty Nintendo song by reasoning that the creator had 10 minutes to make a song that got approved by Nintendo?

Don't you love it when Japanese exclusives get brought over just to die or turn to shit immediately?

No, you dip. He's shitting on the music, too. When he says MP3/MIDI converter, he's referring to the program that makes webm related. He makes another comment later in the thread showing his disapproval.

I want to get into Glory of heracles and play the fan translations, in honor of data east. Is it worth it?

this version sounds better than the new remake's

really obligues my consciousness to ponder

They aren't really special gameplay wise apart from their settings so keep that in mind.

Sounds good man, keeps itself in the background/lower tones while the FX will take care of the sharp ends.

Regarding the game, I tried playing Dream Team but the anti-aliased pixel art gave me cancer. Since they were too cheap and lazy to add any 3D this time, are the assets crisp-looking and at the proper scale?

God dammit user, now you got me sad.

...

why are youtube comments in Nintendo videos always so stupid?

It's the perfect mix of manchildren, actual children, shills and people pretending to be shills that ends up being an indistinguishable mess of stupid.

Seconding this. Play just for the cool mythos.

She's still out there, user. Waiting for you to play her. Wondering what she did wrong to make you abandon her.

Fuck, meant for the second link to be this.

I'm actually sorry you didn't get to see the bonus stages, they were pretty cool.
and that bonus boss

So does this remake at least have a hard mode or something? Because that was seriously the only thing stopping the original game from being perfect.

How playable are the unlocalized Stafy games if you don't know jap?

100% You don't start with all your moves in most games, so every now and then, in the tutorial areas, go back to trying buttons if you get stuck. There's no cryptic quests that require understanding the dialog as far as I can remember.

Awesome, I'll start working them after the game I'm currently playing

How long until this one gets the same treatment? I wouldn't put it past Squeenix to hire Matrix for a cheap remake.

They've been working pretty hard to memoryhole it these past 21 years so probably not.

Why though? It's a solid game, better than FFVI even.

Because Nomura had nothing to do with it.

...

We have a snitch

this

Because of legal reasons
Nintendo holds the IP, square holds IP for certain characters
they'd have to settle for some sort of percentage earnings which makes the remake a risk investement with expenses making it less tentative to do. It's sad. I know.
Best bet is Alpha dream and nintendo approaching them for their consent and giving them a % but even then they're better off doing another mario & luigi, profit wise

Oh well, thanks for the clarification.

Don't forget Magical Vacation/Starsign as well. Two games, only the second brought west, and the series subsequently abandoned.

Glory of Heracles was kind of a sad case anyhow.
Probably didn't help matters that, in regards to the DS one, most potential western players have likely been under an impression from middling "professional" reviews.

what a weak remix for the final boss theme.

I'm uploading to 1 more mirror, and it's taking a while. I'll also post that link as soon as it's done.

You're god's gift to kike shitters user.

I'm always too slow to the draw

wait no, they work. Thanks user

At least Vacation got a full fanslation.

3DPD.

The original version's sprites had the cartoon sensibilities of giving a lot of personality and expression to faces and postures. The new models look like they're posing for Sears photography… They actually do look generic.

Did they ever fix the bugs up though? I recall hearing the game had some issues when patched with the English script.

That QTE sucked, but damn you have me remembering how good the bonus stages were now. That music, too

If you only have time for one for some reason I'd recommend 3

Glad I can help. My browser crashed before finishing the upload for the last mirror, but I think this should be enough for now.

the remastered music isnt horrible. it has the correct energy but it lacks "oomph". the same thing happened with the calamari inkantation remix.

wait what the fuck? wheres the evil guitar? oh my god are they deaf? someone in their sound department needs their head examined.

the boss fight itself is shit too because the visual effects are overdone and cackletta is 3d so you can barely tell wtf is going on

I had to tank the arm swings with emergency guards because they were impossible to discern

only song in the whole OST that felt faithful to the original

...

THEY'RE SUPPOSED TO BE CHAINS GOD DAMMIT
How'd they fuck up a detail like that?

Superstar Saga is my favorite game of all time and… i don't know. This looks fucking horrible.
WHAT WERE THEY THINKING.

