Here's my pick. Absolutely abysmal game. So many things happen out of "realism".
Games you wish weren't shit because the main idea was good

I really wish Recore wasn't trash. Vidya has lacked a good TPS for the past like 8 years.
edf is good but it doesn't count
Borderlands for the most part has a pretty great looking universe before the writing kills it.
spess marine and dead space are good TPS
Borderlands.
Shadow the Hedgehog.
DmC: Devil May City.
Really? Whenever I asked about Spess Marine I was told it was just a low quality God of War clone. Guess I should give it a shot.
Spess Marine isn't that good of a game user, but if you enjoy spess marines then it'll probably be enjoyable
I know jack about Space Marines or 40k
I find it odd how the genre's pretty much only used by AAA hacks to shit out the most sterile games they could think of. I tried looking around in indie circles and jap vidya and besides EDF I don't think I've found any TPS games. Why?
God, you can do nearly nothing on superpower 2. and i cant even find the first game to try that one again.
Sounds awesome, right? It's one of the most mediocre games I've ever played and drowns in shitty, shonen anime cliches. What's worse, all Tri-Ace had to do to give us a fairly good game was copy and paste PSO2's mechanics and give us a halfway decent survival story. Instead, they added a lot of poorly done Monster Hunter elements, took out half the classes in the game and fed the base classes their weapons, and then added their own donut steel class that really served no purpose outside of native access to all weapons and techs. It's one of the worst looking games on the Vita due to ultra excessive use of the blur filter, a mistake that didn't even let the game keep a solid 30 fps in combat against large enemies. The icing on the cake? Ad hoc multiplayer only to not compete with PSO2 in that regard. Not that they even needed to bother when PSO2 is that much better.
because TPS is THE go to genre for lazy cash grab. It is the easiest to make and easiest to shoehorn almost any mechanic into to make "original". The nips don't really care for shooters AFAIK, except I think CoD and overwatch sold pretty well there so I don't know.
Is that Victoria III?
...
stop reminding me how fucking awful PS has become.
Space Marine is great, you heretical faggot!
Thank you for correcting the record
Nice retort, I bet he's really feeling the Bern!
I wanted to love that game so bad as a kid, it was the very first time I had ever seen a grand strategy game.
Too bad it continues to be a buggy pile a shit, I even bought it when they put the "updated" version on Steam.
When its released in 2030, Star Citizen.
Destiny, Watch Dogs, No Man's Sky, Battlefront, The Division, etc. There's just to many.
40k is a bad meme that needed to die 15 years ago.
THATS XCOM BABY
I was thinking about it the other day, and that game could have been so much better if it was about you as a normal person during the first couple days of the infection. Then you crank up the survival and make the world more brutal and unforgiving, have stuff like waving a gun at a dude to get them to back off so you can get some supplies for your group, looting stores and whatnot, and using the cover to cover stuff to be stealthy and sneaky.
If they hadn't gone with generic 3rd person cover shooter with gadgets, it could have been real good.
man, I wish Space Marine was good.
Just adding multiple campaigns would have gone a long way in that regard, like a Space Hulk section. As it is? The campaign has you fight Orks for 75% then gives you demons to fight at the end.
There are a lot of huge areas where you either fight nobody or just fight a couple of Orks, too, it doesn't feel finished.
I thought it was really fun despite the flaws. I liked Dante's Inferno a whole lot too
Multiple campaigns the way Republic Commando did it would've greatly improved the game. Have us face increasingly more dangerous varieties of xenos and culminate it all with some chaos marines. Instead all we get is various flavours of orks, none of which are particularly tough, and then some chaos and daemons at the end. It feels very rushed indeed.
I still like it, though. It's the only proper Space Marine game that isn't a strategy game.
Vanquish and Max Payne 1/2, but that's all I got.
I did hear Binary Domain was neat but it looks like a cover shooter unlike the two I listed. The reason it's so popular for shitty AAA garbage is that they require no skill since you don't have to dodge bullets or even move while aiming, you just sit behind cover, line up headshots, and pop out to get one whenever you feel like it. They're pretty much just whackamole.
