Times have certainly changed. Going through that folder is like messing around with a time capsule buried in the backyard. Better, more carefree times that won't come back. And those times now exist mostly in old screenshots, for even the archival sites from back then are dead and forgotten.

Halfchan, and other older western imageboards (many of whom's corpses now litter the internet), were fortunate enough to "grow up" in a time before reddit and tumblr became a thing (I remember when ebaumsworld was considered an enemy). Unfortunately, I doubt that any modern imageboard could grow an organic userbase without growing some amount of tumors of cross-posters from either site.

It's a cyclical problem that feeds into itself, where you can't find a userbase, because you don't have a big enough userbase already.