Don't fret, user.
It sounds worse than it looks.

sounds like shit
i'm disgusted.

Some themes are better, like the battle theme and Bowletta's theme IMO, and yes others are completely ruined

How did we go from this…

I swear to fuck, the little "gong" in this song is a Fruity Loops Preset. In the Sytrus plugin, it's one of the "bells".

Remake has a lot of sprite oddities like that; some look a lot better or didn't really change (ie those Sharpea enemies in Chucklehuck Woods and Beanies), others are flat-out worse or genericized like much of anything related to Bowser reusing DT or PJ sprites. The Robo-Chomp enemy in Woohoo Hooniversity also got replaced with Mechakoopas for no readily-discernible reason.

Combat was elevated up to Dream Team's engine, which means a timed hit is a proper double-attack but it's a bit slower than the original's combat. Bros. Attacks are back in full force but Advances were replaced with "Super" moves (ie "Super Splash Bros.), and you learn Super moves far faster than you did Advance moves in the original. Super moves are treated as their own moves so you can't go into Super at the start of a Bros. Attack like you could Advances, but to offset being their own thing + costing more BP they're pretty much upgrades in terms of power. Super Splash Bros. does more damage than Splash Bros. in addition to being able to use jump-damage on a spiky enemy for instance.

Mario and Luigi can't change position with a press of a button anymore, though frankly I see why they did it; outside of sheer personal preference there's no real reason to flip-flop their positions unless you're using a field-action like high jumps. More or less it combines the line-order change with the field actions so they only change when you've got one selected.

No, the Superstar Saga version is its own mix entirely. PJ's iteration of it was more of a direct translation and SS's is its own thing, though for overall sound I prefer PJ's.

Geno already had a paragraph of copyright information dedicated solely to him in the original and Squeenix is a bunch of kikes. Movie posters rumble my autism but in the original they were referencing other games coming out at or around the same time, ie Wario Land 4 and Starfy (which was a literally-who to any English speaker).

Shimamura isn't known for her remakes.

Still mixed the same way, Gadd comes in last I checked, absolutely no item placement has been changed (hidden blocks, buried beans, etc), still unique items, most bosses have exclusive drops (didn't see one from Wiggler), equipment system is like the original (gear, badge, special-item). No changes to minigames, up to Chucklehuck Woods and haven't seen new ones.

i pray you pirated this pile of shit, and didnt give them shekels. Once there is a decrypted rom avaliable, ill emulate it once or twice

There isn't any way to buy it, dope. Its release isn't until October 6th. It's not bad, honestly, it's just different from the original in some ways, which is a "no shit, it's a remake" scenario. Emulate the original or play the remake, doesn't really matter. Minions mode is good.

Where is Ren when you need him?

He's with Bubsy now.

Don't you have other games to shill, nintoddler?

This is what I meant earlier, a lot of musicians have switched to FL Studio or Garage Band of Macintosh.
I'll look for reviews but If you can, look for "[x] game sound designer"

Mate if you just wanted to shitpost and console-war you could've said so, no need to beat around the bush. My point is it's the same core game either way so it honestly, truly, makes no difference which one you pick. If you want better combat (and believe you me Superstar Saga GBA is pretty janky in comparison to BiS and later), play the 3DS version. If you want a more consistent/original artstyle, the original music since the remixes are all over the place, and some references, play the GBA version. Otherwise the writing, puzzles, Bros. actions, story and characters are all the same.

Unless I'm retarded, there isn't any mention of anyone else working on the music. So either they're in the "special thanks" or Yoko herself did it.

...

I didn't like Minions Mode. I really dislike how slower it is as well, but it's good for people with slow reaction times which isn't for me personally. It grated the fuck out of me how I kept pressing it too early and the game refused to cooperate. What the fuck, game? I do like how the Super™ moves are more powerful, but there is no use to that since my criticism still applies. Though, to be fair, I'd still do damage if I miss, so there's that. My experience is still hindered in general though.