This so fucking much
Holla Forums likes to meme about how X or Y game is shit, when in reality "shit" to Holla Forums just means "not amazing", but Legendary was ACTUALLY shit and it's a shame because the concept is so refeshing
None of those (with the possibly exception of NMS) are actually shit though. Those are all at worst 7/10 games
Sorry m8 but it wasn't great. It was a generic game that made killing orks tediously boring.
I thought Holla Forums treats Legendary as a hidden unpolished gem that's worth at least a playthrough
I thought Space Marine was bad until I played Eternal Crusade. They found a way to do worse in every way.
Sad thing is that the Alpha of Space Marine would have been Dark Souls before Dark Souls was a thing. Man that game had development trouble, think it went through 3 different developers at one point.
Rift
Add Battlefront to the shit list, then yeah.
I guess if I had just randomly found the other games, I would say they were mediocre. It was mainly my disappointment in them that caused me to mark them down more.
BORDERLANDS. The concept of the space western/gold rush is neat. Worlds razed of resources, and workers left to die. Massive interstellar corporations. Super science in the face of DEATH at every turn. ALIUM MAGIC! But no. Gearbox. Pansy Bitchford. Captain Cuckold. The original concept tossed into the shitter to steal the artstyle of a more visually unique concept, dudebro bullshit, and SJW pandering. Geometric scaling bullshit for difficulty. Patches only to nerf equipment combinations, never to fix actual bugs.
DEWM. Let's take DooM, pretty the fuck out of it, give the series a proper sequel to Doom 2, and go nuts! Nah, just kidding. Farm it out to the dessicated shell of iD Software and random dudes online, fill it full of stupid shit, and make enemies shit out ammo and health. GLORY KILLS EVERYWHERE! IT'S MANCUBUS, THE CHRISTMAS PINATA! HE'S FLASHING COLORS! HIT HIM WITH THE QUICK TIME BUTTON! It's Orange vs Blue: The Revenge! Everybody loves first person 3D platforming over bottomless pits, right? No? No means yes, baby, so take it off and bend over!
If they had followed the original artistic style and not radically dumbed down the evolution/customization for the kiddies, this could have been the game of the decade.
I rarely if ever see Legendary mentioned on Holla Forums, and when it is it's often called boring
...
since this thread got off the ground i'll explain how things went for me on superpower 2
>naval battles can last no joke FUCKING 1 YEAR USA fleet vs. world = 1 years of naval warfare of continuous fighting
and to end this. look at this picture. when i was making greater israel fucking this popped up.
WHAT.
this was moments before china launching a first attack with 4 nukes to destroy my military and Egypt + 131 other countries declares war on me. USA bitches out on protecting me and is too busy fighting chinese coastal boats. i thought i owned them with AIPAC. i thought i owned EU. how about Russia? big oversight.
If it's performance wasn't shit I would totally continue to play it.
This thread is going to be fucking depressing from concept alone.
Countries get mad about anti-missle defence systems in real life too, the reason for that is that investing in huge defence systems raises plenty of red flags as it shows that you are preparing for war, if it is advanced enough then even nuclear war.
What was so bad about the first game? I never saw anything remotely meme spewing or cucked.
...
It did show the first signs of Burch's faggotry.
Besides that, it just wasn't a very good game. The LOL SO RANDUMB XD guns system doesn't work so well at all and the skill trees were all shit.
...
Duelyst is a great mix of turn-based strategy and cards with devs who make full use of the digital format and minimizing RNG to the point where a good player will defeat a bad player 90% of the time.
The problem is every single fucking time I try to get people to play it they always go:
Remove the fucking bloom and watch the userbase explode god damnit
...
40k babbys are more concerned with the setting than they are with actual gameplay. put a 40k sticker on anything and theyll play it as long as it makes them feel invincible
The mix of art styles is like fingernails on a blackboard.
I can see why people would say that given it's literally 99 cents on steam, but even then i'd rather suse the 99 cents to buy some skin in some other game that's actually good.
And this is coming from a guy who loves janky unpolished games: it's honestly garbage.
ah Vanilla Superpower 2.
