Replaying this for the first time since I was around 10
This game improved on 64 in almost every single aspect, why do so many people regard it as 'bad'? Couldn't beat it as kids? I certainly remember struggling a lot.

We had this thread like 2 days ago user.
i don't visit here much, been playing oldschool runescape for the past week or so straight
A thread where I have to argue against galaxy cucks who have nothing to say about their snoozefest except "muh beautiful orchestral OST!"
I'll pass.
I loved both Galaxy games but after replaying both 64 and sunshine that level design was really lackluster in comparison
Mostly because of two things: "muh fludd" and a small lack in polish. Some people didn't quite like Fludd, so they bitch about how he was in it even though I honestly feel he helped make the game fun even if the best parts were when he wasn't with you and a more legitimate complaint was that it was kinda buggier than most Mario games and felt almost a little rushed to get a Mario game on the Gamecube. Its far from the worst, hell, I'd say its a damn fine game. It just wasn't up to snuff to what people were expecting at the time and its kinda been tainted in people's eyes since I suppose.
I mean, I enjoyed Galaxy 1 and kinda liked Galaxy 2, but I know what ya mean. Its fun while it lasts, but when you take a step back and really look at it, its really lacking in memorable substance.
mario platformers are overrated trash
64 is better than Sunshine
Is there anything better than 64?
i agree but both games are enjoyable in their own separate regards
Because it didnt have half an a press xdd so funny amirite "henry" haha!
It has a gayer vibe than 64.
Seriously, like it has absolutely no grit at all.
It's sunshine and rainbows the entire fucking time. I probably got about halfway through the game back when it came out. I was in highschool and honestly it was not edgy enough for me.
Don't call me an edgelord, YOU KNOW I'M RIGHT. This was the first game in the downfall of mario into a completely childish game for babies. 64 wasn't "edgy" like Donte, but it was at least not a complete baby game like all mario games are today. Nintendo honestly was like "bowser made one baby cry in testing so we're making all mario games a complete joke from now on."
This is incredibly consistent among all Nintendo franchises for at least a decade now.
People wanted Super Mario 64: 2
They got "Mario sprays water everywhere and use mechanical gadgets" instead.
The physics, controls and camera are fucking busted and the graphics and level design get really samey. It's not a bad game by any means but it's got serious problems.
...
skip to 3:55 of vid related to see a video demonstration of how shit the OPs opinions are
I never played it, but the thought of having to use the C-Stick for precise platforming gives me a fucking ulcer. Whoever designed that part of the controller should be shot.
...
Playing it for the first time as a kid, it was honestly one of my favorite games.
Replaying it today as an adult, its not as good as I remember it. The definitive 3D Mario Game Besides 64 is Galaxy 2
It's a tropical paradise, son, there isn't a whole lot of "grit" to put there. It's got the ghost house, it's got the burning village and the volcano, what more do you think they should add?
The c-stick doesn't do movement though.
Let's talk facts:
1-OP is a fag
2-Sunshine is good in most aspects but it has shit level design
3-Galaxy would be better if completely devoid of motion controls
End of thread.
It is if you emulate it, it even has superior graphics too
Don't you shoot the water with C-Stick? If I'm wrong then sorry.
...
If I remember correctly, you use the r button to shoot water and aim with the left joystick
Nah, you spray water by either partially pulling the right trigger to spray directly forward, or pulling it all the way to plant your feet. You aim with the left stick, the left trigger puts you into an "ADS" like state.

64 didn't exactly have much of a reward for completion either. Yoshi doesn't do shit.
No that I agree or disagree, but thats the most story we ever got out of a Mario game, it still up there
better than this
when i was a little baby this game ended my need to 100% video games. it was that bad.
The horror
...
lol
Because the same people that claim to want change actually hate when anyone does anything new, so they hate the water mechanics (even though they are fun).
Sunshine is the best 3D Mario, maybe the best Mario. The GameCube is the best or second best of all Nintendo consoles.
People with shit taste have to stop. Casuals and posers have to go. The people that hate on Sunshine and praise 64 so much have probably never played video games extensively at all.
Mama mia
there's two types of players, those who value substance over presentation, and those who rather value presentation over substance
presentationfags get upset at SMS because
#1 Voice Acting was not good, a common thing during these times and even before. Wasn't expected from nintendo, though it's not really a big deal. It's secondary. Then again presentationfags care more about it and overexaggerate as if it was VERY important.
Now, some real arguments are as follows:
#2 No combat outside of FLUDD. Solid argument considering kicking and punching was fun. Then again SM64's bosses mostly use the grab mechanic or the ground pound to deal damage. They should've also utilized Ground pround and grab more in SMS.
#3 No end-game world hub. No climatic finale. TBH this is the only argument that bothers me personally. I think one more world, with bowser jr as shadow mario for most stars to tie the knots would've been good.