The sprite quality is horrid at first, you get used to it for a bit, then it became worse than I first saw it. It misses the Mark so much, especially with enemies made for the original art like Chuckonator or the Beanbean Queen, and as people have mentioned, Cackletta, those are just very small sample of examples, the whole game feels inconsistent with the feeling it's trying to achieve and others are really eating it up, because they don't know any better, they've never had an external idea big enough to help the game improve for the life of them, put a hot turd in a plate and slap the "Nintendo" insignia on it and they'll devour it and lick their fingers without a second thought.

Am I surprised? Hell no. They have a very different team than what they had in Superstar Saga, so they had a different "creative" vision, which ain't a good thing for me, putty sprites and all. They could have had an American cartoonist like John K. or John R. Dilworth to give them a sense of the original, or anyone that knows how to make things that are vivid and POP.
If anything, they don't even need them, but Japs tend not to have a very "fresh" sense of direction sometimes. I'm not talking about only art style by the way. I'm just trying to prevent this from becoming a tl;dr.

It's quite unfortunate that they're branching off a different path now. A lot of games, if not all of them are doing that now honestly. They're becoming pasty and unexciting, very basic, very bland, a placid vision you could say. I go back, play a game I've never even touched as a kid and have a hell of a good time, (I.E Super Metroid) so I know it's not me.
The only Project I've seen remain at least somewhat true to its inception is Kirby, and if I'm talking about the newest idea that's been executed well, then that award goes to Pokkén. I might just buy it in the near futurrt, since I yarrharred the Wii U version, though I feel Nihilistic when I realize that even if my purchase matters, there is NOTHING I can do to control the direction and flow of their future projects.

God save us, Kirby. We need your leadership more than ever in this trying time. No. I don't want a Easter Egg for this trying time

It just keeps getting worse.

>missed where I mentioned I'm the aforementioned faggot in the first place dynamic IPs can be damned inconvenient with the thread ID system
Musical comparison to Sonic Chronicles is flat-out hyperbole even if I agree some tracks are bad or only decent.

By "John K.", I also meant the people who worked on it. Like Vincent and Casey
Second guy had some drama with that autist, Mr. Enter. I didn't know about it, but that's kind of funny
He even had to lock some of his accounts.

Yeah. They're pretty typical " FUG DRUMP :^[" types
Though, Dilworth is apolitical from what I remember.

Just fuck already.

Like Sonic Mania? I'm fine with that.

This can go nowhere interesting.

He's not my type.

I want to fuck that console

Shit. I meant to sound "Sound designer INTERVIEW", I know Yoko did it.
Pokémon, Zelda, Splatoon and other IP's have switched to popular easy peasy music software.

i have no mouth and i must scream

U bitch i worked hard to find this link

I know that feel user.

Why hasn't someone made a hard mode romhack of the original superstar saga already? That was seriously the only thing the game was lacking.

Somebody did, apparently.
gbatemp.net/threads/mario-luigi-superstar-saga-difficulty-hacks.333024/

There's that word again. What a fucking kid.

to this?

So how about that Paper Mario Pro Mode instead? At least it's something, r-right?

These remakes seem generally fine and do their job.

Title Theme
File Select
Prince Peasely
Danger
Mario's House
The Koopa Cruiser
Stardust Fields
HooHoo Village
Normal Battle Theme
Proffesor E. Gadd
Woohoo Hooniversity
Seabed
Bowletta - Final Boss Battle Phase 1
Adventure End
Staff Credits

"Bowletta" Boss theme is a weird exception. It's actually mostly better then the original despite the ear rapping instrument in the background. The "Normal Battle Theme" get's it's much needed extension and I'm glad it's fully remade. Not a memeable as the original, but I do appreciate it's not as repetitive

These remakes seem generally fine but suffer from a bit too much reverb in parts

Town in Ruins - Devastation
Peach's Castle Garden
Hoohoo Mountain Ridge
Chateau de Chucklehuck
Little Fungitown
Cackletta Theme

Also with Cackletta theme are the slow/sped up variants of it still in the remake? Or did they get rid of them?

These remakes have weird oddities about them that hold them back.

