When space threads stop being co-opted by fucking weeaboos?

Because Gundam games are a part of space games?

No, they are about giant impractical robots with legs. Not only they are stupid on land, they even more stupid in space, where you don't need those fucking legs. A random combat shuttle cannot be less powerful than a legged machine in fucking space. And yet in that shit anime those metal golems rape everything. Pic related would rape every gundam just as well in more realistic circumstances, and hands may be justified for some engineering or transportation work.
But not fucking legs or heads.

...

Even in science fiction, things cannot be magically superior than other things just because they have different form or look like humans.

Beg to differ

Zeon during the later parts of the original show started pulling more mobile armor out of their ass for cost efficiency, shorter training times and better maneuverability. They lost the war before they could build enough to establish them on the field.

Is Elite Dangerous starting to implode already? According to plebbit the players are starting to lose patience with FD.

Remember the Minovsky reactor caused interference. Battleships would actually use this and dump M particles as they entered combat to reduce the enemy's computer capabilities, devolving most warfare to line of sight ship to ship combat.

MS had that advantage that while larger than manned fighters could also manuver on the spot. Zeon's original idea was to go to earth, use hit and run tactics on major points and win that way. the EFF dragged it on with the EFSF dragging it out even further thus straining Zeon's resource

And because every time they used one of those, it still lost. Frequently with no kill count to its name. The only mobile armors that had any known success were the Big Zam and Elmeth. The Big Zam's weaponry and technology should have been reworked into battleships, seeing as the thing managed to completely massacre the Feddie fleet, as well as having an I-field which would make the increased focus on beam weaponry displayed by mobile suits a weakness against such a weapon. The Elmeth had actual successors in the form of all the New Type weapons.

Enjoy your lack of fuel I guess

There is a huge event happening out in the 29th, I doubt it yet, the only thing I heard was the fags running the 3rd party websites getting pissed off at fdev and went on a "strike" in which fdev already responded to them. I don't even know what this "strike" was about and just heard about it today when it ended.

From what I read FD broke the tools and they wanted support, they got told to fuck off and then went on a strike. ED being unplayable without these tools FD responded quickly so the event on the 29th wouldn't be a ghost town.

The fags bought the 'we'll look at it' bullshit and lost their only bargaining chip by caving in.

I hope this board starts playing Pulsar Lost Colony again
5-6 player coop with some systems management is actually pretty fun, and much easier to organize that PvP multiplayer space games

So, how did that teleportation debate ended up?

...

Newton's third law begs to differ

...

What is STOS?

whew, I fucked up
Sword of the Stars is what I was trying to say

Here's your (you)

wut? which patch?

not a patch
They did something with the CD keys, now the Steam versions all think SotS copies are invalid
Checking out the forums, it's been like that for almost 2 weeks now with Paradox saying "they'll look into it"

...

Huh. I was wondering what was up with that error when i decided to replay it a few days ago.

Yeah, I have no idea what they exactly did that caused this

for multiplayer? or people cant even play the game?

Considering how SoTS 2 is, there is no hope of knowing.

They apparently tried to make the game not need "third party" CD keys anymore.

i wonder if the gog version is fucked too

The game can't be opened at all for Steam, GoG is fine though

Seriously?
Does that mean they tried to remove the "check" for Steam keys? If so that's all sorts of pure retardation

Any of you nigs have a cracked version of EV Nova to share? I feel like removing Polaris again.

Sauce?

As a product of convergent evolution, they sort of did with the Apsalus, which after a fashion could be described as a more rationalized Big Zam; instead of 29 mega particle guns, of which 28 are secondary batteries, it mounts one gigantic mega particle cannon of presumably variable output, and instead of four Minovsky fusion reactors it mounts three. The power output is dubious like most hard numbers in Gundam technical information in my limited experience, but the Zam outputs and presumably takes 140,000 kilowatts, whereas the Apsalus does what it does with only 3,660 kilowatts, either in total or per each reactor totalling 10,980 kilowatts. These numbers were obviously fudged without care, but nonetheless, the Apsalus probably did more with less compared to the Zam just considering its kitbashed desperate construction, and the concept of a rationalized Big Zam pocket mobile armor (capable of melting straight down to Jaburo or otherwise) is a very reasonable one.

Remove the dubious missile-claw chicken legs, replace them with ventral counter-blind spot mega particle & beam guns, mirror those on the dorsal end, boost the lift power of the engine, and possibly flip the hull layout 90 degrees to have a stern-to-bow lengthy profile instead of a wide shouldered one, turning it into effectively a mobile armor sized pocket battleship. This layout would suffer for sheer weight of fire in the front, since the majority of the mega particle guns would now be on the broadside- even if you replace the static barrels with ball turrets to give more convenient firing arcs or funnels to avoid the problem entirely, which would itself lead to a lesser firepower in complicating the generator output to the guns and taking more volume internal and external- but would maybe allow for a more rational layout for the main mega particle gun by making room for a spinally based mounting. That means exceedingly dead capital ships in an instant ala the Jormungandr, rather than a very large number of dead escorts and thrashed capital ships as in the original Big Zam. Furthermore, it would preempt the entire Apsalus line of research by acting as an effective substitute under most circumstances and most probably being able to be retrofitted to a similar output in firepower and in-atmosphere flight capability without being a point defenseless duck of a mobile armor made from spare Zaku parts and mad scientist grit.

You could send it to assist breakthrough operations in major lines, obliterate enemy MS taskforces, raid enemy supply lines & naval yards with impunity, and to generally make life hell for the Earth Federation in space for minimal investiture. It'll probably get Bismarck'd at some point and this probably with 603rd Technical Evaluation Unit levels of tragedy, but since we've already seen what the original Big Zam can do, an improved version that is mass producible would be so cost effective that it wouldn't matter, as you'd have another dozen of them marauding Federation space by then and would eventually be engaging in crippling logistical strikes on Earth itself as the pocket around Brazil closes. It's like a pocket battleship and a U-boat in one, except it punches out actual, conventional battleships like it was swatting flies.

Sage for the off-topic tangent. When are we getting a mobile suit design game set in a simulated One Year War instead of a gunpla fightan game? And to bring things back on topic, what's a good space game with a focus on ship design & industrial management? If it exists, I'm sure you lot would know about it.

I appreciate your autism user.

As for your question, Star Ruler allows you to be pretty autistic with ship designs even if you don't really see it graphically.

Ah, that's a good one I've forgotten, still haven't tried it. I've heard that Star Ruler 2 added some useful things here and there, but fell into the unfortunate habit of streamlining and also happened to use a wonky hex-based shipbuilding system instead of the original circle-based placement. Which is the better of the two overall?

Star Ruler 2 changed enough stuff that it's hard to compare them. SR1 definitely has better shipbuilding with the Galactic Armory mod and I like how free-form it is. SR2 has a fun import/export system and an enjoyable diplomacy system but it's very structured.

The fuck does action and reaction have to do with getting around in a vacuum where there's nothing for those legs to push against?

Is this a multiplayer thing, steam can start the game just fine for me.

I hate the gundam mechs when they're in space. So over-fucking-powererd. Seriously what's the point of having sexy-ass battleships if they can be one-shot by a single mech?

Zieg Zeon.

FINALLY!
SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTANDS!

The same way astronauts rotate around in zero-G without external help: moving their limbs.
The perks to this is with proper control systems you can enable axial control and orientation of any spacecraft without using propellant to move the craft, reducing weight and freeing up the spacecraft to be able to carry other things besides large propellant tanks.

But its far easier and faster, to just use manoeuvring thrusters?
Flailing around with your arms and legs in 0g to turn, takes a lot longer and more effort than using thrusters to do the same, and its not like your space robot won't have fuel for manoeuvring on it any way, or you'd have a much bigger problem in your dogfighting, than simply being unable to turn around.

