A lot of honestly has to do with testing to see whether or not making a brand new game of a series is warranted or if it's purely nostalgia blinding a lot of people. Sure, Crash remakes look fine and dandy, but I'm certainly not going to to go out of my way to get it, and even if they did make a brand new one, I'm not entirely sure most developers these days understand why games like that were fun.

Recall how they're constantly pumping millions into their games and raising their sales expectations immensely - Dead Space 3 needing to sell 5 million and failing, nu Tomb Raider selling 3.9 million yet under-performing, FFXIV needing to sell 10 MILLION to succeed. The budgeting for games is being horribly inflated by all the marketing and focus testing that the suggestion of making a modest-sized game that doesn't pump out any sequels is ludicrous.
These remasters provide a cheap and lazy way for companies to get more money by doing little and allows to keep pumping money into their AAA failures.

Too bad the game doesnt play like shit, just has shit characters, shit story, shit themes, shit motifs, shit missions/side missions/ shit open world ,shit driving, shit physics and some of the worst writing in video games. the whole time, you are told these characters are in the right, when they are all assholes.
