Yeah, it's a Japanese made RPG. While there's certainly a stereotype to JRPGs all being a particular way, the "J" more or less just characterizes the region that made it; there's other appendings you can put on "RPG" to further describe ones themes, mechanics, and/or influences.

And I really don't like how easily your characters can get juggled to critical health. I played some of IV on the DS. Seemed pretty decent, but for some reason I set it aside around the flame tower. I do remember the hellhounds or whatever having some obnoxious full party attack that did a shitload of damage and they were quite fast enemies. Still, the OST was pretty good, though I hear that's usually a given for Final Fantasy.

Easier to use existing characters than make new ones user. If you make original ones you have to animate a ton of frames by hand.

shooting stars is a big shot at range but a bunch of little punches at close

learn alchemy first so you can get star rubys from iron and break the bank, then do more crafting to make sweat weapons and armor
you should be set for gear early game if you craft well, also part of the appeal was pressing SQUARE outside towns and wandering alone while your party did their own shit as well

It's pretty sad when the least shit parts of that arc were off screen. I especially feel bad for any Tatara fans because Ishida just butchered the fuck out of that character. Anything to do with Mutsuki that arc had terrible writing and asspull power ups too. I would love this new arc to shake things up a bit, but it's been so long since the manga was actually good quality that I'm not holding my breath.