Not really easier if you have to deal with A. carrying a bunch of propellant and having to manage how much you use and B. having to deal with the fact your mass changes with how much propellant is used making controlling your own ship difficult
Except it doesn't
You're confusing the attitude adjusting thrusters with main thrusters which are supposed to provide acceleration for a spacecraft and are not supposed to maneuver, and these thrusters usually utilize a different fuel than attitude control thrusters. Futhermore we've already been utilizing the same concept in real world spacecraft for decades now, just without arms.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reaction_wheel

The only time I've seen gundam's mechs in space that I thought were cool was whenever they're infiltrating/fighting on a colony.

I mean, I could understand Earth having battleships early on because Zeon was the first to really go mech heavy and effectively, but for Zeon to build them when they know their mechs can oneshot the bridge of a battleship and for Earth to constantly be rebuilding them, well, it just makes no fucking sense.

Yeah I agree, Satan, and I've always wondered why they never slapped I-field generators on their assault carriers. Like that entire part of episode 2 of Unicorn would be completely avoidable had the Nahel Argama been equipped with an I-field generator.

search oni and futa in nhentai

Well to be fair ain aircraft like the Gattle or a EFSF space fighter can do the same with a payload.

It's interesting to play Ghiren's Greed and try to MP the Big Zam, they work great in space with their MAP attack when left on a point. On the ground they get bogged down by most terrtain and it's bets leaving the ground game to Doms and their variants.

mobile suits were originally designed to operate within the confined space of a colony, there is not quite enough airspace within a colony for a tin cod or a saberfish (the main space fighters in gundam before mobile suits or balls were invented) to fly around in without crashing.

the earth federation made the guntank as a tank suited to the colony environment so that if the artificial gravity ever failed it also had limbs to maneuver around with using Active Mass Balance Auto-Control.
a normal tank like the type-61 mbt would become unmaneuverable in zero G.
the zeon forces invented the first true mobile suit, the zaku, as an inner colony fighter and it has been demonstrated to make full use of AMBAC maneuvering for stealth operations where use of thrusters would alert the enemy to their position. among other improvements the zaku 2 added more thrust ability to zakus so that they could compete with space fighters in open space. it has been mentioned in lore that the zakus were so devastating against the federation space force because of their ability to quickly change direction and the tin cods and saberfish fighters were just unable to deal with that level of maneuverability. the ball was invented after the battle of loum as an early answer to that problem with the federation's own mobile suits coming later.

after the first week of the one year war the sides were so littered with space debris that it was quite suicidal to attempt to navigate with high speed fighters and mobile suits became the mainstay with space fighters only being used as escape craft and support in mostly clean space.

after the one year war advancements to mobile suits started with adding even more thrusters in an attempt to achieve the best capabilities of both fighters and MS in a single unit. eventually developing into transformable MS with fighter modes.

...

Why four limbs then? Why not multiple limbs w/a thruster at the end?

they did add extra limbs as the technology was improved
alot of suits use wing binders and other types of extra ambac limbs

And this is where the mecharetardation sets in.
How the fuck is your robot going to move in vacuum without a main thruster you fucking moron?!
And you know what that thing is going to require your robot to have?
PROPELLANT!
And since you are already hauling that shit around for your main engine, and a hell of a lot more than you seen to turn your ship, why not just use some of that?
And using tiny manoeuvring thrusters you can turn your ship faster and more accurately than you can by having it flail its legs around.
On top of that, those legs and their controls are going to be orders of a magnitude more complex and hard to maintain, than a set of fucking thrusters.
Thrusters are so simple, ships have been using them since the fucking 50ies to turn and roll space capsules without computer controls.

Trying to put legs on a ship for the sake of manoeuvring costs more, is a maintenance nightmare, less accurate and will cost your ship more power than using thrusters. There is literally nothing it does better than thrusters, for anything built to move in combat.
And no, a reaction wheel is NOT FUCKING LEGS ON A SPACESHIP! Its just another reason WHY YOU DON'T NEED THOSE FUCKING LEGS.

Reminder to E:D CMDRS
We have a player group called the 8th Imperial Pilots Syndicate which needs influence both in our home system of Wheemez and in our recent expansion to the Nortes system. You can deliver/buy cargo or collect bounties as well as missions to Bradfield station in Wheemez as we own it but for now in Nortes only missions run from our faction contacts there will improve our control.

If you read the edits they got a committed response from Fdev that they will be talked to about upcoming changes and more api work will be done. There was a lot of pressure from the community to bring the tools back up. The Drew Wager event lining up to be the biggest thing to happen in the game since fucking forever. Lots of players are going to be playing so they probably could not shutdown the tools for the whole weekend but it pushed enough on Fdev to get the commitment they wanted.
If Fdev don't hold up to that commitment they'll just shut them down again.

I'll have to consider picking one of the two up, then. Probably 1, although I might consider 2 if the first is too light on relations with the AI.

When're we having another Gihren's Greed thread, anyways? I always like tagging along the rare communal play by posts like the Rules the Waves threads. And yes, I recall how the Big Zam is a mean bastard in space with its line attack, essentially able to hold down entire map lanes on its own against enemy fleets.

And with that tangent, I just realized what we need and what I was attempting to get across with the vaguery of 'MS design game.' We need Rule the Waves: Gundam Edition. I wonder how flexible the engine of Rule the Waves 2 will be? The addition of aircraft would be a nice starting point for three dimensional space combat, you'd think.

Just pirate them, the team dissolved after SR2 didn't sell well.

UCGO it's been so long. Is it still full of crafters on marcos and RNG fighting?

admin fixed everything but there was only 5 players online at any given time so he rolled back the server before he changed it (just to get unbalanced zeta suits back in the game to fuck around with) and now its back to the unbalanced RNG nightmare

if we can get a community again then maybe admin might give a fuck

ucgoserver.com/2017/02/25/ucgo-news-2/
Due to the low number of players left in UCGO there’s no point in further updates to the game. Instead of having UCGO sit here with missing functionality I have decided to revert the game to how it was before the restart a few months ago.

This means everything now works in the game and you will also have the custom colored MS and MS from 0083 and upwards.

They're specifically designed for space combat so I can forgive it more, though I don't like it that any one thing that small can one-shot an entire battleship. I don't like the idea that any one thing at all can one-shot an entire battleship. Besides, Gattle is purpose built for it and uses large missiles, hell Gattle's are like 50% missile and I can believe that dropping a future version of a MOAB on the future version of a battleship would do the trick. But fucking Char can destroy a battleship with a single explosive round from a sniper rifle.

Nothing should ever one-shot a battleship. Mech's OP in space.

Nobody was claiming the mech didn't need a main thruster, autist
A lot less of it, which is the point
Because, again, RCS/attiude control thusters typically use a completely different fuel.
Why do you think it would be flailing and where's your proof?
Prove it.
Prove it
Besides being not only a way to control attitude but to also have manipulators for use in construction and combat in order to carry multiple types of payloads that aren't fixed on the spacecraft.
Nobody claimed it was, learn how to read, faggot.
But it isn't.

Look out for the seeds. MPIs are going in. Don't say I didn't warn you

Not really. Turning and rolling requires only a tiny fraction of the amount of fuel you'd need for a sustained burn of multiple G's. The kind of performance your robot would need to get anywhere in an orbit or a fight.
Your manuvering jets aren't for pushing you along at high speeds, only for spinning you around, hence they use only a fraction of the fuel to produce a fraction of the thrust.

Because without moving your limbs around you won't actually turn in 0g. The entire point of your fucking argument is that this would be better than manoeuvring thrusters. Why are you asking for me to proove the point you are trying to make?
The entire point is to move create leverage by moving part of your mass to generate spin then moving the other way to stop the spin, stupid. The problem is that unless your hands and feet make up the majority of your mass somehow, you are only moving a small percentage of your mass when you do this, thus only generating a small amount of force to spin you. Hence slow. Since you need very precisely applied force to turn and stop your turn without sending you spinning off in the wrong direction, and even the slightest rotation can throw off your aim for all your weapons, this is bad. Hence inaccurate, compared to a computer controlled RCS thruster that can calculate exactly what your need to produce the exact turn you need.
See? Slow, inaccurate and needlessly complex.

