For years, I found that I could relatively reliably detect if a man was gay by looking at his eyes. There was a somewhat distinctive shape around the eyebrow arch (and the wrinkles around the eyes) that gave them away. It felt weird, though, that when I tried to apply this ability to detect lesbians, I simply couldn't see the difference.
However, recently some researchers trained a deep learning engine to detect gays, and suddenly everything clicked.
There is a joke that Asian people all look the same to westerners, and vice versa. The reason behind this confusion, is that each race looks at different face clues to differentiate between the individuals, and those face clues are different between races.
So that was it. I couldn't detect lesbians because I was looking for the wrong face clue. Gays indeed have a distinct eyebrow pattern, the face clue I found, but lesbians do not have it. Instead, they have a characteristic smile, which some people call the 'fishmouth'.
A few weeks ago, while surfing a site like Reddit, some person mentioned (regarding a member of the clergy), that he had the distinctive smile of a pedophile. I paid attention to the face features in the photo, and it really seem to have something special about it, but gave it no further importance.
Today, I was browshing 4chan when a person said he hated pedophiles, and suspected about some people, hoping to question them someday. I started to write a reply about this distinctive smile I heard about when suddenly all the pieces perfectly rearranged on my brain.
It may be perfectly possible to create a "pedo detector" using deep learning!!
Of course, this machine would be as controversial as the gay detector machine, and it cannot guarantee that a person is indeed a pedo. However, it might point researchers towards suspects, specially regarding pizzagate.
I attach photos of some known pedophiles with this smile. I also attach photos of some people that I don't initially see as pedos, but whose smiles really, really give me this distinctive vibe. I also went after an entire gallery of photos of Michael Jackson, he smiles a lot, but he never smiled like them (maybe there is another face clue, he is an exception, or maybe he wasn't a pedo afterall).
Creating this tool would require a database of photos of known pedophiles, and someone that knows how to use TensorFlow or other Deep Learning Engine. Do you think there is any kind of merit on this approach?