Fawful - Panic
Underground
Beanbean Kingdom Fields
Beanbean Castle
Boss Battle
Popple & Rookie Battle
Chucklehucks Woods
Cackletta Battle
Teehee Valley
Gwarhar Lagoon / Oho Oasis
Joke's End
Bowser's Castle
Cackletta's SOUL - Final Boss Battle Phase 2

For "Panic", what's with that brass note? Why add that? "Underground" has weird instruments. The original flute in "Beanbean Kingdom Fields" sounded like a Pan Flute, but now here it's more generic. The Harpsichord from "Beanbean Castle" sounds too loud. The "Boss Battle" theme uses a really bad rock organ and feels like it misses instruments. Speaking of bad instruments, that's the entirety of the "Popple & Rookie" battle, seriously. Chucklehucks Woods" not only suffers from too much reverb but the main instrument isn't as high pitched as the original, so the theme sounds less creepy. "Cackletta Battle" has that godawful (Pokemon BW?) midi soundfont in the beginning that rapes the ears. "Teehee Valley" I actually like the replacing of the flute here, in fact I like this mix but for some reason this theme sounds… empty. "Gwarhar Lagoon / Oho Oasis" is also mostly generally fine but that one segment with that damn Flute is terrible (what's with the flutes in the remake?). Too much reverb in "Joke's End" and that one background noise bell is WAY too loud in this mix and get's too much attention. "Bowser's Castle" is decent but the violin used sounds too cheap. "Cackletta's Soul" is probably the biggest stinker of the soundtrack. Guitar itself is terrible as well as being completely subdued so it barely get's the spotlight it had in the original too much reverb, and the rest of the orchestration is average.

The "Minions Battle Theme" I actually really like but it is generic. It's very similar to "Attack and Run!" from Paper Jam. Minions Boss Battle is also serviceable but generic.

Thoughts?

Are there any videos of the ending/credits yet?

Remember Sprites?

That was a good time.

see

Let's get down to business, shall we?
Super Star Saga > Bower's Inside Story > Paper Jam = Dream Team > Partners in Time

Is this the romhack with like even extra shit? like extra levels and harder battles.

I enjoyed Super Mario RPG Armageddon, so I think I'll definitely give this one a go.
video related

I watched a fight of the Bowletta fight and it looks like they got rid of the sped up version before the fight begins, but kept the slow one after the fight when she's dying.

24:15 for the remake's version of Slow Cackletta.

The original scene for comparison. 0:25 for the fast version, 8:40 for slow.

the first game had way better atmosphere for the final boss

also,

the remake looks bland for atmosphere and feeling, something the initial game got right
also

Oh shit, I completely missed that. That really enforced the "Oh shit, I only have 1 HP" part of the fight, I can't believe they got rid of it.

Color contrast is almost nonexistant in the remake too. Mario in particular blends in way too well.

Yeah, not only is the base game more challenging but they added rematch bosses that are just brick walls. A shame they get a tad too repetitive, the most fun is had with bosses that consist of multiple enemies or parts because of the random buffs.

neat

This is FF13 levels of cancer.

They don't do 9999, they do more, but the code of SMRPG doesn't allow you to show more than 9999

It's just the limitation of the software.

Bowser's Inside Story > Dream Team = Superstar Saga = SS Remake > Partners in Time = Paper Jam

...

SuperStar Saga > Bowser's Inside Story >> Dream Team > Partners in Time >>>> Paper Jam

That's even worse. Damage bloat means HP has to be bloated to compare, and that is cancerous in any RPG.

The fight is just 3 minutes.
How casual can you be?
It's not even a 30-40min secret boss fight like in SMT or Digital Devil Saga

I think the safest tier would be
Bowser's inside story or SSS first/second > Dream Team in a solid third, and PiT or Paper Jam 4th or 5th. The last two should be up for debate, but the first three are solid positions

Dream Team is pretty damned good in spite of the tutorials and shoving in Starlow for no real reason ("emissary of the Star Sprites" to a fucking vacation, come on now), and its giant battles are leagues better than BiS's to the point I was quite happy that it got rematches as X bosses. Paper Jam and PiT bored me in about the same way, and while PJ had better combat I couldn't bring myself to finish it because I wasn't having fun with it, same as PiT.