Good god, are you really this moronic?
Look, a manoeuvring thruster is just a nozzle and a tank of something pressurised. Its neither complex nor expensive. A robotic leg taking up 10% or more of the machines total weight with multiple joints and just of engines that can throw all that weight around in any kind of useful way, is going to be fairly expensive, a large percentage of the total cost of your craft even, especially compared to the thruster.
And anything all those moving parts in the legs are going to need maintenance.
The thruster is a lot less maintenance intensive since it has almost no moving parts.

Thats what manipulator arms are for. You don't need to spend half your crafts mass on arms and legs to do that.
And here's that giant robot retardation again.
The ranges of any kind of space combat are going to be vast. Like 10.000+km vast. You need any weapon you want to hit the enemy with, to be mounted on hardpoints directly on your mass to minimise any kind of random movements that can throw your aim off. A rifle in the hands of a giant robot would have movement noise from all the motors in the arms, lack of a decent grip, since you are limited to oversized human hands, and so on, none of which applies to a turret or something bolted onto the side of the ship even. So no, your ship wouldn't use an arm or hand to hold a weapon.
If you need to swap loadouts, do what fighterjets do, carry your payload in modular hardpoints can better stabilize the weapon.

You just used it as an example of why legs would be useful on a spaceship. Silly me.
Its just another way to get the same RCS functions on a spaceship you want to produce with a leg, with a fraction of the mass and complexity of the leg, despite adding the exact same function to the ship.

To be blunt, there's a reason NASA hasn't put legs on any of their conceptual designs. Its expensive, overly complex and highly inefficient at what you want it to do.
The only reason to put legs on your spaceship is because you want it to land and walk around with it. A function that is as utterly irrelevant when discussing dedicated space crafts, as aerodynamic streamlining and control surfaces on any wings you may have.
If you want a dedicated spacefighter, use pic related instead of a giant fucking robot.

That was retarded for other reasons, not the least of which being that the easy kills made the fact that Char was being hyped up for doing so look less impressive. Part of the reason the Gundam was a huge deal was because they miniaturized the power of a battleship class weapon onto a MS; I think there was some loss in power, but the beam weaponry was supposed to be a big deal. This would be huge, provided costs were not too high for MS, because this means you can attack with less risk, MS and their pilots instead of an entire battleship crew, and have minimal loss in fire power. This logic is furthered with funnels and the like; decreased risk, minimal loss of offensive power for that exchanged loss of risk except having to deal with Newtypes who are a whole other issue.

However, if a zaku can one shot a battleship, then the increased firepower offered by the Gundam's beam weaponry is kind of unnecessary until further down the line. Unless you are dealing with outdated battleships, they should have defense capabilities greater or on par with mechs fielded by the faction. Greater would be preferable because you could be losing valuable support personnel with the loss of a ship as opposed to just a pilot who might, at most, be an ace.

tl;dr: Gundam is a bit retarded and the constantly retconning shit means that the one year war keeps getting more and more advanced.

My brother bought a Ryzen 5 + RX480 combo a few days ago. He loves space stuff and management.
What games can take advantage of his new, powerful AMD Experience?™
Please help me cure his shit taste

Shekel Citizen

If you could get to human-level articulation, I don't see why mecha couldn't be used as fighter craft.

This statement is nowhere near intense enough in my opinion, but I agree with the sentiment and observations. What I wouldn't give for a(nother) more grounded series of Gundam. I hate to go all 'muh 08th' but really, 08th MS Team (sans love story) and even 0080: War In The Pocket (sans the fact that you could somehow lose track of a Zaku within a colony) are the best of Gundam so far as I'm concerned. But no we got AGE (nice concept ruined by standard Gundam cliches and terrible characters) then Build Fighters (terrible concept [further] ruined by being a pitch to sell Gunpla to Otaku's).

You could do something similar to 08th MS team in space. Minosky particles make all but short range visual contact spotty at best, so setting up something that was set entirely in the ruins of a space colony/old battlefield should work fairly well even with Zeta level tech.

I am a bit of a weeb mechfag, but the ships in Gundam get fucked over way too much for such nice designs. So I would like to see them given their due instead of being glorified punching bags, or just carriers to get the important people, MS pilots, where they need to go.

Were Newtypes just a fancy way of saying Autistic?

Yes

You're a fucking idiot who didn't even understand any of the points that guy made.
You lost all your credibility

No, since Newtypeism is literally anti-autism. Newtypes are able to process empathy with other people at supernatural levels and from massive distances. Autism is a disorder that causes the mind to not process empathy and emotions properly.

Didn't you watch the ending of that show? Newtypes don't exist. Everything the heroes had been doing was a waste of time. They didn't have super powers, it was just figments of their imaginations.

Newtypes sucks anyways, pure humans are better.

Sieg Zeon!

That's all of them though. It's just that sometimes there's a decent bit of story wrapped around it too. It never would have even had a single sequel if it weren't for the kits propping it up. This is why we're already getting hints at another Build Fighters work.

Gundam never ends until Tomino dies or Gaia Gear becomes canon again or something.

Because our /m/ is dead and half/m/ is one of the worst boards on the internet outside of straight image dumping.

No no, the show about the hero's looking for newtypes.
Gundam X

That was the ending of X, idiot

Don't mind me, just doing the exact same thing for a miniscule fraction of the weight and cost, with added redundancy to boot.

What is no momentum bleed off?

Just finished watching Gundam 0079 and just started Gundam Zeta, and I absolutely love it all so far. Which Gundam games should I start with?

Even if you buy into AMBAC as justification for using humanoid spaceships, it's retarded to then use the limbs necessary for maneuvering for mounting weapons onto.
That way you can't even use them for maneuvering when trying to shoot at things.

They should have just strapped some thrusters onto them and called it a day.
If a giant robot man with rockets works well, a giant tank with rockets would work even better.

They did that, it was called the gun tank

AMBAC has the same problem, bruvna. They work by the same principle. Reaction wheels just distill it down to the most efficient form.

Kamille -

Even if it has nothing to do with being a New type, Kamille is 100% definitely autistic, even more so than Amuro

I see the amount of autism in this thread is still at a physical level. Just another step to creating a newtype.

The gun tank isn't a tank, it's a crippled mecha.

Turn-A Gundam is pretty good, one of my favourites alongside MSG. The romances do tend to come outta fucking nowhere though.

and some additional RULES OF NATURE

...

Reaction wheels can't carry fucking bazookas

If you strapped 3-4 reaction wheels and a computer to a bazooka, you'd have a bazooka that can turn any direction without using propellant.

If you strapped a set of thrusters and tanks to that, you'd have a tiny, nimble bazooka drone.

Top tier taste user

Anyone have that one star ruler screencap where an user built a fuck hueg carrier in deep space and pretty much became the super-technological ancient alien race you always see in stories?

Everyone demanding realism in their space games needs to read this:

projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/misconceptions.php
projectrho.com/public_html/rocket/fighter.php

All space strategy/action games are going to be unrealistic in one way or another because actual space is a lot of fucking nothing. Everything from giant robots to massive armadas is a lot more fun to watch and to play than what humans will actually have to do once we get off Earth.

i knew this already
real space battles will likely be fought mostly with missiles at ranges too extreme for the human mind to comprehend
victory will depend on who has the smartest/most missiles and the most countermeasures to deploy
as a pilot your experience will probably be sitting in a gently humming cockpit staring and lights and telemetry flash back and forth, knowing that if you lose you'll probably be dead and vaporized before you can even comprehend what went wrong
unfortunately, while tense and compelling in its own way, it's an experience that will translate poorly to movies and vidya

Stop it user.

My hopes and dreams of being a Marine in Zero-G boarding ships have been crushed every time I look towards the future especially with robots getting better everyday so we most likely wont even get to pilot those ships. But maybe we'll get lucky and that won't happen user, maybe we'll get our chances some day and fight in cool space battles.

