It's on par with the rest of the games on Vita which means it's bad but doesn't make it unplayable. Obviously it's the worst possible version but it was the only one I could get at the time and there was no concrete info at the time that EV would come to PC (even if it was highly likely). It's shame because I think the Vita is the perfect way to play a game like this but obviously the technical limitations drag it down so much that it basically takes all of that away. said it well, I almost regret buying it.

New characters tend to have their own "girls story" or solo campaign sometimes they unlock hairstyles for all characters as well as clothing options.
Clothes come with multiple pallet swaps.

And they tend to go on sale.

But important note: there is already more then enough characters, clothes, and accessories to justify never touching DLC

I played SV when the PC port came out and was mildly entertained but the lack of difficulty was a huge issue for me, was this addressed at all in EV?

Senran has basically no male characters and probably most of the female cast would be scissors already if the standard otaku rules for keeping waifus "available" didn't apply. There's no doubt some of them are all but confirmed to want to muff-dive another member of the cast and typically the only reason they don't is for the sake of status quo.

Glad Valkyrie Drive doesn't have to worry about that. Now it just needs better gameplay in constant 60fps and good doujins.

I wanted Valkyrie Drive to be way better than it ended up being. However, both the anime and game disappointed me. The Anime fell on its face at the end and didn't really deliver on the initial premise. The game majorly fucked up by making all Exters and Liberators modular, so rather than developing specific relationships, everyone is the damn same and the same tame, boring animations precede everyone's drive. I would have vastly preferred each pair to be set and instead give them unique animations. It doesn't help that the anime and game are vastly different on what it takes to create a drive, with the anime basically requiring an orgasm and the game being vague hand holding leading up to an extremely basic, caste kiss.

This really pisses me off because VD wasn't stuck on a region locked system, and even now that Nintendo finally fucking drops region locking on the Switch, they make the system an affront to god in pretty much every other way. Let's all keep our fingers crossed that SK3 doesn't end up on the Switch.

Giving each possible pairing and their reverse a specific moveset would likely have been out of the game's budget, especially since they wasted resources on the shitty anime and mobile game. It would have been nice to have that, but at least the game did manage to make pairings feel different through the stats. The difference between having someone like Ranka or Manpuku be your exter compared to someone like Mana or Koharu was definitely noticeable.
Also, I think they did develop the relationships between all the girls just fine. It's just that the development between some girls only shows up in the minor scenes like the one where Ranka asks Viola if the carpets match the drapes or the one where Koharu says Momo motivates her to become stronger. In fact, this is something I feel VD did way better than Senran due to the much smaller cast, which ended up being a plus in that it allowed each girl and each pair of girls to have their moments unlike in Estival where there were officially too many girls to care about the new ones.

The Vita titles, Shinovi and Estival, are Musou-esque, while the 3DS titles, Burst and Shinku, are more beat-em-up ish.

The phantom system would need to be reworked, too. It was great at rewarding aggressive play, but it made the player focus too long on juggling an enemy that was dead six times over before you're halfway to 50% damage boost.

Starting would be best with the 3DS games, but unless you have one of those, you can start with Shinovi Versus.
Boss fights are duels, but to get there you have to mow down dozens of lesser ninjas. In the 3DS games, those would be beat em ups, in the PS titles, it would be a musou.

That's a problem with SK too, where you can keep juggling a corpse to get scrolls. Still, the times makes it even more important to juggle the fallen I guess.

In terms of plot, more or less. Most of SV's plot was tossed out the window since it went VN style with the factions and their routes. You'll miss out on a lot of character development, though. The Hanzou and Crimson girls get ignored so bad in EV that there's a post game mission where Asuka is mad about how little screen time she got even though she's supposed to be the main character of the series.

Either pair would fuck up problems with another island anyways as powerful as they are. It's not that I don't like them, it'd just be a perfect opportunity to introduce new Valkyries while eventually tying into the larger plot to see the older ones again.

And for the most obvious reason you can't have Ranka without Rinka.

Start with Burst if you have a 3ds. Then go to either Deep Crimson on the 3ds or Shinovi Versus on the PC/Vita. Both are sequels to Burst but are separate continuities, neither one will spoil the story for the other because they contradict each other. Estival Versus is a sequel to Shinovi Versus. The Versus games are musou, the 3ds games are beat-em-up. Skip Bon Appetit, it's a crappy rhythm game.

If you don't have a 3ds, you can start with Shinovi Versus. Don't start with Estival, its story expects you to already know the characters pretty well.

I'd say only do Burst if you have an N3DS with Luma3DS set up. It runs godawful to the point I get sick playing it otherwise.

If it weren't for the framerate I'd almost be willing to argue that Burst is the best in the series. I don't care as much for the Versus series' musou lite stylings, SK2 strikes the best overall balance in the series but mechanically it's probably the easiest one to cheese, and none of them are quite as strong as Burst in terms of characterization and perhaps even storyline. But yeah, the game does run like ass which holds it back considerably.

Shinovi Versus actually takes place after SK2, despite being released beforehand. But it still doesn't spoil anything because of this, it just hints at certain events.
Anyway, as always play release order, even if that kinda screws with the timeline,
Burst -> Shinovi -> SK2 -> Estival
It is worth noting that Burst -> SK2 have their own somewhat continuous plot and so do Shinovi -> Estival. However Burst and Shinovi are much more focused on introducing and developing the new characters while SK2 and Estival tell their stories as if you already know the characters really well.
these games actually have really well developed and interesting characters, that's why everyone in these threads can have a different waifu. It's worth investing the time to play all 4 games just for that.

Mirai is actually sixteen in the Versus timeline. Just nitpicking since their birthdays are only months apart.

So after a couple hours, I'm pleased with the game. It's pretty fast paced, like EDF or something. The one story route I've played was on note with the rest of the series, complete with a bittersweet ending, but I doubt this game is as story-driven as even Estival Versus was. There are 4 story routes open to you after the tutorial, and some paradise episodes as well. Some paradise episodes are locked. There's also what seems to be a grand prix mode where you have to win several matches in a row for additional rewards.

All character progression is handled through cards like a mobile game. Missions will drop card packs depending on their difficulty. If you find a card you have already obtained, you get points you can spend on leveling up your character, weapons, and cards.

The ranking system is much less complicated than EV; now there are just letter grades through S based on time and the amount of damage taken.

There's a decent variety of costumes and swimsuits to start with, but not a whole lot more than each character's signature outfits. The costumes that are there like the Hanzou Academy uniform get wet and become semitransparent. There are no longer any pasties, at least in the dressing room (shower room now). When choosing what's below the character's clothes it shows their default bra type.

Head patting is added to the skinship feature.

I haven't destroyed any clothing, but I think if you wear actual clothes instead of a swimsuit, it would happen if you got hit with an attack that knocks you back (you can recover from these mid air with L2). These attacks have a similar animation as in Estival Versus.

After downing an enemy by reducing their HP to zero, if you press square next to them you enter a minigame where you can fire at their breasts or butt/pelvis to knock off their swimsuit, which removes them from the game. If your teammate is downed in this fashion, you can hold square for a few seconds to revive them with full health.

I saved some recordings on PS4, but I probably won't have the time to convert them until later this week. I probably shouldn't have been playing in the first place; I'll have to work the rest of the night to catch up for tomorrow.
