Kirby Thread

What's your favorite Kirby game?
What's the best Kirby ability?

What's Jewtendo gonna do with this adorable pink thing next?

Beetle Kirby is best ability

fighter or sword

return to gay

they might do an anime instead

Kirby Air Ride

Throw I just do down attack in midair the whole time during bosses. Throwing stars is fun

ruin it

HAMMER ALL DAY EVERY DAY

probably see some kirby runner for ios after the switch fails to launch

Robobot is on point

Always hammer

Continue to milk the admittedly good engine they've been using for the last three games.

Would you cuddle Kirby?

Planet Robobot
Hammer for days
Kirby Air Ride 2?
Full 3D Kirby based on that minigame from Robobot?
Another spinoff?

A lot of you guys seemed to really enjoy Robobot. I did as well, but made the terrible mistake of playing it BEFORE playing Triple Deluxe.

An anime? What makes you think that?

of course
no homo

which one?

Favorite will always be Super Star. Through Nightmare in Dreamland gets an honorable mention for nestolgia.
Umbrella in most games but leaf OP in Return to Dreamland for Wii. Becoming an untouchable pile of leaves, waiting paciently. Nintendo should make more pop up Kirby cafe with $30 pancakes.

Full 3D Kirbeh when?

Kirby 3D Rumble, obviously

there'd be no fun in it if they made it a common gig. I wanted some of those pancakes so bad. Trip to Japan NEVER EVER

oh that one. I could see that as being some sort of eshop release thing, if they did make a separate spinoff. I don't really see the potential of it being a full game honestly.

Also, on the topic of HAL, I was on the Freeshop the other day and wanted a puzzle game to replace picross. It was between that weird block guy game and Picross 3D 2. I picked Picross 3D 2 without realizing HAL developed it, and I only realized after I heard a song that was a lot like the circus music from Triple Deluxe. There's only one song in all of Picross 3D 2 I don't like, and it's more generic than bad. So if you want a comfy puzzle game to pirate, I recommend that. At least listen to the soundtrack, I can try to dig it up on youtube if anybody wants.

Think of the possibility, user.

That would make every enemy even easier to avoid. At least in 2D they're often in the same plane as you, in 3D a lot of them would end up like 3D Goombas. Although, it's not like Waddle Dees are aggressive in the new games, they're intentionally made to fuck Kirby over on accident. I guess it might be worth looking into, but from what I remember of the bosses in Rumble I'm not confident in HAL to make any thing challenging, especially not in a Kirby game.

A full 3D Kirby would have to re-think a lot of major gameplay elements, just as Mario and Zelda did.
Miyamoto decided Super Mario 64 was fun even if you were just walking around, even if the enemies weren't really aggressive, even if your jumps didn't have to be precise. So he just let Mario 64 be something that 2D Mario wasn't, since it was still fun. It effectively was something less challenging than its 2D predecessors, and more about collecting (stars) than clearing new stages one by one. Given Kirby was one of the earlier games to introduce a % complete display, and Kirby is meant to be a more simple game that anyone can beat, this approach might be more fitting for Kirby, in a sense, even if it does lower the difficulty of the game.
Zelda 64, on the other hand, took the simplistic button-spam combat and made things much more complex, which was mostly a good thing imo.

Kirby in its current form probably has just the right amount of complexity, so I think it would mainly be a matter of translating Kirby and the various enemies into 3D while trying to maintain that difficulty. Making sure there are a number of more aggressive enemies for more difficult levels ought to suffice.

But yeah, HAL probably won't pull that sort of thing off after spending 10 years or so experimenting with Kirby (including a more full-3D thing that inspired rumble) and generally failing at it.

The main problem I think will come about is that Kirby is made to be the most entry level game Nintendo has. Moreso than Mario or Zelda. The problem there is that they can't bog it down with difficult controls. Aside from the shield and dropping powers, you can pretty much do anything in Kirby with A, B and some sort of directional input. Adding a camera on to that only complicates things, Nintendo has been trying to remove camera control from Mario through this line of reasoning.

Yep, which is why whatever they do would have to have fully automated camera controls. Something like what Super Mario 3D World did in terms of camera work.

3D World was generally a fixed viewpoint camera, but had a lot of manual camera control as well (as in, 'if player is standing in this area, move camera to look at player from this new angle). That kind of hand-made camera movement isn't a hard requirement for that sort of game though. You can just keep it generally fixed at a certain angle/height/distance from the player.
Mario&co. can't fly, but they were climbing up walls all the time in 3D World thanks to that cat ability. So that sort of camera ought to work just as well for Kirby.

You're right. That open world Great Cave Offensive idea the other guy was talking about is unlikely, but I can see either a normal Kirby game or a sort of hack-and-slash-ish Kirby game in that style. Probably not a stylish action game, but if anyone but Platinum could do it it's HAL.

Tie between Robobot and Superstar Ultra

Spear, Suplex, Hammer, Jet

Going by Robobot's general patterns? They're on their way to a full-fledged 3D Kirby, and/or are on the cusp of reintroducing animal buddies. Robobot armor was basically an animal buddy.

Super Star.
Always loved mirror. Yoyo too.
Considering the current state of Nintendo, I wouldn't be surprised if he got abandoned.