Even the missile part is uncertain if mass drivers can hit fast enough speeds. We go all the way to deep space only to end up throwing rocks at each other like monkeys.

Isn't that how history is?

I remember hearing that ships won't explode when destroyed but actually implode on itself. Granted this was way back in public school, so it could very well be complete horseshit.

You must be thinking of submarines. Not much pressure on the outside of a hull in space to crush it.
Or you could be thinking of explosive decompression, which is more or less the exact opposite of imploding.

...

Real space combat is going to suck

They were feddie apologists, it was justified.

They deserved it for being Feddie trash in space

For some reason when you said this the idea of some stealth Zaku's attached to umbilical cords leading from a single stealth mobile suit carrier and fighting as if they were submarines in space popped into my mind.

Not sure if I like that idea or not.

This is an idea I know I'd like.

I'm imagining a Zeon asteroid base that's collided with a colony that had sided with Earth. The major battle is over and now small bands of survivors duke it out against one another.

Are autists psychic?

Life is suffering anons.

How many watts of power do they consume?

Best space game

its better than stellaris?

...

Go back to flipping burgers Feddie.

/m/ has been going through a little boost of activity recently, so it's decent time to post on it.
Of course, it's still much slower than Holla Forums, but it's not so slow that it's getting a post every day or two like it was a few weeks ago.

/m/ isn't dead but it is slow. If you don't post there regularly you don't Respect the Robot.

and whats stopping ECM and electronic warfare packages from being deployed?

Electronic warfare will just end up reverting this.

ECM won't make you harder to detect. Blasting all those extra radiowaves out will do the opposite. They will at most make you harder to hit for radar guided weapons.

May as well echo what this guy said. I just finished Zeta and starting ZZ if only because I'm going through it like a backlog since most of the new anime I'm currently watching is few and far between and wondering what fun Gundam games are out there.

Written as if it a good thing to have to choose between using the weapon on the end of the limb, or to use said limb for maneuvering.

Beats WW1 dogfights and giant men having swordfights in space.

to the user that recommended Planetes, fuck you. that anime rekindled my childish desire to become an astronaut
>tfw I'd gladly do whatever was necessary to go on a historic seven year mission to Jupiter and back
>tfw I'll probably never be able to afford even going to low earth orbit

I'm not sure but I think battleships were rendered obsolete when the Federation's fleet nearly got wiped out at the beginning of the OYW by a relatively small number of mobile suits.
Pretty much why ships developed after that point are just heavily armed carriers. I think. I'm not sure if dedicated carriers exist either

Dedicated carriers did exist user.

Assault Carriers exist, they usually have some heavy armaments too. And they continue to produce other types of ships regardless. They majority of ship designs in Gundam are Battleships and Cruisers.

Got a picture of the Salami sausage?

A few. Gundam's vessels are extremely neglected in art and fanart sadly. This is about it.

Battleships still played an important role and there were dedicated carriers like said on both sides.

G Breaker 3 (PS4/vita)
Rise from the Ashes (Dreamcast)
Blue Destiny games (Saturn)

that's pretty much what happened with M particles though. most weapons became short range wire guided crap because the cost of shielding the onboard electronics would jack up the cost and the weight of the missile.

do those fairdust particles also fuck with powergeneration, or you could just build a souped up laser canon that would give you tens of thousands if not hundreds of thousands of kilometer range for a weapon that would leave its targets no time to dodge or evade shots but could be fired with mechanical stabilisers, ironsights and a telescope.

One of the big pieces of idiocy in the gundam stuff is, if the Mobile suits are such a leap forward in miniaturisation they let you cram a battleship worth of firepower into a suit, why does noone use the same tech on their tanks, to get a tank armed with a cannon as powerful as a beam rifle and gundam style armor, or use that tech on a battleship, to get a ship that still has any suit outgunned by an insane margin while carrying enough gundam armor to be virtually immune to the guns of a single suit.

Also, why the fuck do they all put the single most vital part of the ship up where it can be easily shot by the enemy, instead of hiding it down in the armored center of the ships mass? Do they WANT to get their bridge crews killed or something?

no

The one thing that bothered me the most about Turn-A was how everyone got out of their cockpit all the fucking time.

Did you not see those colony lasers?

Tanks were becoming obsolete even before the war. Mobile suits became the go-to's and tank production pretty much ended. They did make tank mobile suits though. Gundam armor was super expensive. They only made a handful with luna titanium because it was way too expensive and a bitch to repair.

They weren't at war when they were made. They were mostly used for show a decade before an actual war broke out.

...

Not sure why I should care, but reddit butthurt is always welcome.

Anyway, after doing more reading I want a Battletech Space Game.

Or you could do both at the same time, but you already proved you're retarded and can't understand this concept. Also that ship concept is fucking stupid. Modern day radar doesn't even use dishes, dumbass, it uses semi-conductors and wave interference to guide the radar beam. Try looking up AESA radar sometime, faggot.

Considering even a colony laser needs time to charge you're basically just looking for ways to go "ha see it's not that great"

Because MS sized Minovsky reactors was as small as they could get them at the time. Even the Type61MBT is a giant compared to modern tanks. ANd by the time they miniaturized the reactor further (Crossbone vanguard suits and after) tanks and tank like MS where sidelined

Why is a ship's bridge in real life visible? so you can see something that might be tricking sensors and cameras.

The energy output on the average beam rifle is in the range of what you'd need to power a laser. Not every gun you need, needs to have destructive ability of a small nuke.

To let the crew see where the ship is going.
In space, you will be traveling at dozens of kilometers per second relative to anything comming at you. If you can see a ship in front of you with a human eye, its too late to avoid it. All the data you need to manoeuvre your ship, you will get from your sensors, not by looking out the front fucking window.
Further more, modern battleships aren't controlled from the bridges in combat, they have an armoured command station at the guts of the ship they coordinate everything from, specifically to avoid a shot to the bridge killing most of their commanding officers in one shot.

You are arguing in favor of using spaceships shaped like giant super-sentai characters because they can wave their limbs about instead of using maneuvering thrusters of reaction wheels, while crying about something as minor as non-AESA radar.
Try getting some perspective sometime, faggot.

Why is it apparently a bad thing that "reaction wheels can't carry fucking bazookas" when you can just mount them on hard-points of weapons bays on the hull as normal?

English Ghiren's Greed with the additions of Gundam Thunderbolt, Victory Gundam, and Hathaway's Flash when Holla Forums?

Soon

What's the point in arguing about Gundam tech when none of the tech manuals are translated? It's just throwing questions and answers around while the books that actually discuss these things sit in some Jap neets bookshelf far away from a scanner.

Maybe Gundam actually has insanely good justification for everything, maybe it's just as retarded as what the show claims in throwaway lines. Who knows. If you want answers, go ship the manuals and pay a translator, till then there's no actual answers to be had other than guessing by what you see, which is pretty redundant in something so poorly animated laser shots could turn into missiles before hitting their target.

I just wonder if there's a Gundam equivalent of something like "kessel run in 12 parsecs". That's got at least 4 different explanations by now.

This certainly was an interesting weekend for E:D

China sure fucking will, however, when Japan unleashes them in the next Pacific War

I don't even understand how it can be effective in the video games.

...

Guncannon a cute.

(checked)
Well for the most part Super Hitler I just meant that in terms of ground attacks the cannons would be extremely effective. Although I have just learned the original Gundam of 79 fame actually two 60 mm cannons, not 30. For the mass produced Zaku units that werne't as armored, a barrage of close range 60 mm cannons could tear through sensors or even the frame itself with a bit of time and some unlucky piloting on the Zaku itself. Later models aren't really phased against that sort of thing, it may however still damage sensors mind you I've only just started the third series of Mobile Suit Gundam, so I've got a ways In a war against China considering they barely have aircraft carriers running in terms of ground forces such things would be extremely devastating.