SSS > BiS > DT > PJ > PiT

in my opinion. DT and PJ are very samey in feeling. Giant Luigi segments are no different than paper tank battles, except giant luigi is more fun, but the structure is the same forced gimmick segment boss battle.
I enjoyed the koopa fights and the world levels of PJ. Yes, the journey has a shitty story and finding paper toads is a drag, which eventually gives you little reason to go forward, but the structure is the same as DT except DT has a better story and less drag.
one thing id remove from PJ and BiS/DT is giant battles and paper tank fights. I rather have turn based fights with mario and luigi. they are all a fucking gimmick. SSS was pure essence of fun and solid gameplay, but biS is great by adding bowser as a party member. The issue wasn't bowser, just the enemies you fought as bowser were bland.
I think PJ is not worse than PiT, in both gameplay and levels, that alone makes it 4th and not 5th.

Its also important to mention DT is easily broken and they had to nerf some talent choices/badge level up talent points for PJ, while buffing others. That's also a +1 point for PJ. Also Paper Mario > babies and I think Paper mario was a great addition, even though they used sticker star /color splash paper mario and not Paper mario/Paper mario TTYD Paper Mario

I agree for the most part, but fail to see how Paper Jam surpasses Partners in Time.

Partners in Time cons:

Paper Jam cons:
>No new enemies or characters, when the whole point of the series was "the enemies is this game are like the normal Mushroom Kingdom ones but different according this this theme" I know the theme this time was paperized versions, but that feels like a cop-out since it reused assets

Moreover, Paper Jam has an underrated soundtrack.

You have my deepest thanks for such a great quality upload, user. What are your thoughts on PiT soundtrack? It is a game that gets overlooked all the time but I think it is fantastic and after another playthrough I found it to be more enjoyable than BiS.

I agree comepletely with this. what a fucking wasted potential.
Another thing that was a waste of potential was letting the paper toads be all unique designs and variety like in paper mario. would be fucking baller that cooking toad mama was in this game. Would be baller to see some paper mario badges too.

I understand Starlow coming back. that fucker is pretty much staple at this point. I honestly think Starlow should show up, but not be main navigator every single fucking game.

The other tidbits you mentioned i completely agree. It's why Dream Team is ranked higher. Another wasted potential was not going inside the paper world for paper levels or dungeons. could've been like Dream Team, going to the book to get items to unlock shit int he real world or vice versa.

The reason why PiT is worse is because of how long and empty the game gets. If you think paper jam is a drag, PiT is the same except with annoying babies and shittier combat.

PiT is another wasted potential premise because the antagonist idea was great. fucking alien shrooms coming to do what mushromos do, be decomposers and eat dead things. in princess shroom's head the mushroom kingdom was dead to her, something just to conquer and devour.
PiT was wasted potential just like paper jam. It just gets more and more boring until final dungeon.
At least PJ has a solid structure (copied from DT) even though it has a shitter gimmick and its wobbly. PiT is just walking from A to B with no spice or flavor, which SSS is full of.

not letting*

It's probably just due to my ability to enjoy mediocre, repetitive RPG mechanics. Partners in Time had smaller worlds, and you were always moving forward or fighting. Paper Jam has not main game shit that drags on forever, like mini-games and papercraft battles, plus the areas are unnecessarily big and bland. I'd rather do decent battles for five hours than shitty mini-games for one.

It goes like this
You rather play a worse battle system for 5 hours
or play a better battle system for 4 and 1 of mini games. It's either a or B
also you're over-dramatizing the existence of the mini-games. If you're not bad you can get the toads under 3 minutes. Unless you're retarded, I don't see the toad mini game as such a harsh issue considering the forced toad finding takes place like 5 times total.

A bigger concern is paper tank battle, which is forced and un-avoidable. Then again you can argue that it's no different than Giant battles, which BiS and DT have, and they're high on the tier list. You can also argue that paper tank battles are FASTER to be done with while BiS/DT you are locked to wait on animations for every turn, while PJ is action-based and you can speed through.

I, too, can enjoy repetitive RPG mechanics. I enjoyed all Mario and Luigis. I also have the resilience to stomach and speed through the paper tank battles or the little toad finding and resume enjoying the main game. mini-games are prevalent in many games. the issue is that the tank battles and the toad fights for important items are forced. They're trying to find an excuse for world actions to happen. TBH I didn't mind toad finding because you were also hunting for beans and items on the world as you went by. The true issue is the paper tank battles.

given the fact i don't mind the Giant battles/paper tank/mini games, I would rather go for the better turn based gameplay.