Yeah you might want to start playing the mods, they're updated and have fewer bugs, also the AI isn't complete garbage.
to your first point too,
Is total bullshit, I took over the world as Somalia in Vanilla and blew the fuck out of the US and Russia. I did it by using the foreign aid trick, turn into a democracy after Anarchy is over, focus on stability. Once you're back on track spend as much as possible on buying US military vehicles. Then start invading most of Africa. You can get as far as Egypt before people get really pissed off with you and keep spending on Foreign Aid to keep the world at bay until you're ready.
You want to see a real pain in the ass go play as Congo or Palestine. Congo is broken and can't be won, and Palestine is next to impossible because you can't spawn Military units. Both are fixed in Mods.
Burch wasn't credited in the first game.
This is my pick. If it focused on asymmetrical gameplay ala Counter Strike, Swat 4 or even DICE's own Battlefield Vietnam, it actually could've been interesting. Hell, it could've just ditched the cops and robbers theme and just focused on domestic warfare or counter terrorism.
What?
Holy shit… This. So. Much.
I feel so bad for Will… He trusted an amazing idea to a very deadly corporation to video game developers.
To this day I am still unable to get past it.
Researching AMDS =/= Building AMDS
in SP2 its the same thing, AMDS research automatically builds them.
Turning down the bloom doesn't fix it being an ugly mess of mixels and clashing styles. That image right there contains:
Welp the only hope for that seems to be Thrive even through it is still in development and has only 1 life stages so far.

You don't know about the Gaza Wealth Mines? Why do you think everyone is always fighting over there?
Which one?
Dark Crusade
...
Basically every bad Sonic game had a good idea. I mean I love Black Knight's story but it has really shitty gameplay.
...
Mass Effect. I wanted to be a secret space agent, fighting bad guys with my alien buddies and fucking every xeno cumdump I could find. I genuinely enjoyed the world I found myself in, and the mediocre gameplay and writing ruined it
This was the best "flying person" mechanics I've ever played, the transitions between walking, hovering, and flight were seamless and allowed for some cool tricks if you practiced. But it's short as fuck, you only have the full set of abilities for one mission and then the final mission is on rails, the "story" was dumb bullshit, and it didn't have multiplayer which would have been FUCKING RAD with the jetpack mechanics.
They need to make an Iron Man game with the Dark Void mechanics. It would be perfect.
GPS
Geo-Political Simulator games.
Except "allyship" never exist. No country is upset if we are defending them with our AMDS. The only nation that threw a serious bitch fit was Russia.
I actually did play them. It's nice getting all the political support but the debt kept creeping in and I stopped.
not really suppose to happen but okay
I had fun playing as Germany and going Deus Vult in the Middle East. or making Norway Great Again. Wars don't happen enough even with the AI aggressiveness on highest setting and the spy system is fucked. It just doesn't work.
Usury turned out to be good.
That one game where you play as some faggot who doesn't "die" from attacks but instead explodes into pieces from the PS3 era. Can't even remember the name but it was a great idea and in the right hands could've been nice, but it was made by hacks and it's completely terrible and nigh unplayable.
And yet they refuse to put good fun content into it because WAAAH THATS TOO MUCH LIKE EVE and refuse to implement QoL features because the unemployed parasites on the official forums want the game to be a job.
...
Play on harder difficulties.
Doom. Luckily, they came out with a game recently that doesn't suck total donkey dick. Looking up and down? Yes, please.
kill yourself
shit bait
Civ 6.
So bad. So mobile. So amplitude.
Pure rip and tear simulator.
They introduced a really unique concept that personalized enemies and added a political level to the game and did nothing with it. To add salt to the wound, it's the most generic hack 'n slash game I have ever played. Even Assassin's Creed has more depth..
...
Skyrim. Most unbalanced, buggy, obviously untested wet fart of a game with a main quest so underwhelming you'd wonder how the same company made something as good as Morrowind. At least mods can fix it
Well, I wasn't criticizing the first one so much, outside of the artstyle hijacking. BL2 and TPS have damn good play control (moving, sprinting, jumping, crouching, and all that stuff), better than the first game, but everything on TOP of the gameplay is what ruins them.
And to minecrafts defense, older versions are a great survival/spelunking sim with friends. But playing for the creative aspect is just autistic and quite frankly playing as green on ace of spades does a much better job.
0/10; bait harder.