Truth be told I just want to see China get hilariously fucked up and finally have even normalfags realize that China is a fucking weak country Especially if they try and pull human wave tactics

You'll have to make do with laughing at North Korea for now.

youtube.com/watch?v=LF2Rf6vBXyw

'the fuck cares about the 30mm canons? Zaku II's standard armament is a machine pistol (ZMP-50D) that has 120mm shells in a 100-drum magazine. I'd rather see how effective those shells are on autofire tbh.

...

Would you be able to explain what happened?

Ohboiherewego.
So the Salome event, tipped to be one of the biggest parts of the Formadine rift (Bermuda triangle in space) plot and the biggest ingame event in Elite:D since the creation of the game. Skip to the reply for the events of the event.

We'll begin with Drew Wager, one of the offical authors for Elite he has written most of the known lore about the current game and is currently writing a book based on the universe called Premonition. The book has been following events ingame and taking the actions of CMDRs into account and this event was to decide the ending of the story and somewhat affect the ingame plot.
The event itself? Organized by Drew Wagar an escort mission, 4 cmdrs who are mirror characters from the book (3 on PC one on Xbone) who are hiding out roughly 800lys from space as fugitives and need to get safely back into the bubble with vital information on the Formadine rift conspiracy. Salome, the ringleader, is marked as a criminal in Imperial space and most die hard Imperialists want her and her associates dead. The original bounty was 5 million credits but later on the forums a single Cmdr put a 1 billion bounty on Salome.

We go back before the day of the event. The Children of Raxxla are the VIPs personal guards but they alone could not protect the VIPs. Elite's engineering expansion allows for ships to be turned into unstoppable beasts, able to tank heavy sustained fire from multiple ships and incinerate a single target in seconds with weapon effects and boosted damage. This meant if a single hostile got into an instance with a VIP they where almost certainty dead. So a group formed from various E:D player groups who wanted to support Salome and prevent any killers getting in. Called the PAC (Premonition Allied Command) they proceed to become the biggest force trying to protect the VIPs. One of the player groups who joined PAC, the Smiling Dog Crew (SDC), a notorious player group of well known and very skilled but unpredictable pvpers. One moment they're out killing unarmed innocents for the LOLS, the next helping to raise awareness of a broken mechanic. SDC where not to be trusted and the heads of PAC knew this.
Focusing on PAC themselves they setup 2 roles, combat pvpers and interdictors/scouts. Knowing that the most serious threats to killing the VIPs would be heavily engineered combat ships with expert pilots, they pretty much refused most from taking on the PVP role. Unless you could best a top pvper in combat you had to resign to the other role. This lead to a large conflict between PAC and the greater E:D community as the PAC setup a rule that anyone within 1000ls of a star with weapons who was not on their list of confirmed combat pilots would be pulled over and brutally murdered. The interdictor pilots, of which most of PAC was made up of, where instructed not to equip weapons as they where deemed unnecessary also raised suspicions.
This meant if you where not a high level pvper you where effectively strongarmed by PAC to not be allowed to help Salome in any sort of combat role, due to the security risks. The subreddit/forums turned into a saltmine for most of the event as CMDRs not in PAC looking to help got shot down by the PVP members. PAC then stated that if you did not bring weapons you would not be shot at or bothered. This only inflamed the fire as many started to believe PAC would turn around and shoot the VIPs without opposition as soon as the event started, as SDC members where involved in the operation and could not be trusted.

When the event started PAC's methods worked, any possible threat was either killed or mass interdicted by the interdictor fleet until they got so frustrated they left. The methods involved meant instances where saturated (soft cap on an instance is 30 players) so only a minority of aggressive players would make it into a VIP's instance and could be pulled over before reaching a VIP.

In the end 3 out of the 4 VIPs made it to their destinations without dying. The ringleader Salome was not so lucky, she was killed by a notorious member of the SDC known for being an absolutely unpredictable cheeky cunt, Cmdr Harry Potter. Many where furious, blaming PAC for allowing SDC to infiltrate their ranks and assisting in Salome's death by removing any possible SDC opposition. What was hilarious however is the information the VIPs had foremost (they are all rumored to be affecting the ingame plot by being alive in other ways) was the location of a set of beacons with information to advance the Formadine rift plot. These beacons ironically where found by accident by a Cmdr 6 hours before the event started so even if all the VIPs died the plot would not have roadblocked as much as expected.

Anyway, as the subreddit and anti PAC players whined and called for a war against PAC members (the majority of being innocent to the controversy) the actual events leading to Salome's death started to became clear and it was not all PAC's doing.
Salome herself had made her enemies' jobs a lot easier, she had been accepting friend requests to anyone who would send her one which meant pretty much anyone could see in the galaxy map her current location. My sources also say she had managed to cook her jump drive and ship meaning she had become a much easier target to disable and kill. At the same time PAC knew not to trust the SDC and had placed measures to ensure the VIPs where not surrounded by just SDC pilots and instead a mix of other more trusted factions. However SDC members supposedly began calling out other PAC pilots as spies and the confusion that ensured was enough to let them push more of their members closer to Salome. When a hole in the defense did open and she was left in an instance without her personal wing security (she had had lots of connection problems throughout the event, Fdev's fault for that one) the first Cmdr to get at her was the infamous Harry Potter. It's suspected that Salome also made herself an easier target in order to make the plot more interesting and the operation not a super easy complete success and this was SDC's original goal the whole time to make the whole narrative of the event much more interesting then it was expected to be. But these are conspiracy level ideas as there is no way of knowing who was in cahoots with who.

Either way when Drew Wager finishes his book the plot is going to be a lot more interesting. Whats important as well is a lot of participating Cmdrs leaned and experienced a big scale event in E:D. This being the first there is hope Fdev was watching and will start working on more in the future.

Fuck Harry Potter the cheeky cunt and
sorry for the wall of text.

That sounds fucking hilarious. Is Elite: Dangerous worth playing? I've got time to spare anyways.

So this Salome character wasn't an npc? Was it just some random person role-playing as her?

So a battle bridge like most ships in Gundam have?

The reason you never see them is because ships are usually at the far back and any MS that slip through are going to fuck them up.

Yes the VIPs for this event where actual players playing by iron-man rules.

This whole event was a first and an oddity for the game. E:D has a reputation for having lots of problems, grindy, poorly implemented multiplayer and new updates often drop the ball on new features and break the game with bugs everywhere. Unless you don't mind a mmo slog and are eager to jump into the player groups (which keep in mind are all in discord chats outside the game, there is no ingame guilds) I would wait to see if Fdev pick up on the success of the event and plan more.

Drew Wager's response.

God bless Harry Potter and his murderous shitposting antics.

120mm is pretty crazy, thinking about it. I also was wrong earlier and it turns out the headcannons are actually "60mm Vulcan's". I guess they mean it's an upscaled version of the 20mm Vulcan cannon, but it's not like the headcannons are much more than a secondary weapon of last resort anyway. Although 60mm cannons would better explain how they would tear through Zaku so easily.

Going to definitely agree with you on wanting to see 120mm on autofire. With 100 round mags, however, it'd firerate would probably be more on par with modern day rifles, rather than say, a Gau-8

Why would you ever not use your battle brdiges if you have them, when you are in battle? That would be the utter height of stupidity.

some ships do, I can remember in the Origin at least there is a scene where the crew is on the battle bridge and they end up being killed by a anti-ship round being shot through

found it

SIEG ZEON

It seems the Gundam mod for Homeworld Remastered is back. Zeon was victorious.

...

Oh shit, are those full 3D models? Not just 2D sprites ripped from GGeneration?

Clearly.

Anyone try the new starsector update?

...

...

you're making me want to rewatch haruhi

I don't know why, if you went through the whole thing half the episodes were the same one done slightly different each time.

Ah, okay. I thought you had an unusual hardon for the Zssa, which does have 30mm headcannons.

Honestly I always thought the headcannons were suppose to be used for anti-infantry purposes. I guess the don't line showing Mobile Suits engaging humans all that often because that would turn them into piles of hamburgers.

