This could have been an amazing franchise, why did SEGA drop the ball so hard?

This could have been an amazing franchise, why did SEGA drop the ball so hard?

It came out on the Saturn, that's why nobody even knew about it until many years later.

Was the second one that bad?

...

I don't know Satan, you tell me.

Probably because not a lot of people are that interested in score-attack games, hence arcade's decline.

Also, posting best song.

...

This game is garbage, tried it for the first time this year. It isn't a franchise because it's another SEGA turd.

...

I've only played it a bit once, but I recall it seemed to have too much modern filler - a bunch of voiced cutscenes and hub bullshit that were absolutely unnecessary.

I like this better.

Second one wasn't that bad. What killed it is:

Soundtrack is pretty nice

If dubs the series will make a huge return

alongside the score-attack genre

Infighting and that pretentious little shithead creator of Sanic, Sega Saturn was shit, they surrendered 3 years of the console market to Sony and Nintendo, and there's the infighting of the devs teams in Japan and the US, and they don't know what to fucking do with it after several fucking revisions.

I only really played the first one, so I don't know if I'd enjoy the second more, but I remember when it came out, 3D was the new big thing, and this game was advertised as if it was 3D, not to mention as being the new Sonic. So I come this close to being suckered into buying a Saturn, but just barely get a PS instead, with Crash Bandicoot. But a while later I meet someone who has a Saturn with NiGHTS, and I'm excited to try it, only to find that the kids are the only 3D sections and it's absolutely pointless to play as them, they have absolutely nothing to do except take three steps forward and play as Nights. The real game is a 2D score attack game. So right there, I was glad I got Crash Bandicoot instead. But I was also like 9, so maybe I judged it unfairly. Years later the HD version comes out with the Christmas Nights levels and stuff, so I grab that, beat all the levels, and sure the music is nice and the graphics are pretty, but I still don't get the appeal. There aren't that many levels at all, you can beat them all in a couple minutes, and sure, the point is to get high Ranks, and I never got all As or anything, but I just don't get why I'd want to, since I'm not having that much fun when I'm playing. I always feel like I'm missing something with this game, like I'm playing it completely wrong, so I keep trying to go back to it, but I never can figure out how to have fun with it.

I hate to say it, but I'm starting to be convinced that it's a case of people who got suckered into a Saturn still trying to act like their mascot/killer app was as good as Mario 64 or Crash Bandicoot, when really it was a mediocre "art" game that failed to replace the failure of Sonic X-Treme.

If anything they would just make Nights more explicitly female and Reala more explicitly male. That's already how it comes across in the actual game anyway, with only a hint of neutrality. They wouldn't make a feminine hero any more masculine or a masculine villain any more feminine, because it already fits their narrative.

...

You tried getting the 20 blue chips to the Ideya capture as fast as possible? After that, you're free to perform as many tricks and chain through boosting trough as many rings, stars, etc along the way right before you return to the palace when the timer hits zero

Because that's what SEGA does.

You'd think there'd be a lot more porn of NiGHTS given it can be either gender.

wait a minute

Well, Satan, I personally didn't find it that bad. Its more the fact that Sega barely acknowledges the series even exists really.

That damn pinball gave me hope that there would be an updated NiGHTS on the Dreamcast. Pity there wasn't, but at least there's the excellent PC version now.

sega does what nintendon't
:^)

Yes.

Why would you want more games about this gay clown?

NiGHTS was my favorite game growing up.