KSP
Star Citizen
Cities Skylines
YOU COULD FUCKING NAME ANY GAME THAT'S MARKETED AS SOMETHING WITH AN AMBITIOUS SCOPE
There’s nothing unrealistic about that. The US Navy is easily that strong.
That doesn't even begin to describe how ludicrous their pipe dreams are.
If by fix it you mean turn it into an incredibly degenerate porn game, sure.
And I mean incredibly degenerate.
Until recently I spent most of my time bounty hunting in nav beacons and RES points. I hadn't realized how fractured and boring a lot of the gameplay stuff was because I was just doing the most fun thing in the game. When I went out to Sothis to make some money to buy a FDL I was pretty shocked at just how unfun so much of the game is.
I've said that to my friends while watching them play it and spam the same 3 moves over and over. At least in Ass Creed 1 you could disarm or throw knives or temporarily use their own weapons against them.
Try getting anywhere in an FDL. Wanna go from Alliance Space to Empire Space to play with a friend? Enjoy watching 50 jump sequences aka loading screens for no reason. Complain about this? Get told the tedium is what balances the FDL's combat ability.
Demon's souls
Dark Souls 1, 2, 3
Bloodborne
>not mounting her under your horse
Pleb.
What else would I mean?
But seriously, the balancing overhaul and combat overhaul mods out there made it actually a decent game. Stealth archery has never tasted sweeter than headshots doing 5x damage. With some of the other mods that let you capture and keep slaves, improve npc combat AI, and add more interesting characters, it becomes a really unique game that you can't really find anything else like.
...
Minecraft.
...
Elite Dangerous
FDev tends to prefer the loud forum minority instead of rational decisions
Sandro needs to go
Go play Binary Domain.
Is there a mod to play the game as a lowly guardsmen with no health?
I want to explore that castle
Exploring some spooky Minecraft castles is what I'll do for Halloween
That's another of the problems. Exploration.
You could have a God-tier game just by adding more mobs and things to interact with.
Levers, buttons good level design and an appealing story can get things going but some bosses or special items/skills would really get things going, at least in terms of dungeon crawling.
its only a model
but the wolf girl can stay
...
Far as I know there are guided tours of Mont Saint Michel so go on right ahead.
KSP is alright, all things considered
could be a lot better, but it's fairly playable
...
Dragon's Dogma
Don't remind me. I bought it after I got a coupon from a friend.
This, flying around was amazing. I would have sold organs to play a Rocketeer game with that kind of flying. The linear shit really sucked though.
...
Any game with turn based combat.
That one hurt.
That's a fuckhuge lie right off the bat when they give everyone the impression that it'll be open world pvp with territory control and tyrannid incursions.
HAHAAHHAHA I bought it too
No no no. Your navy is stuck in naval combat for an entire year. No refueling, rearming, or whatever. It just doesn't make sense and the ships seem to be trading light jabs than anything.
attack submarines are worthless
Let us commiserate.
What game is that OP? Looks fun
It would also work if all the map was a dark zone….if you fuck up, it's restart with a new character….a la zombieU
Agree. The game is good if you cripple yourself to not become OP and level up the enemies
Why they wasted the nemesis system like that?
Tera could've made an ok single player level based action game or multiplayer hunting game with limited items, some of the orignal classes are actually sort of fun to play, and not just in a 'exactly the same monster hunter/dmc but worse' way. Instead it's a shitty cash shop pushing game masquerading as an mmo filled to the brim with BRs and ASSFAGGOT players.
I mean, even monster hunter would suck if you gave lancers aggro, nerfed their ability to dodge and move, made HH players constantly keep everyone at full health with lock on attacks that cast instantly and take little to no effort at all to manage and then make every remaining class stand at the monster's ass and spam x+a db combos and level 3 charges for ten minutes. Tera still wouldn't be great even if you fixed all of that, but it would at least be somewhat enjoyable.
Even tera's character creator isn't that atrocious since it gives enough options to get away from the weird korean look that can't seem to decide if it's WoW or cheap shoujo manga.
I thought I said. It's Superpower 2.
Fallout 4.
Post-apocalypse, urban environment with plenty of verticality in level design, FPS, customizable weapons and armour, building and running settlements, etc.