...

You mean Bernies?

and the logs Salome died to deliver.

RAGAZZA Log 1 - 31/03/3275
"If you just stumbled across this message, nothing of what I am going to relate will make any sense. My advice? Don't read on, kill this holofac now, don't go looking. You really don't want to be involved, trust me. Just fly on like nothing happened. People will kill you for knowing.
If you found this because you were led here… congratulations, you must be reasonably smart.
I don't know what you were expecting, but this probably isn't it. There's no payoff my friend, there's no money to be made. You haven't won. You may have just made things much worse for yourself. If there is any fame to be had it is what you make of it, maybe some chronicler will immortalise you in the future."

RAGAZZA Log 2 - 31/03/3275
"I put this message in this system for a reason, the old lore will tell you why. I'm not the first and I'm not the last. I'm old now and it will soon be time for another to take my place. Maybe it's her who has led you here. If she's anything like me she'll be one feisty little lady, hope you had fun.
By now you'll have been to the hind-end of space looking for, well… something. Guessing you found it. I make no apology for all your trouble, you decided to go out there, same as me. I don't know what tech you have in the future to make that voyage a little easier, but I spent years following this, trying to unravel it all and so did many others before me.
You weren't alone, suffering that boredom and loneliness in the void. Don't expect any sympathy, no one told you to go. Decide for yourself if you think it was worth it."

RAGAZZA Log 3 - 31/03/3275
"But I figure I owe you some kind of explanation. So here it is.
They've known. They've known for decades, maybe centuries. There's something out there and it's heading this way. Everything you've seen: all the wars, all the investigations, all the abductions. It's their way of getting stuff done, getting things ready, keeping things quiet.
You don't build a fleet of warships for no reason - too many questions get asked. So you manufacture a threat, you start a phony war. You keep the populace amused with any diversion you can think of. You play powers against each other, you boom and bust the markets to tilt the economy. Anything to stop people looking at the real issues."

RAGAZZA Log 4 - 31/03/3275
"Who are they? Don't go thinking this is the Feds or the Imps or even the Alliance, it's way beyond all that. Most of what you think you know isn't true. It's all a fabrication, woven by those who have appointed themselves the protectors of humanity. They've been keeping us all in the dark, hiding the truth, secretly prepping for a confrontation.
If you're unlucky enough to stumble upon a part of it, they simply remove you. A shadowy revolution that decides what to reveal and when."

RAGAZZA Log 5 - 31/03/3275
"But that's not all they've done. They had all manner of contingency plans drawn up over the years. Maybe they had a premonition of failure. If you've got this far you'll have read the old lore, you know there was a conflict with an alien race. Yes them. You know what they were capable of in the past. Who's to say what they could do now?
Our so called protectors thought the core worlds might be overrun. Maybe we might need somewhere else to go. That's what they were looking for out there in the void. Somewhere to flee to, somewhere to run and hide. An Exodus, the Dynasty plan."

RAGAZZA Log 6 - 31/03/3275
"So they sent out ships, lots of ships, looking for earth-like worlds in the far reaches of the galaxy. You know where, you've been there. When they had that data they planned to kill the crews and bury the missions. Some kind of suicide pact. No one was supposed to know. Some of those poor souls managed to survive for a few years it seems, marooned in the blackness but none of them made it home. If you're here you've probably found what was left.
But they didn't tell us plebs about this. No, not a word. They claimed it would cause riots, panic, and confusion if the truth ever came out. Maybe they were right, So they lied, time and again.
But you can't lie for ever, the truth is a dangerous thing."

RAGAZZA Log 7 - 31/03/3275
"I figured someone should know the facts one day. So now you have it. What you do with it is your business. Could be they have let you find this message, maybe the time is right at last. Maybe there is nothing left to hide anymore. I don't know if I've played them, or they've played me.
There's probably one last question burning in your mind. I know I'd be asking it.
How do I know all this?
That's simple. My memory has been shot to pieces, edited by them and by me over the years. But I finally put it back together, most of it anyway. Turns out I was one of them. I was part of it. I helped them do it. Somewhere along the line I had an attack of conscience.
Guess they didn't take too kindly to that. Here's hoping I made a difference…
R."

I wonder if the Gundam Cafe's in Japan serve Bernie themed burger? I know they have burgers but I can't read moonrunes.

Head vulcans are meant for anti-infantry as well as discouraging aircraft and light vehicles.

weird mobile suit but a nice concept of "stick missiles everywhere on the damn suit"

I only ever recall them being used as point-defense against other Mobile Suits. If they show them butchering infantry then I've plum forgotten about it.

I gotta admit it does look pretty nice, the missiles definitely would do some heavy damage. I figured "Last resort" in terms of mobile suit to mobile suit, but as the others here have said they would probably also be heavily effective against infantry and light vehicles (hell with 60 mm may as well say screw it and throw in tanks there as well).

It wasn't really shown that much but in the 079 series of Gundam Amuro uses his Gundam's headcannons to take on various mining bases of Zeon's on Earth. Granted if I recall correctly it was mostly blowing up jeeps and the like when he wasn't blasting whole buildings to pieces with his weapons of choice, but I'm pretty a good portion of those Zeon soldiers got closed casket funerals.

Were there any other games that people found enjoyable? Do most Gundam games end up more on the Playstation consoles? I sort of wanted to try the online game but don't really have the cash at the moment to get a proxy IP setup.

Just about all of them end up on Playstation consoles. The main ones right now are Gundam Breaker 3, which lets you mix and match shit to make your own mobile suits, GGeneration Genesis, which makes turn based strategy out of the UC, and Gundam Versus, which is 2 on 2 fighting involving a ton of series (and it's actually coming to the west).

That's the intent

Also Vulcans vary, gotta remember in the first ep of MSG the vulcans did jack shit to the Jean's Zaku

Most modern Gundam games end up on PS. Good in-cockpit games are Blue Destiny games on Saturn and Rise from the Ashes on Dreamcast, would opt for the JP version since it had a bonus disc where you could unlock the Gundam's beam rifle as a weapon.

G Breaker 3 is fun, would aslo recommend some of the 3rd person Gundam games on PS3 like Lost War Chronicles though those feel samey in how they play since they seem to use the same engine that GBO uses.

There is Gundam Online on PC but that's JP only and not many people like it

I had joined the federation group so I could visit the sol system. Can you not get there if you're with another faction?

I thought the same thing. Near the start I was aligned with the feds cause I thought that's how you ranked up. Turns out all you need to do is just complete mission board missions from fed aligned factions. I left the feds powerplay because I got sick of the interdictions and being hostile in systems. So I just farmed fed rank to rear admiral and am now doing the same for the empire. Now I have all the fed and empire ships/permits except the cutter.

You can't align with any factions in Elite only increase your influence with them so don't worry.

The last update supposedly removed all the harassing powerplay npcs do and they should only jump you now if you're doing something powerplay related. Won't stop powerplay cmdrs though.

Let's not forget the equivalent in wing.

Heavy Arms was my favourite Gundam from Wing. And I'll say it I prefer Leo's over Zaku's (but Zaku's are still fucking great regardless.)

Burn in hell you tasteless fuck. Anything outside of UC is an abominable abortion. The very thought of liking something other than UC is grounds for execution under the Aktion T4. The Zaku is the greatest mobile suit to ever grace your eyes, but you fell in love with a pile of shit Leo. You deserve nothing.

Zaku's should be a form of currency.

Let's hope this event push FD to pull their head out of their ass and create real mechanics and content instead of just slapping an UI over a RNG function. I swear Sandro seems like the most incompetent designer in the industry.

I wish you could just buy the engineer upgrades. Or make it so you need less grind for materials and the outcome not a game of chance.

Best part was someone randomly found them 6 hours before the event, so the whole thing didn't matter.