Would tenderly love.

I wanna fuck him

Normally I would disagree, but OP's last pic is making me feel things.

Sectonia porn in 3…2…1…

Beetle is objectively the best ability, because Suplex was my favorite in NiD, and it just got an upgrade through Beetle. Plus, it's my favorite bug.

Beetle's a freakish combination of Suplex, Sword and Stone, it can do pretty well everything but light fuses. No wonder it didn't return for Robobot even though the ability's freakin awesome tfw no Beetle mech

Kirby's Dream Land 3/64, they are always a great game to play when you have a bad mood.

Suplex, it's so damn satisfying beating the shit out of cute things.

Never revisit Shinichi Shimomura's version of the Kirby universe ever again.

a beetle mech would be bad-ass

Mechs for most powers in general beyond the handful available in Robobot would be badass, I was wanting to see a Hammer mech or a Spear mech like nobody's business.

Air Ride (fuck you Hal Labs I hate you so fucking much god fucking damn it make another one already and don't casualize it even more than it already is)
Bomb Kirby
Prolly more e-z games in 2.5 D since it's cheaper on them.

...

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if HAL is just a dedicated Kirby-pumping machine at this point. Have you seen BoxBoy? I had only heard of the game from a direct once, and it kind of told me everything I needed to know about HAL. They don't seem to have much in the creativity department since Sakurai left, but then again, there's already a third game for that in development. Is that series any good? Does the level design make for something worth playing?

My friend played it, it's just a simple puzzle platformer with an okay concept. Not really worth three games, but this is supposed to be the last one so I can't complain

im not terribly familiar with the newer abilities, i wanted to like leaf but the damage just isnt there.
my favorite will always be plasma though. just look at that badass full charge pose!

actually i cant find a good image of it, so heres plasma from mystical ninja 64 STARRING GOEMON

PERFECTLY
ROUND

Now I just want another Robobot game.

never heard of it before user.

are these from kekeflipnote?

My nigga.
And on the newer games it's combined with spark so you can shoot enormous balls of energy with some other handy moves on your arsenal.
See embed related at 07:44

fucking sweet. that reminds me of spark+coo(owl)

im disappointed at all of you

Shit, everyone got distracted by the boobs under your dubs.

The worst dubs are those that go unchecked.

speaking of unchecked dubs

YOU HAVE TO STOP

This isn't ok.

what are you on about?

Kirby is a shota

Dedede hates Kirby at first and you can clearly see a size difference in girls.

Would be improved by making Kirby a loli.

I guess I can concede that one? But that image is rule 63, and she isn't a loli there. Fem DDD is total milf though.

DDD is just a big girl

B U E N O

Poyu

...

...

G-guys you're supposed to discuss Kirby.

i was trying to figure out the reference there. Thanks B1

Oh but we are user~

>that sucking power between BOTH GIRLS

(checked)

I was thinking more along the lines of simultaneous breastfeeding.

oh, that'd be hot too

TELL ME ABOUT DEDEDE
WHY DOES HE WEAR THE MASK?

Kirby's adventure in dreamland is objectively the best kirby game

Kirby's air ride comes second

He gets it.

don't suppose there's a kirby game collection somewhere to download?

...

no it's the "A Talking Cat" house

You have it flipped. The fujo sports boom is just beginning. They won't bite for just shounen sports like All Out and Days anymore.

I want all of them

i've got a cx frame built as a touring bike does that make me a CX-fred ?

I need to fuck me that there DeDeDe

Didn't this game lock the UFO power behind amiibos? I skipped buying it because I can't stand this sort of kikery.

3

You can still get it in secret rooms, I think?
I've gotten the Smash power up there without having the Kirby amiibo.

zzzz….

I wan 2 fug that dedede

Why do people hate Squeak Squad, but love Amazing Mirror, when SS is basically a direct sequel/the same game, just without the metroidvania stuff?

beats me. I wasn't such a huge fan of the Metroidvania in a Kirby game though, honestly. I prefer SS over AM though Nightmare in Dreamland will always be my favorite, more or less because muh nostalgia.

same

Squeak Squad was pretty bland on the whole. Not as memorable or generally interesting even though Animal was a pretty bitchin' ability and it brought back a couple things that hadn't shown up since Superstar like Ninja.

Even for a kirby game it was way too simplistic.

Bullshit, it's not any more simplfiied then the other games in that style (nightmare/amazing mirror), and it's way less simple then return to dreamland/triple deluxe/I assume robobot

Level design wasn't interesting and even for Kirby it was braindead easy.

Except it's really not, and Return to dreamland/triple deluxe/robobot I assume are way fucking easier.

Oh believe you me user Squeak Squad is so easy it's staggering. Easier than Amazing Mirror by far.

You'd be wrong, Triple Deluxe had pretty good bosses on the whole and Pyribbit in particular's especially a cunt, though I'd rank TD with SS on blandness in general level themeing myself. Robobot's are easier but make use of a Kirby 64-like donut arena for several bosses and its level themes and design are generally better.

Didn't get to play too much of RtDL but it was decently easy from what I played of it, especially taking ultra abilities into account.