What actually bothers me more is the wasted potential.
DT and Paper Jam also suffer being slower paced than the previous games. This is important to mention, since the pacing of the game is paramount to the quality of the up-beat action turn based rpg gameplay.

The crux of my argument is Paper Jam having three simultaneous player characters makes the battle system just annoying enough that I would rather go back to Partners in Time's simpler system.

That's subjective.
Both DT and PJ are slower, this started with the DT engine.
the game has been giving you cues on what character will be hti since the first game. the emergency guard is the new casual helper, but its optional, just like the toggle.
I did not mind having 3 to control, considering Paper mario does not intrude on Mario and luigi's dodging. Yes, sharing attack turns where paper mario was attack was easier to dodge due to the nature of his jump and him being alone, but he was also a glass cannon. with little health, hence the paper clones. and if he got hit, it respects the Mario and luigi momentum system where "if you dont dodge, you lose momentum" (trip, debuffs, lose a turn, damage) that has been around since super star saga. This is done because if he loses paper clones, his damage is lowered, so you have to reload clones. Only end game he can pick a talent to auto-reload (which is Best choice if you ask me, because you can keep the momentum to your side always).

If paper mario was as bulky as mario or luigi and the paper clone system wasn't a thing I'd agree with you, but it compensates fact he is being attacked alone when its his turn to dodge.

That's been the point since the beginning. That;s the point of every "which game is better?"

I think the paper clones ability made him ridiculously overpowered, and thought the game was more fair without it.
I just don't think the battle system works with three characters. Either you split it, so attacks either go for just Mario & Luigi or just Paper Mario, which would usually end up too easy. Or any attack could go for for any of the three, or just any given two, which would be a lot more fun, but harder to balance, so they mostly didn't even try.

Hey… in the remake did they make it where you could hold the hammer indefinitely during counterattacks like with the new ones? Or am I just crazy?

They did. They also made a lot of attacks slower, shortened how many tries it takes to get advanced moves, made the mini-games easier, made the lakitu bonus spinner slower, and made all the hidden bean spots (and maybe blocks, haven't gotten that far) visible.

I wasn't going to buy this game in the first place but it still feels horrible to know how butchered it'll be

Bean spots are more visible, hidden blocks still aren't visible

honestly, it's not as bad as other dev studios out there
It's as butchered as Crash bandicoot triology. It's still playable. not the same, not the same atmosphere or feeling, but respects the main blueprint.
a disappointment nevertheless, but at least its not completely and utterly destroyed by butchering the dialogue and applying culturization of what's left like they did with Dragon Quest 4, 5, 6 and 7

Disappointing about the sped up version, but at least they kept the slow version

Paper Jam's issue is that so many of the location themes from Dream Team were reused for Paper Jam, so it makes the soundtrack seem like it's just more of the same. I really like Paper jam's normal battle theme.

It plays well and I like some things that are done over the original. At least it's not like Atlus' remakes these days where they utterly miss the point of the original or include day 1 on-cart DLC.

Replay-gain recommended in some tracks

Some tracks actually sound "boomy" now that I hear them. I may need to rerip and adjust better. The NDS files are from NCSF files, which are the cleanest Nintendo DS sound files around.
I've never gotten around to uploading Black/White or Black2White2 either. May do that later, or tomorrow.

Anyone else that instead of remakes they'd just publish the game on new systems, maybe with a couple others in the same vein?

Paper Mario 1 and TTYD, Superstar Saga and Partners in Time, Smash Bros and Melee, etc.

That's what Virtual Console's for.

if you mean ZERO MISSION level of remake yes
if you mean Superstar saga level of remake then no

Why are some people above saying the remake has overall 3D models? The remaked game has mostly 2D handmade sprites with frames of animation from Dream Team.

It's the same as the original game. You can have Luigi in the front while progressing through the game with the X button. The only exception of this is that you can't make Mario jump alone while Luigi is in the lead.

What the fuck are you talking about?
X just makes them both jump simultaneously

Exactly. Thanks to the X button, you don't have to switch to Mario back everytime you need to jump onto a higher platform or to another platform.