Nigga it's from a book. Written in the 1980s long before any AESAs were miniaturized enough to fit on a fighter plane, and set in 1995, approximately when the first AESA radar was installed on a jet. The USSR had installed a PESA radar on an interceptor by the time footfall was written, but it was probably some secret squirrel shit at the time.

And if I was going to talk shit on it, I'd start on the fact it's propelled by a bunch of SRBs. IIRC, though, it's just meant to fly straight at an alien mothership in orbit, unload everything at it as quickly as possible, and then either get blown up by ayy lmaos, or burn up on re-entry.

That said, I don't know why they wouldn't just use missiles.

...

oh man, I don't even remember kang gundam.

I respect the right for you too have inferior taste user

The Serpent is a nice suit, the only thing I'd change about it is its leg-torso ratio. Slightly less leg, slightly more torso.

While I don't care much for most of the actual gundams (although I do like Heavyarms "literally made out of missiles" Custom), Wing's grunt suits are almost all top tier. Mercurious, Vayate, and tallgese too.

Even poor neglected Tragos.

Wow, what a bunch of ugly designs.
it's like they simply copy pasted a gundam head onto every object they can think of

What a silly idea.

...

Also technically Thunderbolt is an AU of UC

Why do people do this? It happens IRL where they just start yelling too.

should have pretending to be a girl and see how far he would go

I'm going to need a source to back that up.

user, this is a christian imageboard. Please refrain from such lewdness.

Recently I've not been into any spess vidya. Is the newest elite update worth playing?

Also, I'm currently playing through all Call of Duty campaign and must say that the space intro in CoD Ghosts was pretty impressive and terrifying. Looming over the earth without a floor was scary as shit and falling into the atmosphere was horrifying.
Definitely worth a pirate.

This is a Newtype Cult imageboard, get out of here with your old world hokey religions.

Now hush or I'll start posting the Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphan's diaper doujin.

...

I keep getting the itch to play a good space game that isn't
NEARLY TWENTY FUCKING YEARS OLD
and this is the only one that keeps coming up
Every time it goes on sale I think about it, but someone always talks me out of it. Is this game worth 15 dollars? Is it really as bad as I'm being warned?
Can I play it and have fun with only M/KB?

Did they ever remove that mod who was banning new users for no reason?

Star Citizen

Still sore it took you as long as it did to get past the sad panda? Seriously, what the fuck even is this complaint.

Yes but you may find yourself dropping the game for a while and coming back as they eventually update/add shit and to take a break from the grindy endgame. At the very least the game is def worth 15$ but I wouldn't recommend buying it for more.
Yes, top tier pvp requires M/KB unless you have a super precise joystick.

I have a high tolerance for grind I play fucking Warframe kill me as long as the core gameplay is good. What I was warned about is that space truckin'/mining/etc. is all the exact same shit every time, and only PvP has actual variety, but said PvP is impossible unless I own the DLC and grind out the engineering shit.

I don't know what the engineering system is, but getting one-shot by virtually invincible enemies constantly sounds boring. Is this an exaggeration or is the PvP really that one-sided? Like I said grind isn't a dealbreaker but losing hours/days of progress to 5 seconds of combat might be.

Unless you're facing off against pvp you don't need engineering. I mostly enjoy the qol improvements it brought to the game (increased speed, jump range) and there are plenty of ways for an unmodded trading ship to escape death machines (vid related). Most if not all npc ships are not engineered at all and I think it was modified so only Elite ships use some of the engineer special effect weapons.

When 2.4 hits the game sometime this year it marks the end of the 2.0 season if Fdev aren't completely retarded they're only somewhat retarded I imagine anyone who hasn't bought horizons by at least the time season 3 releases should get season 2 for free. If not it will almost definitely be included in the base game and season 3 will become the paid expansion so if you don't mind waiting you can hold off till then.

Trading and Mining you will find repetitive but there are player run groups which do make exploring more interesting and run other non official shit such as racing or minigames. Exploring can be a bore but it is worth it when you do find something unexpected or a final goal in mind.
That in mind the most interesting playerbase is the pvp player groups and yes you will eventually need to start engineering the shit out of stuff to seriously compete. Although groups like the GCI (Galactic Combat Initiative) do often run unmodded pvp events with set ships or only what you can get at x station etc.

♪hello darkness, my old friend♪

ED's instancin mechanics kill the game for me. When an Eagle interdicts me and then reappear again after a 40 ly jump I can't take the game seriously. Everything is RNG, their background simulation is probably an excel sheet and the game seems to have no design focus. They get their players by default since it is the only game like this out for the moment.

Also they are probably using the cash from ED sales on other projects, seeing the dubious quality of 2.3 the game is basically in maintenance mode now.

Ok guys, i need your help.
Steam sale on star wars games is on and im wondering whether i should get the Rebellion or the Galactic bettlegrounds.

Which should i get?

Pirate both, the original devs are getting fuckall from it anyway.

Lad, those games are old as fuck.
The devs don't even exist anymore. Just scur/v/ them.
I'm pretty most of those even have GOG versions. Steam versions of older games often don't even fucking work.

Pirate them but I spent an ungodly amount of time on Rebellion.

The best players use m/kb, using a flight stick is like using a controller for a shooter.

Aren't newtypes the next step in humanity? If you refuse to evolve you'll fall behind eventually.

I wish I could restore my heavy arms.

Not every evolutionary step is a smart one.
See Pandas.

Do they have some drawback I'm not aware of? Isn't it just a mild case of telepathy and the ability to take robot cock for better piloting?

If everyone became autistic, you think the world would be better?

All of them were autistic?

Pretty much every Newtype protagonist is a bleeding-heart liberal fuck that would rather die than take up arms. It just so happens the plot advances anyway.

Are you sure that isn't a protagonist problem in general?

Amuro laughed at people for thinking that newtypes were the next step in humanity

Nice trips. Also given how far things progress, it would be foolish to assume that the human form has already reached it's stopping point. Psychic powers seem more reasonable than armor plating or extra limbs.

Not really, I wouldn't say most protagonists are like that, it's just Gundam ones are often idiot children that don't understand the situation they're in and try to friendship-and-happiness their way out of a war.

That's probably because most of them are children.

Aldnoah Zero had the same problem with the gary sue protag. The main character should have been the LT with PTSD.

I hear new X3 update fix optimisation. Any anons with new version to confirm that?

I want a Babylon 5 Edition Space Vidya Thread

Perhaps OP will deliver in the next thread.
We've had one before.

The Leo is a solid suit and very modular. I like the design because it's very well designed, all the thrusters are on the legs and the link for backpacks hooks directly into the generator so no external tubing. Considering it was still in use for a solid 20 years and saw action even after the advent of MS like the Virgo and Tauraus

Well I'm glad someone else appreciates the Leo.

Well actually user, Although quite beautiful and powerful the Virgo isn't a mobile suit but a mobile doll and now I'm left wondering if the reason they called it the Virgo was because it never had a pilot inside them before?

Tried to make one for this one but I was too late.

Shadows did nothing wrong.

I'll take that over Build Fighters any day of the week.

Ok, to revive this thread let's get a discussion going. What do you guys think about the Prime Directive? Is necessary? Should the (((Federation))) help low tech civilization if they can? Or maybe even uplift them.

The federation should fucking remove itself. The prime directive makes sense if you care about filthy xenos.
But even if you give a shit about them, there is plenty of reason to occasionally aid them. You shouldn't beam down on non space-faring ones then though. You can't save fucking everything and everyone.

Depending on resources some are more worth saving and intervening.

Not even then. Imagine if tomorrow space aliens land on the lawn of the white house. Now its obvious to everyone that they have the technology to solve world hunger and poverty, practically over night with fusion reactors that can make cheap nigh infinite energy for desalinating salt water, allowing us to cover deserts in farms with plenty of water for irrigation, robots and AI's to do all the work and so on. Their medical tech can probably also cure every know disease with ease with a little work too.
But they aren't going to give us any of their technology, because we aren't "ready for it". They won't help us become ready either. They are just dropping in to say hi because they heard our radio signals.