I would absolutely love to have a game with all these elements done well. Unfortunately, Fallout 4 does them terribly. I feel tempted to download it, mod it as much as possible, and play it while intentionally ignoring the flaws, because the idea of it is something I would want to play. I have to keep reminding myself of just how bad it really is to fight that urge.
The Bureau: XCOM declassified.
Aliens invade the US and you are recruited to lead a special forces unit inserted in to hot spots to fuck ayys up. It would never have really been X-Com but it would have been great if they'd set up the squad controls and management so that it was closer to the original Rainbow Six games (as in with the player able to freely hop between different soldiers who'll all die if they get hit too hard and with a more sandbox approach to level design rather than constantly running down corridors), add in a geoscape mechanic where you can command and support regular army forces fighting the aliens with this potentially changing the events of story missions (attempting to infiltrate an alien fortress alone versus storming it during a massive battle) and added in some actual R&D mechanics rather than just having you pick up ayy guns randomly lying around.
So I guess what I'm saying is not The Bureau at all but that I want some ayy stomping tactical FPS with strategy elements.
This game's soundtrack is so fucking good.
Why'd it have to go to waste?
...
It still hurts, and with how little support the modders got its taken us nearly ten years to get to the point of people being able to add new parts and skins, let alone re-enabling the most basic lost features like colonies rebelling if they are unhappy.
We will never see a game like this done right?
I mean, some things are better left cut out.
Do not forget about shoving denuvo down our thoats and then updating it to be even worse than it already was.
I bought it half off when a friend said it was worth 30-40 dollars. We enjoying it and agreed not bad for that price until it almost bricked my fucking computer with a system memory dump crash.
Uninstalled it and for now only anything and everything with Denuvo is an automatic 0/10
My pick is Fallout 4. Before telling me to kill myself, hear me out.
Instead we get absolute half assed everything that isn't broken. It could have been an absolute awesome experience.
Basically make it how the original pitch was.
Speaking of Spess Mehreen, how optimized is it?
You know what's really funny about this game? It's not even that bad, at least if you like Warhammer FB.
But it sure as fuck isn't a good game, unless you mod it.
First one that came to mind.
...
It is not good game because it contain less than a half of factions and 1/4 of the old world. Plus it costs over 100$ already.
It is too soon to say if this game is good because it is still unfinished.
But yeah having totalwar game set in Warhammer Fantasy is actually 10/10 idea.
I'd argue that Shogun 2 is good without mods, but that's mostly because of FotS as far as I'm concerned.
True, and once it is finished the modders won't have to constantly redo their files to keep them running.
Besides that however the are the problems such as how bafflingly terrible the sieges are, the battle speeds being set to that of illegal immigrants, the truly hit or miss magic, and then there is the fact that more or less any unit that isn't cavalry, a monster, or uses a form of explosive just aren't all that satisfying to use, removing matched combat was a mistake.
It amazes me how nobody tried to cash in with this idea after this release
We ALL bought into it. This was before Kickstarter/Early Access was discovered to be virtually entirely scams.
I particularly hate how they tossed all of the interesting lore away for the grand 1.0. How the fuck do you make a bad game even worse on your grand release
I'll just let you know that mods back then were awesome. There was a mutagen mod that gave you perks and weaknesses depending on your gameplay (night vision, sun weakness, cold resistance, run faster…)
There were also several metal slug boss mods and a god-tier DBZ mod where you started punching shit and ended up going super saiyan or turning into a giant monkey. We HAD the fun. And they shat on modders and updated into cut content: the game. It was a butcher's work worthy of EA's Spore.
gta 5
Yeah but this one has a bunch of random shit that could make it a good game that encompasses a wide variety of genres but cockstar didn't even try
i quit playing superpower 2 the moment I realized you have to click around hundreds of times to select a single area in the game because the map is fucked
Recore isn't really trash…
the way to play with that is to hold tab to see the "real" land mass as the region icon will pop up.
who the fuck likes that game? it's normalfag console garbage (being dumbed the way the fuck down). and i thought skyrim was dumb as fuck downed, but they somehow outdid themselves.
What do you get when you throw Majora's Mask, Final Fantasy, Ultima 7 and Guitar Hero into a Blender? Unfinished, border-line broken garbage, apparently (soundtrack is pretty good though).