Shit tastes confirmed. Both the OST and the world hubs were really good for sunshine. no shit its tropical. It's on Isle Delfino
The problem was that there should've been more levels
Missions weren't as good and some were bad (Hotel mission with the boo in the vents, or pachinko for example), levels felt a bit samey and could have used more of them (just like 64), and blue coins were retarded.
My biggest issue aside from the lack of platforming is the vertical in every single level meant missing a jump would send you to the beginning and it would often be faster to restart and lose a life.
Game was going to be Day/Night and Mario and Luigi each having a gadget. Kinda like Unleashed.
I used to have a PS1 with no memory card so I had to play games dozens of times to get good enough at them to 100%. I got intimatly familiar with the mechanics, every bug, every quirk, and every polygon in the games.
I still remember every detail in those games, can never forget learning how to give Gramps the water bucket in Tomba 2 after God know how many months and finally getting to Coal Miner's Town (level 2) for the first time.
Now I play games and 100% them and it feels like I cheated or didn't actually beat them.
Fuck off, TJ ((Henry)) Yoshi
It's fucking hard compared to most Mario games, and the F.L.U.D.D. was controversial
super Mario 65
They removed some moves in favor of the FLUDD, movement didn't feel as quick and tight (especially wall jumping), fewer stages, two fucking red coin sprites in some stages, hard requirement for specific sprites to beat the game, that one secret stage with the lily pad boat, and the blue coins. Fuck the blue coins. It's not bad, in fact I love it, but it's not better than 64.
To answer your question yes.
Arin, your autism is showing.
How is the hover nozzle not a casual tool? It's an easy jump extender and mid-air direction changer. If you make a bad jump, you can easily turn on the hover and save yourself. There's a reason why the sections where FLUDD is taken away are widely considered the best parts of the game.
This is cringey as fuck, who the hell finds this shit covered garbage funny?
Game Jews has been shit ever since the fat armenian left
I agree, and I barely even like Jontron.
He was the autismal ADHD hellchild that gave the show life.
He also enjoyed video games that required more than two buttons, unlike Arin.
The Galaxy games were far too restricted when it came to exploring the levels, while with 64 and Sunshine you could go pretty much wherever you wanted in a level except for specific stars/shines.
Also, they were far easier than 64 and Sunshine.
I don't know how anybody can regard them as superior outside of muh grafix and the soundtracks.
I agree
Sunshine > G2 > M64 > G1.
he also didn't take Arin's shit, and argued as friends, which showed what two friends should act like.
Instead Arin alienated Jon and fucked off with his weed buddies. I don't care much about E-celeb bullshit, but it hit me hard, seeing those two drift away. I sympathize with it and I hate it.
There was a perfect bro relationship and Arin not only picked hoes over bros, but also made replacement friends almost immediately, as if he didn't ever care.
I actually lost a friend to weed once. We used to hang out, then he started smoking with some den crowd, got arrested and I never saw him again.
It's fucking depressing, man.
I kind of liked that one.
But I also like The Water Temple in Ocarina of Time and the Xen stages in Half-Life as well, so I might just have bad taste in levels.
What the hell did I just walk into?
That is debatable, but I can see how some might say this. Haven't played the newer ones though.
Shit son you just went full retard
I would say second best, but this is hardly saying anything because the gamecube was before the Wii and look at how that all turned out.
Son I know people praise 64 waaay too much, but this is just bait at this point.
No story is better than cringe story
Whew.
Almost every 3D Mario is better than Sunshine, especially 3D World since it has a much better level design.
As a kid I was unable to beat the slime boss that keeps growing and covers the entire arena, so I dropped the game and sadly never continued it, even though the boss probably wouldn't have been hard if I kept trying.
But I always considered it a good game, definitely better than 64.
Except #2 comes at the expense of #1, that is, the FLUDD-less stages. Nothing else considered difficult (e.g. boat pushing) could be called 'platforming' in any sense of the word.
Takes longer to get to levels. Boring. I sure enjoy riding a boat with Yoshi for 20 minutes each time I die.
Still being open world/3D
But is it? 64 had true non-linearity in that most stars COULD be gotten out of order, even stars that involved bosses or otherwise secret things. Meanwhile the FLUDDless levels were blocked off unless you chose the required shine, and then the game explicitly told you where it was. 64 was a bit more cryptic in that you had very little to go on as far as finding stars, so you were actually required to explore the level on a first playthrough.
Story is a negative, but immersion I'd argue. For the most part you feel like a tourist throughout Sunshine, even going to a theme park, casino, and hotel. The story even hammers it in as you land on the island in a cutscene, rather than just hopping in from a pipe in 64. Dialogue in games like these also breaks immersion a great deal. >I'M A CHUCKSTER!
Beat Bowser the first time I played it. Never 120'd it because of blue coins. Did a fresh playthrough years later, got more shines and gave up for the same reason. I didn't find it all that bad either time, but just weaker than the other 3D Marios.
but mr bond muh linearity
