Is there any actual separation between ssg red and blue at this point? I've seen people argue that one is better than the other and super can't be bothered to remain consistent with itself. I know the manga shows red as distinctly weaker than blue, but no one seems to care about that.

Red is weaker but uses less stamina and thus can be used longer. Blue is stronger and uses more stamina while being more efficient than SS3 due to superior ki control, since it involves preventing your ki from leaking out all over the fucking place like with 3 which wastes a lot of 3's power.

The red hue of the Kaoi Ken was supposed to be a psychical manifestation of raw energy, as in your body was so hot that it was literally red, same with yellow hair in super saiyans, considering that the ki around them was also yellow, unlike the blue/white ki from humans.

I like to think of GT as a what-if parallel world. Seems like the Xenoverse games treat it that way as well.

If you don't want to watch 100+ episodes of toy commercials with bad animation, i'd recommend the DBS manga which is closer to Toriyama's script and easier on the eyes.

That was Toriyama's original idea in fact. But then he was pushed by Toei to create one "last" arc, which resulted in the Androids one. Then, when he tought it would indeed be the final one and designed its end to be quite conclusive, he was pushed yet again to make another one (Buu's).

The Androids arc turned out quite good IMO, but the Buu saga was pure madness. You could already sense Toriyama's exhaustion with the series.

Goku already has a SSJ2 mode. There's no reason to have multiple modes unless it's the character's gimmick and you don't make the main character a gimmick character.

I hear now and again that the saiyan saga was supposed to be the last arc, and when toei forced him to extend the series further he went full edgelord and killed half the cast as justification for traveling to namek. That's why Yamcha fell for an easy to avoid suicide attack despite his character development in the previous arc was being told by Kami to not underestimate opponents for their looks, and why nappa had about two or three different moments where he was supposed to die before toriyama's editor butted in.

The famicom game based on the saiyan saga ran with the original outline, which is why Piccolo is the only one to die and its from sheer exhaustion rather than being an idiot and taking a hit he didn't need to. The game is actually pretty fun over all, albeit slightly grindy.

It's more like Dragonball than DBZ, though, which is a good thing. It's more about the character interaction and comedy than the action. The current arc is pretty much a self-aware parody of DBZ, and Zen-Oh-Sama is designed to lampoon "hardcore" DBZ fans by characterizing them as simple idiots who just like to watch people blow things up and scream.

The exploration, discovery, and kung fu aren't present at all and reverting Goku back into a child mentally is a tad grating and it feels like they want the Luffy crowd more than anything. It's trying to be somewhere inbetween Ball and Z but not managing to find it's place. When it tries to be more related to Z everything feels watered down. In Z a normal SSJ form had attacks that could easily destroy a planet, and the ratio of the combat felt a lot larger scale.

With these new god forms and ki they somehow manage to feel smaller scale aside from the first fight with Beerus, and the locations are pretty static for the fights. It would have been neat if they had to actually be careful when fighting in their god forms due to tearing apart the universe, and the fights were so large scale they were a tad trippy, something similar to Beerus' and Champa's fight in the manga. About the nicest thing I can say about it is that it really gets the "big family" feel of the characters right (though drops the ball a couple of times, particularly with 18) and it has recently refound a working formula to keep people interested. Also that the art and animation have gotten considerably better so it's nice they listened to some of the criticism.
