So I have had one of the weirdest days in my entire working life today.

A few months ago, my business, which is corporate-backed (like a spinoff, not quite a franchise) got split off from the main company and into its own LLC, but under the same ownership. The company owners told everyone that this was to simplify book-keeping because my shop is so different from the rest of the company. Okay so far. I knew we had been struggling against a big competitor in our main line of business, so anything that made life easier made sense.

Fast forward to yesterday. I couldn't reach anybody at company headquarters on the phone all day because all the main staff were in meetings throughout the whole day. This happens once in a great while, but is usually announced in advance so this was also strange.

Well this morning, two of the head-head-HEAD honchos, the corporate owners/CEOs, both came to my store while I was opening. They told me that our company had been offered a buyout by a much bigger fish and they were taking it. We were going to cease to exist very soon, and the meetings yesterday was them breaking the news to everyone.

So that was it. The company was on its way out, and I was going to need to find a new job. Only not. The big fish company only got the main corporation, not the LLC that my whole section is operating under. Not only are they keeping me and my store, but they offered me a promotion to executive with an ownership stake in the company, with quarterly dividends and a $600/mo increase in pay.

I've managed to hold it together all day and be professional, but I'm losing my mind between being depressed about the big company and all my companions maybe losing their jobs, fucking ecstatic about my own potential prospects in the near future, and smug because the one cocky faggot I've had trouble with in the company is probably going to get shitcanned while I hardwork off into the sunset.

I don't think this is the case, as I've known these owners for several years (both devout religious, too), and perhaps more importantly, I do my own book-keeping for my division already. I've been running it myself for two years, with the same responsibilities already. Its better compensation for the same job with a little more work and a lot more independent control added.
