To cash in the nostalgia bucks Look the graphics suck exactly the way they used to suck
Nicholas Cooper
wait, so you wanna make a demo that looks like a playstation game?
Blake Ward
It would be interesting to use such limitations to make more modern graphics.
t. faggot who is learning opengl and computer graphics programming.
Christopher Taylor
Then program for a fucking psx, don't emulate it.
Camden Sanchez
I just wanna read about a psx capabilities.
It would be nice to use psx graphics with modern textures or some shit like PBR or raytracing.
Andrew Ward
Oh now I see. WHy not just go low poly or something?
Sebastian Brown
the psx had a lot of flaws that need to be emulated if we want the look.
like affine texture mapping, imprecisse integer math and other quirks, as my research gives me.
Today we can do that easily with shaders and shit.
Easton Stewart
Well fuck nigga I dont know. You can either limit yourself or do it on old hardware if you wanna be challenged. You know if your putting all your effort into it or not, no need to set limits.
Grayson Torres
is for learning purposes, I'm learning graphics programming.
Liam Cruz
If I may ask, why not see about programming for the Dreamcast instead? dcemulation.org/
Ryder Murphy
the dreamcast use more modern techniques. even the N64 solve many of the psx problems.
Caleb Watson
Try and forcefully disable Zplane scaling.
Jace Martin
But it doesn't need to be emulated if you program for the actual thing Just admit it, you want to cash in the nostalgia bucks.
Austin Morris
maybe, but I want proper emulation, not shitty retro indie hispter shit.
right now I'm reading some emulation shit.
Chase Butler
I don't know. One of the "Last arts" of game design is learning how to optimize and work with limitations. Learning that would probably help OP out a lot more if he wants to further pursue game design.
John Cruz
WHAT'S MORE PROPER THAN USING THE FUCKING PSX DEVKIT, FUCK
Angel Cruz
I'm learning graphics programming, what didn't you get?
Wouldn't it be more work to make a literal playstation game, than to make a game with playstation graphics?
John Butler
...
Leo Nelson
Well, the graphics programmer said that he wanted to learn to work under the limits of the PSX.
What does that have anything to do with using the real hardware? Are you not going to learn because you used the actual thing instead of emulating the look half assedly?
Brayden Ward
There was a thread on /3/'s cuckchan about this. Here are some notes:
Liam Martinez
It would be nice to do both, you know.
Kayden Wilson
You're clinically retarded, aren't you? If you do it in the real thing, you will be able to do the same shit outside of it.
Thomas Lopez
you're not being off any help beyond callling me retarded.
got any link to help me?
William Perry
You came here expecting people to spoonfeed you? Is Google a hard thing to use for you? Can't you fucking search "PSX Devkit" you lazy sack of shit?
Justin Green
Are you fucking retarded? He wants to know how to emulate the flaws of PS1 renderering. He isn't going to learn shit if he works on a real PS1 as there will be nothing to emulate.
Adam Bell
why so angry though?
thanks.
Henry Foster
going to sleep.
brb
Lincoln Perry
He isn't developing for the PS1, he's trying to figure out how to render the look visually using shaders and design choices.
Rest well homie.
Daniel Bailey
OP, you don't need to do anything too crazy to get desirable results for PS1 "style" visuals. Most people already described it, 1MB limit, affine textures, no filtering, etc.
PS1 visuals are really simple and there aren't many odd quirks to it that aren't well understood. If you wanna do something really out there, try saturn
but why is he so angry is the question 🤔🤔🤔
Jayden Reed
Because I smell another faux-retro nostalgia cashgrab shit game in the making.
Kayden Ross
fuck a floating point, nigga, raw dog ints all day. how about you vector my dick with a low precision
John Garcia
I really like this look because it feels more alive.
Ethan Gray
Are you going to post it on here once it's finished?
Eli Williams
sure, but right now I'm learning data structures, after that will be algorithms then move to math.
I'm sure it wont take me more than two months of study.