Would the prime directive still be acceptable in such a situation? Or could we blame them for the death of anyone who died of starvation they could easily have prevented with little to no cost to them? What about the billions who live in poverty?
I'm all for figuring shit out on your own, but if someone else is sitting around looking at you trying to deal with a problem that is costing lives, and is refusing to share the solution, I doubt many of us would think of such a person as ethically or morally just.

No the weird thing about Mobile dolls is they still have cockpits and can be piloted by humans.

I like the Leo a lot because it's probably what we'd see if we had MS tech it's a very streamlined suit built to handle a variety of situations.

Fuck that shit. Annihilate the useless races. Uplift, enslave, and modify the ones that could serve a purpose.

Better to flip them, than to become one, zeek.

Mad that spacenoids are better with earth cuisine than earthnoids are? Even our corpses make better food than anything you grow/make. :^)

At least you can do cook better than winning wars.

And at least you can redraw maps better than you can build Mobile Suits.

Except for the rampant homosexuality faggotshit involving the brown fuccboi.

This. It's morally self-contradictory unless you care about cultural diversity more than preventing death and suffering, and it's impractical because it prevents exploitation of prime worlds.
It makes sense as a plot device and it can be propped up by some fucked up cultural/historical background, but it's about as sensible as having two kinds of space elves.

These problems are more due to humans being shit thanks to greed and warmongering. Giving hyper tech to a civilization still incapable of caring for itself let alone others would be folly. This would apply to any alien species that hasn't matured past the point of dumping food into the ocean rather than feeding itself and actively poisoning it's own population/world.

It's not gay if you pilot Mobile Suits afterward.

Before anyone even asks for sauce don't worry i got this shit.
nhentai.net/g/73794/

But also remember that other than the Virgos those mobile suits were made to be used by humans first and were later converted to mobile dolls

Well at least the writers are having fun with these.

What right does a race of space aliens have to judge another's ways? Should we condemn wolves who eat cute bunnies, for being murderous bastards? Just because they'd starve otherwise is no excuse to go killing.
You would be trying to push your own moral values on others that may simply not be biologically compatible and are happy to let millions if not billions starve for the sake of your own morality.
Maybe if those people you mentioned had the right technology, they wouldn't need to go fishing, thus wouldn't have to depopulate the oceans and throw away all those fish they can't sell?
Maybe if they had the tech for cheap and efficient filters they wouldn't be polluting their planet?
Maybe you could teach those wolves I used as an example earlier to grow synthetic meat so they wouldn't have to eat bunnies to survive?
Perhaps you should get off your high horse and try to actually solve problems rather than sitting around and moralising at others over acting in ways you don't understand.

Is there a space game where you just go out there living the dream, banging hot xeno chicks and spreading your seed across the galaxy?

Mass Effect 1 and 2.

...

fuck off Holla Forums

...

but you just did

...

is it possible to change the eye bleeding neon orange hud colors without somehow fucking up every npc portrait in the game yet?

yes here is a list of hud colours that don't fuck up everything else.
forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/259311-NO2O!-The-Definitive-List-of-1-7-2-2-Compatible-HUD-Colour-Color-Configs-(please-add-yours!)

Or you could look at it pragmatically in the sense that giving technology could turn these violent barbarians into an actual threat to you and your own. Perhaps you should look at history and see that people bite the hands that feed them all the time and I see no reason why it wouldn't magically stop being that way with aliums.

And leaving them to starvation and poverty while you and they both know you could end both practically over night, is a surefire way to get them to like you instead…
I don't suppose you've considered the possibility of demanding changes to their societal structure, possibly as a member state of your interstellar empire, in return for the tech? Or you could just rely on your superior numbers and technology, as a species who has been spacefaring longer than these savages, to keep them in line…

Freespace: 1985 edition.

Fuck this game.

Burner missions a shit anyways.
why are you even doing missions in the first place?

I wonder, does EYE count as spess vidya?
It is set in a future where humans are space farin and several levels are set on extra-terrestrial planets.

I fucked up and joined FW too early, now I'm waiting for my frig level to hit 5. I only joined to learn how to pvp, how fights go, how to fly manually and all that so I could defend myself better when I am doing exploration. And well I have learned a lot already, my Astero is more or less trapped in jita.

So fuck.

do decent leo kits exist yet or what the fuck

same for tequila gundam, it deserves a kit

Yes. Discontinued ages ago so far as I know.

No. Never an official kit so far as I know.

It's a good way to avoid the cops I guess.

has anyone played x3 albion prelude? just wondering, since i saw there's a star wars mod for it and it looks quite fun.

Exactly. If you want the robot to power up, you gotta post for it.

Some anons are saying its getting corrupted by goons, there is one faggot that is uploading shitty quality comics and making the mods delete high quality ones, because reasons, be on the safe side and download all the shit you give a fuck about.

Nah, its more like a science fiction game

Oh everything's corrupted by goons according to Holla Forums recently.

You're a goon. I'm a goon. They're a goon. We're all goons. Unless we agree with someone entirely we're the epitome of what they don't like; be it goon, sjw, leftypol, etc and so fourth. That's modern people, Holla Forums or not. The reason the high quality uploads are being deleted are due to C&D threats from what I've been told. Everything bad that happens though is naturally the fault of people we all generally hate however, so whatever.

The only thing I know for sure is Sieg Zeon.

Why does 8ch recompress .jpgs? It fucked up the color profile on my image.

are you sure it's not just the thumbnail?

Space is NOT a complete vacuum you autistic nigger. Are you 3? Or just simply a cum?

What makes people suspicious is that the LQ versions of the scans uploaded by a specific user aren't taken down.
also zeon a shit

It's not all that surprising, lower quality will prompt people to find a better source and that might lead to buying it, especially if they start pulling this shit on other websites. That, or lower quality can fool their search algorithms. Not all that suspicious at all. Hell, that user might be an admin using a common account to reupload the stuff they've being forced to take down.

t. feddiecuck

The only thing that wins wars for you guys are spacenoid pacifist deus ex autisima's who pilot gundams. Earth a shit. Earth military a shit. Earth tech a shit. Earthnoid a shit. Zeon losing the war to spacenoids and colony-developed weapons at least proves the superiority of spacenoids. Enjoy your upcoming annual colony drop.

SIEG ZEON!

The interplanetary medium is the next best thing to hard vacuum. Your useless robot won't be able to push against it or be able to create wind drag enough to affect its momentum to any measurable degree unless you meassure milimeters on a scale of millions of years.
That you are so idiotic you think is a valid point only highlights how utterly retarded and autistic you are.
While the interstellar medium isn't, in a strictly technical sense, absolute vacuum, it is one in any practical sense, as far as ships or robots travelling through it is concerned. Adding arms and legs to your spacecraft does not change this.

I clicked between both fullscreen in separate tabs in my browser and saw no difference.

Yeah it's just my browser being gay. They look different at full res but when I resave it they're the same again.

...

...

Seeing R34 I can't get seeing those used as dildos.

...

Why is it being a proper newtype or Zeon loyalist always seems to end up with you dropping your own citizens and the infrastructure required for your own survival in space, on top of feddie cities?
Do you put something in your drinking water that induces an uncontrollable desire to murder your own citizens or something?

FOR THE REPUBLIC!

God i love Empire at war.

...

They are never Zeon citizens, they're citizens of those colonies and/or of earth.

There are like hundreds of colonies, any one isn't vital to the survival of others.

It's an improvement.

Independence is our antidrug.

I thought the one of the colony drops had citizens of Zeon but they were sympathetic to Federation forces so the more militaristic Zeon decided to night of the long knives them into earth to use them as an example.

Night of Long Knives analogue was long before that. Degwin purged any and all Deikun loyalists shortly after Deikun's death.

Ah, the "I get to decide what everyone in space wants, and any who disagree will be dropped into the nearest gravity well as a bomb on my enemies" school of looking out for the interests of your own people.

New thread when?
