I liked Skyward Sword. The overworld reminded me more of the 2D games like Link's Awakening, and the swordplay actually felt like you were controlling it unlike the 5 years of Wii games preceding it.

Too bad Nintendo pushed out motion controls before they could be anything better than an IR pointer and waggle, because 1:1 movement with the Motion+ could have been good if the Wii didn't sour everyone's perception of motion controls in general.

The game starts with a young Link waking up in some emergency with an old Link providing him with the tools and hints to get through the tutorial section while young Link does basic tasks to assist. Magic happens. Then, at the end of the game, you play as the old Link who wakes up a young version of himself and does all the hard shit slaying boss mobs while on fire while an AI young Link does all the easy shit off in the sidelines. To get the good ending you need to break the time loop somehow. Plot twist: The name of the "old Link" is based off of the previous save file that finished the game, if there is one, allowing you to carry your legacy over.
